Speaking from the liberated zone of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, Jewish protestors share some of the reasons why they are showing up for Palestine and joining the fight for divestment. ⬇️⬇️
Every single student in the Gaza Solidarity Encampment has been arrested at Minouche Shafik’s direct request. Shame on
@Columbia
. Solidarity to all our protesters and the people of Palestine. 🇵🇸
This was an illegal attack on peaceful protestors. If one of the goals, as
@Columbia
has claimed many times, of the excessive security presence at our protests is to protect protestors, then how did they fail so badly to even NOTICE this attack, let alone stop it?
Two Columbia University students, both IOF soldiers, sprayed a chemical weapon on peaceful protesters. Skunk spray is used on Palestinians in the West Bank by the Israeli occupation. It is known to cause nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
@Columbia
must take action.
TO HONOR OUR ANCESTORS:
“I am here honoring the long tradition of anti-Zionist Jews and protecting the form of Judaism that I have known my whole life, which is antithetical to the cruelty and inhumanity of Zionism...
TO UPHOLD OUR TRADITIONS:
“I’m here continuing the Jewish tradition of standing against oppression and injustice, especially as we approach Passover, a holiday that celebrates our own liberation and commits us to fighting for everyone else’s.”
TO DISMANTLE ZIONISM:
“It’s really important for Jews to be present here to make it explicitly clear that this has nothing to do with antisemitism. I want to take my Jewish identity back from Zionists who have twisted its meaning...
TO REFUSE COMPLICITY:
“The Zionist project bills itself as being about the safety of all Jews and claims to stand for all Jews, making us complicit in their violence. It is so important for Jewish people to loudly show up for Gaza and Palestine...
...To dismantle the false equivalency between Zionism and Judaism, to fight as hard as I can to fight this genocide and stand in solidarity with Palestinians and oppressed peoples worldwide.”
Maintaining safety on our campuses is our No. 1 concern. That’s why
@ColumbiaSJP
had to create their own Google form to document anti-Palestinian racism that students face! Read through our FAQ for more insight into our lovely
@Columbia
University. (1/2)
TO SHOW OUR SOLIDARITY:
“I’m showing up today as a proud anti-zionist Jew. Columbia and Barnard love to speak on behalf of Jewish students, but actions speak louder than words. Jews on our campus and across America stand with Palestine.”
For too long Columbia Professor Shai Davidai has weaponized antisemitism in his racist crusade against our Palestinian peers without consequences. It is time to
#FireShai
FACT CHECK:
The anti-genocide and anti-apartheid protests at Columbia were primarily led by Students for Justice in Palestine AND Jewish Voice for Peace, actually. But we guess it’s a little harder to say “follow the money” about a Jewish group 🤷
To compare the keffiyeh to a swastika is not only blatant anti-Palestinian racism, but a disgusting minimization of Nazi antisemitism that proves the ADL is counterproductive to actually combatting antisemitism and serves only to perpetuate racism.
#DroptheADL
The ADL president is comparing a keffiyeh, a garment illustrating the cultural heritage of the Palestinian people, to a swastika.
Bigoted, disgusting behavior towards Palestinian students, many of whom have lost family in Gaza.
It’s time to
#DroptheADL
This ludicrous interpretation of “incitement of violence” by Columbia VP Gerald Rosberg is further evidence that for Columbia, Zionist perception of student speech will always take precedent over the lives and safety of Palestinians in Gaza and (pro-)Palestinian students
This Hanukkah, Columbia/Barnard JVP did a Hanukkah of solidarity with public lightings in central locations on campus every night. Check out our recap below ⬇️ (1/2)
Gaza Calls. Columbia Falls. Hind’s Hall and the Gaza Solidarity Encampment have been brutally dismantled by the NYPD, but our spirits will not be broken and their memories live on.
BREAKING: The House Committee on Education and the Workforce informed Columbia and Barnard administrators and trustees on Monday of an investigation into “Columbia University’s response to antisemitism and its failure to protect Jewish students.”
“I have never targeted students, only well-funded, pro-terror student organizations” as he openly calls for expulsion, a punishment that can only be inflicted on individual students
Columbia College Student Council announced in a Wednesday Instagram post that Glass House Rocks—an annual event featuring dance, a cappella, and improv comedy performances—will “suspend normal operation” on Thursday.
still gathering evidence, does anyone have info about these individuals? I know the campus z*onists & I’ve never seen them before.
They didn’t want to be photographed but kept confronting ppl. were wearing fake keffiyehs but took them off. Smell came from behind guy in orange.
Incredible words. There are far too few institutional leaders not only refusing to weaponize antisemitism, but explicitly condemning this weaponization.
My father and former Harvard Hillel director, Bernie Steinberg, just wrote an op-ed on "the cynical weaponization of antisemitism by powerful forces who seek to intimidate and ultimately silence legitimate criticism of Israel"
JVP stands in unwavering solidarity with Muslim students at Barnard. For all Columbia/Barnard affiliates, please sign the letter condemning this blatant Islamophobia at
In a letter by
@transportworker
the Transport Workers Union Local 264 and TWU International to Barnard President Laura Rosenbury is the stunning revelation that a Barnard CARES supervisor suggested removing hijabs of students at security checkpoint.
Columbia Jewish Voice for Peace is outraged to see the same tactics used to suspend us leveraged against a professor at another university. Just like
@Columbia
did to us and
@ColumbiaSJP
,
@IUBloomington
leaders are hiding behind the excuse of minor bureaucratic infractions (1/2)
Indiana University administration temporarily suspended tenured IU political science professor Abdulkader Sinno following IU's denial of a room reservation for an event hosted by the Palestine Solidarity Committee while Sinno was the group's advisor.
As our injured and arrested comrades continue to be released from 1 Police Plaza, it is important to remember the WHY. WHY were they arrested? What were they fighting for?
The literal day after claiming he doesn’t target individual students, he’s promoting this email template that calls out an undergraduate student by name (with disinformation, mixing up two different undergrads) to encourage people to write to the university about her en masse
Hey,
@ShaiDavidai
. One of our members actually wrote the first draft of this petition, and we fully endorse every word of it. We will not stand
by as you harass and bully our peers in the name of Jewish safety.
Columbia University administration has endangered students to placate Shai Davidai; a business school professor who encourages the suspension and expulsion of Pro Palestine students. Share this with everyone & sign today!!
#FireShai
Shai Davidai evidently knows this template is wrong and cruel — otherwise his extremely selective screenshots of a much longer email wouldn’t exclude any mention of the individual the full email defames.
We and
@ColumbiaSJP
are frankly quite frustrated and angry that at a time when we should be dedicating all our efforts to fighting for Palestinians, we have to spend our energy on dealing with targeted harassment from a professor at our university.
ACSRI’s biased decision will not end our fight for divestment. Referenda have already been put on the ballot for two of our undergraduate colleges; it is becoming harder and harder for Columbia to deny that the student body demands divestment.
“The longstanding human rights violations of Israeli occupation must figure into its decision-making about Columbia’s financial future,” Columbia University Apartheid Divest writes of ACSRI’s evaluation of its proposal for divestment from Israel.
to unilaterally punish pro-Palestine advocates in violation of their own policy. We refuse to let our illegitimate suspension become a precedent for other universities. Shame on IU and shame on Columbia. (2/2)
