A year ago this week, I started Union Soccer Blog not knowing what my future covering the Philadelphia Union would be.
I'm happy to announce it will be back for another season!

coverage year round.
The Philadelphia Union have changed their badge on social media to Buffalo Bills colors and added Damar Hamlin’s No. 3.
Union president Tim McDermott is the brother of Bills head coach Sean McDermott.
Jim Curtin on releasing his players for the U20 World Cup.
"We’re not Spain, we’re not Germany, we’re not Argentina. We haven’t won a World Cup ever. Let’s try to win every competition at the youth level and show we have great players because we do."
If you thought that was fun, just wait until the Union & Red Bulls bludgeon each other over 90 minutes to a scoreless draw tomorrow night in a torrential downpour.
Curtin: "There's no better advertisement for the Philadelphia Union than at 3 p.m. today when Brenden Aaronson goes up against the best team in the world."
Only time I'll do this.
Now's the time to get into the Philadelphia Union.
Won trophy in 2020, Conf. Final in 2021, No. 1 in East now.
Jim Curtin is super likeable, Andre Blake is a star, Jose Martinez is the toughest SOB in Philly sports.
Tomorrow 7:30 pm vs. Red Bulls.
Here’s a hot take to counter this hot take.
It’s a better sign for “the growth of the game” that the Union sold out an important game in less than 24 hours even though it’s on a Sunday during the Eagles season.
The Union's form since returning from MLS is Back:
DWWLWWWDW
That's 20 of 27 possible points.
This team is really, really good.
Easily the best Philadelphia Union we've ever seen.
Jim Curtin:
“What does clear and obvious even mean? What’s clear and obvious to me might not be to the next human. Millions of people watch Two and a Half Men and I think it’s the dumbest show ever. It’s clear and obvious to me that it’s terrible.”
No official MLS playoff schedule yet.
The Union were told last night that Wednesday, November 1 was their most likely start date.
Just heard from a team source that MLS may start series on Saturday instead.
“It is insane.” said the source about finalizing the schedule.
Jakob Glesnes recently posted this on his IG story.
Ale Bedoya and Kai Wagner have already shared it.
It’s clear there’s some unhappiness with the front office.
Sources: The Philadelphia Union has informed club legend Alejandro Bedoya he's not in the club's plans & is set to depart this winter when his contract ends
Kai Wagner also set to depart. Has offer from AEK Athens but could stay in MLS

BREAKING NEWS:
The Philadelphia Union have permanently acquired Julian Carranza from Inter Miami.
The Union sent $500,000 in GAM to Miami. Miami also gets a percentage of a future transfer fee.
Carranza is now eligible for selection for tonight's match against Inter Miami.
The Union in 2022 (so far):
No. 1 seed in Eastern Conference
Coach of the Year Jim Curtin
Defender of the Year Jakob Glesnes
Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake
Most Goals Scored
Fewest Goals Conceded
Best Goal Differential in MLS
Haven't Lost at Subaru Park.
Just wanted to pop in and say this before the year ends because it's the first time I could mention this:
The Philadelphia Union were the only area team to win a trophy in 2020.
FT: Union 3, New England 0.
The Union have taken 13 out of a possible 15 points in their last five MLS regular-season games.
They have outscored opponents 10-3 in that span and have three shutouts in the last four.
They're back.
I'm only the messenger here.
Jim Curtin reached out to me this morning and wanted to clarify the Union are 8-0-3 in their last 11 games (home & away) vs. Red Bulls.
"It actually makes it worse for them cause they can't beat us in their building either."
What a crock of shit from MLS.
We can’t play in Open Cup because of the schedule but here’s Leagues Cup please like it. Like pretty please like it to justify us taking the bag and running away from the Open Cup.
The Union got goals against LAFC from:
A Brazilian striker signed from the Chilean first division.
A Norwegian center back.
A 19-year-old Homegrown
Ernst Tanner has found some gems.
What a turnaround from Week 1.

Really cool moment here with Alejandro Bedoya telling Jim Curtin he won Coach of the Year.
"He's Philly Philly through and through. On behalf of everybody here, let's congratulate Jim on Coach of the Year."
Video: Philadelphia Union
FT: Union 5, Orlando 1.
The Union's last seven home results:
7-0
2-1
6-0
4-1
6-0
4-1
5-1
The Union have outscored opponents 34-4 in July, August and September inside Subaru Park.
They have won eight straight games at home.
Mikael Uhre, Julian Carranza & Daniel Gazdag have combined for 43 goals.
They have more goals as a trio than the following teams:
Atlanta
New England
Columbus
Orlando
Miami
Charlotte
DC
Chicago
San Jose
RSL
Seattle
Colorado
Houston
Vancouver
Sporting KC
Andre Blake’s save right after the first NYCFC goal is the most important point of this game.
Blake saved it, turned away a potential 2-0 lead and the Union woke up right after that.
Here's a milestone that flew under the radar last night:
Andre Blake recorded his 60th career clean sheet for the Union.
It was his 10th shutout of the season.
This is the first time Blake has had back-to-back seasons with double-digit clean sheets.

If it's not clear to everyone already Quinn Sullivan's all-around game has gone up a level and he's going to be a huge difference-maker for the Union in 2024.
FT: Union 7, D.C. United 0.
-Most goals in a single game in Union history.
-Julian Carranza's first hat-trick.
-Ale Bedoya joins 20/20 club.
-Three players with multiple goals.
-Tied for the league lead in GD (+16).
-Back in first place in East.
-That was awesome.
Jim Curtin delivered a "stay humble" message during his post-game press conference to the Revs.
And he also took a shot at the Red Bulls in the process.
The Philadelphia Union will HOST New York City FC on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Eastern Conference Final.
We will have the game on

Our coverage will begin at 2 p.m.

owners wouldn't make the effort to go on the road in the CCL, and if we're being honest there are probably a few who don't even know what the CCL is.
Kudos to Arthur Blank for making the effort to get to

's game in Costa Rica.
This still feels crazy to say because this team was a laughing stock for a while:
The Philadelphia Union have the most functional and competent front office/ownership of the Philly area pro teams and it’s not really close right now.
One of my favorite new things in college football is yelling MEEP MEEP as loud as I can about 5-10 times per weekend.
UTSA has become my favorite Group of Five team.
Clear missed call from the refs.
The ball went off Mikael Uhre here, the Union were awarded a throw and then earned the corner that led to the equalizer.
I never thought I’d see the day the Union were in MLS Cup.
My first event on the beat was when they picked a Goalkeeper first overall when they already had a goalkeeper.
Little did I know then that goalkeeper would be all-world and be one of the main reasons to get to MLS Cup
I gotta be honest.
I’ve seen a lot of dumb shit happen in PPL/Talen/Subaru.
An athletic trainer becoming a cult hero, multiple VAR reviews and the Cory Burke hip goal is close to the top of crazy shit in one regular season game.
Playoffs/Cup games are their own category.
Jamiro Monteiro talked with reporters at training this morning.
He was asked about FC Metz
His response:
“Which club? Metz? I don’t know Metz. I only know Philly now. I don’t want to talk about Metz."
"Before I'm a soccer player, before I'm an athlete, I'm a human being first. This stuff affects me." -- Alejandro Bedoya.
