1 month down of residency and one of the takeaways has been to give myself more grace. i've been journaling each night, writing 3 things about the day, and am going to make an effort to take note of at least ONE thing i did well each day. mistakes are made, but so is progress.
when you and
@EmilyLDavidson
both have your first interviews on the same day (aka today), do test zooms the morning of to check sound and lighting, and text to check in throughout the day
uro gal pals 4ever 🌟🌟🌟

#urology
! will be interesting to see how this year's cycle plays out!
when a tweet generates attention so you gain a lot of new followers 😅
to introduce myself: joanna, M4, current urology applicant!!
i love baking, being outside, and ice cream (which are most of the things i tweet about)
the first week off after my sub-i wasn’t as “off” as i needed it to be...so i took the 3 day weekend to rest, relax, and recharge by doing things that make my heart happy. while we are generally measured by our productivity, rest and breaks are equally important!
my heart is so full today - from

While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last—because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.

Time to check in on our biases: did it make you uncomfortable to read the word clitoris? If so, why?
The clitoris is the female homologue of the male penis, (arguably), the urologists’ favorite genital. So why are we more comfortable talking about them, but not clitorises?
residency is sending out an email to your friends and family with your call schedule for the next few months so they stop asking you every weekend if you're working or not
me: ah yes, let's read the threads about tips/advice for intern year, gathering facts will help me feel better about the incoming start
narrator: it did not, in fact, make her feel any better
sub-i chronicles, week 6:
- trusted to drive the robot to the OR table
- at least one (1) fanny pack compliment daily
- scrubbing into open cases
- learning to be okay with NOT working out 5/5 days bc it’s been a hard week
hard to believe there’s only 2 weeks left!!
sub-i, week 5:
- new site w/ diff attendings and residents
- adding 2 m3s to the team and getting to show them the ropes (and convince them that uro is the best)
- “tension-free is the key”: a good motto for anastomoses and for life
-
@tamirsholk
reminding me to make this recap
sometimes i think my only role as an intern is to learn...but then i end up teaching the senior residents about the cinematic masterpiece that is high school musical
find yourself coresidents/best pals who bring a 2x4 and crow bar to try to get you into your garage (
@chschlaepfer
) and then when you’re still locked out, subsequently let you sleep in their house while they’re on call (
@IBergelson
)
week 4 (last week at gtown hospital 😢):
- attendings who encouraged me to take ownership of the clinic visit
- exercising 5/5 days post-hospital (ty
@MeghanDavisMD
and
@allie_tabakin
for inspo/advice)
- sharing (bribing?) my team w/ baked goods
4 more weeks to go
@tamirsholk
!!
the moment you’ve all been waiting for... sub-i week 8 moments! 🌟
- laughs and snacks in the resident room
- ending a clinic day w/ a slam dunk dx
- rekindling my diet coke addiction
- FPMRS clinic and OR days 🥰
- realizing how much i’ve learned (and how much is left to go!!)

🔑 points:
🌟the clitoris is anatomically homologous to the penis
🌟clitoral adhesions may affect up to 1/3 of women in a clinical setting
🌟examine the vulva, vagina, and clitoris for 💁🏻♀️ w/ sx of sexual dysfxn
🌟⬆️ research needed on prevalence & tx satisfaction 🔜 👩🏻⚕️
Congratulations to our matches! We are very excited to introduce and welcome Elise Foley, Adam Kemp, and Ben Plambeck to the University of Iowa Urology Residency Program!
i am EXHAUSTED today and i don't know why...thinking about taking the day to myself and watching netflix/relaxing and hitting work that needs to get done tomorrow and over the weekend.
BREAKING--Costco, the nation's second-largest retailer, announces that it's adopting a $16 minimum wage for its 180,000 workers next week.
That tops Amazon's and Target's $15 minimum and Walmart's paltry $11 minimum
work that i was initially planning on doing wasn't happening today...so i adapted: decided to start sorting and packing things up in anticipation for my upcoming move! sometimes i have to remind myself productivity can come in many different forms.
starting to slowly pack my stuff and feeling v attached to all of my notebooks/folders/binders from the preclinical years...don't think i can make myself throw it away yet!!!
Yooooo anyone applying for
#AUAMatch2022
my DMs are open if y’all have questions or need advice about anything.
I remember last year getting advice from as many people as I could and want to pay it forward. Don’t feel like you have to know it all.

FINALLY managed to hold my crow pose for a few seconds tonight!!
in this time in my life where everything feels tumultous and uncertain, it’s nice to find a bit of stability (literally and figuratively) in my yoga practice 🧘🏻♀️
completing another goal of mine this week: networking! i'm a rising 4th year applying this cycle and i have some extra time on my hands - if any
