ASL on a poster for a Marvel project - sometimes it’s hard to measure progress, but this is truly something I didn’t think I’d see happen in my lifetime.
[singing foreign language] is not accessible, which is the whole point of captions. captioners should be inputting the actual words being spoken, whatever language they are in.
#Oscars
Happy
#Pride
month - this is the ASL sign for pride, and the shirt was designed by a deaf artist, Randall Pituk. Get your shirt at to support deaf artists!
I’ll forever remember 2020 as the year I didn’t know I needed. I baked, shaved my head, bleached my hair, shaved my head again, voted, adopted a puppy, celebrated one year of sobriety and kept on swimming, swimming, swimming.
I binged
#DeafU
last night & want to share my thoughts. First, it’s important to say these kids who shared their stories are pretty damn brave. I know I couldn’t have done that when I was in their shoes at Gallaudet!
@GHMansfield
I once read somewhere. “Disabled folk don’t have “special needs” we have the same needs as everyone else. Just different ways of getting those needs met.”
It’s been a dream come true to play in the MCU’s sandbox with a group of great, talented writers. Tune into Hawkeye when it premieres this month to meet Maya Lopez before she gets a show of her very own!
FIRE ISLAND is hilarious - it also melted my lil gay heart. The whole cast was extraordinary. Bravo to
@ihatejoelkim
and director extraordinaire
@AndrewAhnFilms
Happy pub day to Tru Biz by
@NovicSara
- a book set at a deaf residential school with stories set in motion by passionate teenagers and the adults who become their wards. IMO, it’s the first great novel about our community *and* it’s written by a Deaf author - yay!
I was excited to watch this video about our new First Lady, but as with all their videos
@nowthisnews
stops providing captions after the first minute, making the video inaccessible. Pretty sure Dr. Biden and her husband’s administration would not approve.
Really enjoyed this interview, thank you
@huffpostqueer
and
@CurtisMWong
for allowing me to discuss how I got to create the kind of show I wanted to watch as a gay, deaf man.
This was for a nominated song, so the lyrics are already published, the captioning outfit responsible could have easily secured them ahead of time. Really disappointing.

Slowly catching up on
#ACSVersace
& while Darren Criss continues to be amazing/creepy AF, I am astounded by Jeff Trail and David Madson. Finn Wittrock and Cody Fern are heartbreaking. Didn’t expect the show to be an elegiac about the lives of gay men in the 90s. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is such a problematic/ableist headline & article. I'm glad the girl helped the man but this implies he leads a lonely & sad life when not faced with the difficulties of traveling.
“It seems like such a lonely life to be deaf and blind — to not be able to see and hear,” said Clara, 15, who helped a deaf and blind passenger by signing into his hands on a flight
PSA: I love that so many shows/networks/companies are gathering their actors and behind the scenes talent to create fun/educational content for people in this scary time, but please remember to provide captions for deaf people. We feel so forgotten when you don’t.
My friends
@mezmalz
&
@TheJohnMcGinty
have inspired me. A lot of deaf kids are isolated at home right now without linguistic access. Please tell me what storybook you’d like me to sign and I’ll do it. Then I’ll tag some of my friends to do the next one. Let’s do this.
That special Jules episode of
#EuphoriaHBO
was revelatory! Filled in a lot of blanks about what happened to Jules throughout s1, adding a lot to her character. Can’t wait for s2. Bravo to Hunter Schafer who also co-wrote... HERO.

Not used to all this serotonin still flooding my brain, but wow - from the pledge of allegiance signed with ASL to Amanda Gorman’s beautiful poem, lots of great things about that ceremony. Now the great work begins.
About last night - I hope you’ll binge all 5 episodes of ECHO when it drops tonight. It was a honor and a privilege to work with such a great group of people to bring this story to life!!
Excited to share my story about two deaf men, newly dating, who take a camping trip that forever alters the course of their relationship. Many thanks to
@MISTERBULLBULL
for publishing it!
Writing contests were very important to me growing up, not only did they give me hope, they challenged me. excited to be starting one with
@shoshannah7
and
@eastersealshq
. Please encourage any deaf/hard of hearing writers you know between the ages of 18-25 to submit!

What stays with me is how these kids were brave enough to share their stories and it made me wistful for a time in my life that, like the show, was perfectly imperfect.
Normally I don’t like it when interpreters allow their own emotions to show while working, but this eye roll was very much appreciated. I don’t blame her. This schmuck.
No single piece of art, in whatever medium, will ever manage to encapsulate the deaf experience. That’s why there are 5,000 different reality shows out there, for example. Different strokes for different people.
Best part of the golden globes last night. For me, it’s always been the norm. My mom took me to foreign movies regularly from a young age bc we didn’t have to worry about whether there would be captions or not - thankful for that. PS give this movie ALL the awards

I talked to
@Mr_NaveenKumar
about how representation matters more if the character is written by someone from within the same community. Oh and we also talked about unicorn syndrome 🦄
#ThisClose
Like any other piece of art, we bring to it our own experiences, our own expectations. Our frustrations & our hopes, our dreams. Some of you were disappointed, some of you liked it. At the end of the day, our deaf community is so big, with a multitude of stories within.
Props to
@hulu
for captioning ALL the spoken dialogue in
#PreyHulu
- English, French, and Comanche. Loved seeing every word, even in languages I didn’t know. That’s accessibility.
As a dual union member, it’d make me so happy to be on strike for BOTH guilds. Actors deserve a hard line to be taken in these negotiations. This is a boiling point in our industry on all fronts.
EXCLUSIVE: In a letter obtained by Rolling Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Quinta Brunson, and 300+ actors have threatened SAG-AFTRA that they will go on strike if their demands are not met
Had a great chat with
@Queerty
where among many things I talked about how the deaf aspect of the show made it a harder sell than the queer aspect did.

The
@glaad
“where we are now” report reminds me of the work we still have to do
-10% of series regulars on primetime shows this season are LGBTQ+
-only 3% of LGBTQ+ series regulars have a disability
-13% of the general population report having a disability
If my math is right, I'm over a year late to the

party... but just found it and promptly binged the whole first season! Hopefully just in time for season two. Cheers
@Shoshannah7
and
@ItsJoshFeldman
, you came in like a wrecking ball. 🍷
Warmed my heart, watching these three wonderful deaf families live their lives on
#DeafOutLoud
- I know that life, coming from a deaf family myself. I hope
@AETV
continues to follow their journeys so many more people around the world can see what that life is like.
On my way to the
#CAAGLAADsummit
for a panel about being a LGBT writer in today’s television landscape. Excited to share and hear what others have to say.
it's true. while we did have more planned for kate & michael, i'm glad that we got to share these people with the world for two beautiful seasons. i'll always be proud of what we put out into the world.

I know people have been asking about S3 of

for a while. While they never canceled us... they also never picked us up. It's really sad, but it is what is. So proud of what we made and to be recognized here!
