We're seeing cases of animals suffering & dying in cold weather all over the U.S.
Dogs chained in backyards, cats huddling in corners.
Please, if you see an animal outside in this, DO SOMETHING. Bring them inside, call authorities.
You could save a life.

A writing group I recently joined just made a new rule: write 15,000 words/month, or be ejected. Anyone who can't make that commitment is a "pretend writer." 🙁 I currently have limited time to write & am so bummed to lose the local support I just found.

Every hurricane, this happens—animals left behind to fend for themselves, some still tethered or penned in backyards, trying frantically to escape flying debris and rising floodwaters.
If you have to evacuate, PLEASE take them with you.

Exactly. And what do this young man’s locks have to do with the scores of other students at your institution? You imply his hair (and/or proud display of heritage & culture) could somehow lower the average?
Please re-think this archaic & hurtful policy and philosophy in general.
Animals MUST stay with their guardians during wildfires & evacuations; they will die if abandoned.

We're seeing so many cases of animals suffering & dying in cold weather this year.
Cats succumbing to hypothermia, dogs chained in backyards.
Please, if you see an animal outside, DO SOMETHING. Bring them inside, call authorities.

It is this kind of hateful rhetoric that is driving caring people from the Church. Not the experience I had growing up, when we were taught tolerance & compassion. More and more I wonder if that was the exception, not the rule. Very disappointing.

This is such a good way to put it. The minute she started talking about the changes, it stopped being fun and became anxiety-inducing. I write because I love it, & it's the ONE thing that I do for myself these days--imposing harsh guidelines on myself would ruin that, I think.
With

People left animals behind during

As Hurricane Florence heads for the Southeast coastline of the U.S., please share this important reminder: ALL members of the family should be included in plans you make to stay safe.
If you must evacuate, do not leave ANYONE behind to die in any flooding that may occur. 🐾♥
All summer, children and animals are being rescued--or DYING--after being left in the heat, and particularly, in hot cars.
I've followed this issue closely since 2006. It is heartbreaking, and IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE.

As the saying goes, it might not seem to make a huge difference in the world to help one individual, but to that one, it can mean everything. As the temperature continued to drop, we were so happy we stopped to help "Mr. Kringle."
Thank you so much to everyone who has shared this tweet. I want to share the story of how I spent part of my Christmas this year, to help explain why it's so important to always DO SOMETHING yourself.
This applies across the board, for both humans & animals in need. (thread)
On our way from one Christmas celebration to another, my family & I came across this poor fellow huddled up behind the door going into a gas station in 15 degree weather (with -35 degree wind chill predicted. In subsequent days it has dropped below zero).
When asked if anyone ever tried to get him, they said he couldn’t be caught, but more power to us if we wanted to try.
We had him in a box (which formerly held Christmas presents) lined with towels in under 30 seconds.
It is hard enough to find good homes for the millions of healthy, two-eyed cats (and dogs) who are currently homeless, but thankfully, I know good people in Des Moines who were able to help me get him vet care & eventually to a shelter where he will be available for adoption.
IMPORTANT REMINDER as

strengthens to a Category 5 w/ sustained winds up to 160 mph! Extremely dangerous & life threatening conditions are currently heading towards Hawaii.
Do not leave ANYONE behind if you have to evacuate. Be prepared!
