I’ve never been a big memorabilia guy, but when I did my postseason basketball cleanup, it just didn’t seem right to throw away the scoresheets from the C-USA title game and Marshall’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

A Presidents Day salute to the Herd’s George Washington, who scored 1,593 points at Marshall from 1978-82. He finished his career as the school’s fifth leading scorer and is still No. 13 on the Herd’s all-time list.

Owen Porter turned in one of the most dominant pass rush days of anyone in Marshall history - he was credited with 3.5 quarterback sacks at JMU - plus four more quarterback pressures - one of those sacks forced a fumble.

It goes down on the stat sheet as a simple tackle for lost yardage - but my favorite play from Marshall's win over Ga. Southern was when Owen Porter got into the backfield so fast he just tackled both the QB and the RB as the Eagles were making/faking the RPO handoff.

Marshall linebacker Tavante Beckett is putting together a monster year. Not only did his three fumble recoveries against the Hilltoppers tie the Marshall single-game record, but he now has five career fumble recoveries, in not much more than a year's worth of playing time.

Henry Colombi completed 16-of-21 passes at Notre Dame, for 145 yards and the go-ahead TD to Devin Miller. Along with his 24-of-26 passing against Norfolk State, Colombi leads the nation in completion percentage - 40-of-47 on the year (.851).

So about that Jaquan Yulee hit on the kickoff return - Holy Wow, I hope that NC State kid is okay (and their others, too). In general, when Yulee makes the tackle on kickoff returns, the opponent pays. He has forced three fumbles in his young career, all on kickoff coverage.

I think the craziest number that came out of the game at JMU is that the Marshall defense held the Dukes to zero 3rd down conversions on 17 attempts (plus 0-for-2 on fourth downs). The previous biggest 0-fer was when Louisville was 0-for-13 on third downs in the 2002 GMAC Bowl.
