Our crews are heading out again this evening to treat primary routes and again from 0400hrs.
Here's some of the team from our Aylesford depot who have been working hard day and night over the last few days around Maidstone and Tonbridge and Malling area.
That's all from us for another season.
Thank you very much for all your support.
Have a safe and happy summer and we hope to see you again from October.
We may be coming to the end of the season (although it’s not over yet!), but we couldn’t resist doing a video back to
@SwingatePrimary
school after seeing Henry’s Tweets. Check out our parody of
#iceicebaby
. We hope you enjoy it and please share away.

@KentHighways
Our winter service ends next week and our crews will finally be stood down for this season.
The average amount of runs carried out is 66 this season we carried out 101
Henry in Unicorn Class entered a competition to name one of the new gritters we will see on the roads in the coming weeks. Look out for ‘Ice Ice Baby’. Henry and his class would love the gritter to come into school.😁
@GrittingKent
Congritulations Henry!
Here are the winning gritter names for the 17 new gritters. Thank you to all who entered, we had some great entries. Winners will also be contacted directly and children will then receive a gritificate. 😄

We will be fitting snow ploughs to our vehicles for Monday. We need more room than usual to get past so if you park on a salting route please ensure there is sufficent width for us to get past
Many thanks for your patience last night in the snow. Unfortunately, due to earlier rain that washes away previous treatments, the intensity of snowfall within rush hour traffic meant it was a struggle against mother nature.
Many thanks,
@SE4x4R
@kentpoliceroads
for assistance
Few comments of people not seeing gritters or no salt but we can ensure you that they have been treating routes since Saturday.
There are many reason why you haven't seen a gritter or it looks like road hasn't been treated but we try the best we can against mother nature.
We're back 👍!!! Well, we've been on standby since Oct actually, but due to the warm weather we haven't been out as yet. But we thought you'd be dying to see our
#IceIceBaby
❄️❄️👶 parody again just to remind you that we are ready for when the cold weather does eventually hit.
We have over 100 farmer contractors who we supply snow ploughs for to help clear roads in our communities.
Big thanks for their help over the last few days.
You may have seen media articles regarding lack of drivers for gritting vehicles across the UK.
Our teams consist of staff who work full time for KCC Highways and our partners, we do not expect to see any issues regarding HGV driver shortages.
Crews have been out today as some road temperatures have struggled to recover, although working on Christmas day they still have been in the Christmas spirit.
We are handing over to the day crews now, just in time to keep them busy as snow is becoming more persistant.
Crews will continue to treat and plough primary routes and Covid testing and vaccination site throughout the day.
An amber snow warning is in place for parts of Kent.
We are heading towards the end of our winter service for this season.
A nice and quiet season which we like, but our crews will remain on standby until mid April.
We must also say a big thank you to all our staff involved in challenging conditions - our forecasters
@metdesk
, highways officers, drivers, contractors and many more who help us keep Kent moving behind the scenes
Driving in snow
Accelerate gently, use low revs and change up to a higher gear as quickly as possible.
Move off in second gear as this will help reduce wheel slip.
For those asking "when will my road get gritted?" The answer is if it is not on a primary salting route then it won't be. We have to prioritise roads which can be viewed at other roads will have to thaw naturally
We have over 5,000 miles of roads in Kent.
We treat over 1,200 miles of roads on our primary salting routes.
Unfortunately we cannot treat all routes or do requests and other roads will have to thaw naturally.
That's our winter service finished for this season.
Many thanks for all your support.
Hope you have a great summer and we will see you all again in October.
🚨Watch this 🚨
This drunk driver drove the wrong way down the M4 near Reading on Saturday. He was arrested and found to be almost four times over the drink-drive limit.
This is another reminder of the potential destruction of drink and drug driving.

Merry Christmas to all our followers. Road surface temperatures looking to be above freezing so no action likely over the weekend so have a good one.!! We will of course remain on standby and update if anything changes
And for main one you have been waiting for, here’s ICE ICE BABY! 😁🥶❄️
We would like to thank all our gritter drivers who work all hours, on shift day and night, including Christmas Day and battle wintery conditions to get the job done.
We will be treating all primary routes from 0330hrs tomorrow. Snow possible from 5am.
Warnings are in place for snow until Wednesday.
Travel disruption is expected with possibilty of vehicles becoming stranded and rural communities being cut off
We are back! Our winter service has now started and our crews will remain on standby until April.

First snow warning this year for us.
Although this is still a lot of uncertainty, this is an official warning from the Met Office, unlike some local media that report daily warnings about snow.
Once again we need to remind motorists to be considerate when parking on primary salting routes. On a daily basis crews over the county are reporting obstructions on routes. If we can't get through on multiple occasions then there is a chance of roads being removed from routes
All primary routes have treated this morning.
Crews will be working with local councils to clear footways and busy shared areas.
Please be aware of pedestrians that may be walking on roads and slow down and give them space.
We will return.... next month!
Make sure you also follow us on our Facebook page to stay updated this winter.
More information on our Winter Service can be found at
Road surface temperatures are expected to fall to around -5c leading to the risk of ice.
All primary routes have been treated this evening and crews will treat them again from 3am.
We will be out next week as we carry out final preparations for the fast approaching start of our Winter service which starts on 26th October. Hopefully you will find our social media accounts helpful to keep you up-to-date this winter

We can adjust the amount of salt that we spread according to the road conditions and the expected road surface temperatures.
We also switch between dry salt and 'prewet' which is salt that is coated with brine as it leaves the lorry
Crews are once treating primary routes. There may still be snow and ice on some roads.
As traffic levels increase this will help the salt work.
Expect road conditions to change within a short distance.
