On this exact month in 1989, Prof. Maathai learned of a plan to construct a 60-storey complex in

intended to house, among others, the headquarters of KANU. After her myriad of protest letters and court cases, the foreign investors canceled the project in January 1990

through conservation. We recently concluded the planting of over 800k trees in Mt. Elgon and Mau water towers despite the Covid 19 challenge. Indeed, the legacy lives on!
Despite her physical challenge, this lady in Kapolet Forest, Trans Nzoia County, has proved that indeed disability isn't inability. She has been actively participating in our tree planting activities from site clearing, pitting, planting & aftercare on the slopes of River Nzoia.
In 2018, we embarked on a large scale restoration project in partnership with Ecosia around Cherangany, Mt. Elgon and Mau Complex watersheds, planting 800,000 trees. 20,000 were planted at the Kenya Military Academy and these are before & after pictures captured in 2018 & 2020
