Peter Kuehne coached boys soccer for Grand Island Central Schools from 1986 to 2009. He was named Niagara Frontier League Coach of the Year in 1998. In 2018, he was named the Niagara Frontier League Cornerstone Award recipient of GI for his lifetime contributions to GI soccer.
Amanda Lawrence, a senior at GIHS, is currently enrolled in the Advanced Placement class working on her college portfolio for college credit. Named as a GICSD Artist of the month, she has a piece of her work submitted in the UB spring exhibition in March.

Nicholas Carey and Natalie Turck, GIHS AP Statistics students, earned a 1st place overall in the UB Statistics competition. Students collected, analyzed, and presented data to judges. Third place overall team of Kassidy Taylor, Brady Hofmeyer, Christian Whetham and Will Soos.
Eighth-grader Aiden Hermanson has won the Buffalo Museum of Science Solution to Plastic Pollution Art Project Competition 2019. Aiden was one of 16 winners, chosen from a field of over 40 schools spanning MS to HS. His work is on display at the science museum on May 15.

Third-graders at Kaegebein are sharing the love with patients at Children's Hospital. They made Valentine's bags with a valentine for the patient, coloring sheet, crayons, word search, small toys, bookmark, and a valentine for the patients to give to their families. How sweet!

Let's give a big Viking welcome to Sidway Elementary School’s new nurse, Tara Kowalik! Born and raised in WNY, she earned her nursing degree from Niagara University and has worked at ECMC, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and in Hawaii.
Students in College French class added painting to their skills by learning how to paint like the Impressionist artists of the 19th century through a language-art collaboration that resulted in these Monet water lily pieces.
Each Friday morning, the staff at VCMS can get a fresh cup of fruit, a bagel or muffin, thanks to students in the Life Skills Class of Tracy Shores that run the Connor Cafe. They shop, chop, serve and sell the food!

Before kindergarten and first-graders can get started creating in Sidway’s Tinkerspace, the teachers have to build and create so they know how to help their students. The Tinkerspace is a dedicated area in the library with materials and equipment for building and learning.
Julie Klein and Emily Cirincione-Prawel, both 2017 GIHS grads, painted these chairs for Eco Island. Each chair illustrates a different bird that is found on GI, along with that bird’s nest. Huth, Kaeg and Sidway kids will love them during their class visits to Eco Island!
Congrats to February Artist of the Month. Erick Wittmann, 8th grader at VCMS, is an exemplary accelerated art student, currently enrolled in Studio in Art at the middle school where he is earning high school credit while still in eighth grade.
