I never knew this,
@Patriots
, about Bill Belichick, and it speaks for the man. This is from an interview NFL great Jim Brown did years ago, expressing his appreciation for what BB did supporting his work with gang members:

I remain disgusted that Fox continues to air horrid Citizens for Sanity ads during MLB playoff games, and not a peep to my knowledge from MLB or MLBPA, even though 30 percent-plus players in the game are Latinos
Oakland Athletics outfielder Stephen Piscotty, who lost his mom, Gretchen, to ALS, but not before he spent her last months caring for her with his family, has been named 2018 recipient of the Tony Conigliaro Award.
Since a few folks have asked, yes, I am among the Red Sox employees whose jobs were terminated, about two months shy of my fifth anniversary as the club’s historian. Still livin’ in hope...I know there have been lots of Covid casualties, but we will rise up, just like

43 years ago, I was hired full time by the Chicago Tribune. I was two classes short of my degree. Unfinished business. Two on-line classes this summer, and this happened. Thank you, Chicago’s

Asked if Sox regretted not using
@DonOrsillo
video, Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy said no, that he thought club appropriately celebrated Rem’s life. Which of course they did. It was great. But given the special Orsillo/Rem bond, I wonder why they didn’t use it at some point in the game
Count me among those who endorse the idea of renaming Jersey Street and calling it Wakefield Way. Fitting tribute to a guy who embraced the full meaning of what it meant to play for the Red Sox, and the enormous impact he made on the community.

I was offered the opportunity to do a video message for my friend and former partner Jerry Remy for tonight’s ceremony at Fenway Park. Sadly, I was notified by Red Sox/NESN that my video would no longer be needed for tonight’s ceremony. Here was my message.

Daniel Bard hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2013.
Today he was informed he made the Rockies Opening Day roster.
Never give up on your dreams, folks. 🙌

On this date in 1773, my ancestor, Benjamin Edes, publisher of the Boston Gazette, hosted the Sons of Liberty as they changed into Indian costumes and headed to Boston Harbor, where they proceeded to dump British tea into the waters below. Happy Boston Tea Party!
On this Veterans Day, we remember Red Sox pitcher Earl Johnson, who landed in Normandy 21 days after the invasion and won Bronze and Silver Stars for heroism at the Battle of the Bulge.
As the Sox celebrate qualifying for the postseason, a reminder,
@Jerry_Remy
, that you were very much a part of this journey, and continue to be. The Nation's thoughts are with you, Rem!
Got on the D train after 16-1. A guy in a Red Sox cap standing a couple feet away. No words are exchanged. We bump fists among the silent Yankee fans, and he turned away. It felt like a scream.

Your many expressions of consolation, comfort, love and respect for my dad are deeply appreciated by me and my family. Thanks for helping to lift us up.
Little news on the personal front. After 25 years of being home, I’m on the move again. You can always find me here, but I will be living in Chicago. Proud to be working for my great friend/brilliant editor
@rjaffe1
A great day for the Yaz family: Dan Duquette passes along word that Giants have called up Mike Yastrzemski, Yaz’s grandson. Should be in SF tonight. Was hitting .316 with 12 HRs in Triple-A
As I continue to hear the nonstop tributes and testimonials of the impact Tim Wakefield made on so many lives, I feel even more strongly that "Wakefield Way" belongs outside Fenway Park. Happy to see so many of you feel the same.

Red Sox announced pricing for World Series. Green Monster seats going for $501, Field box $506-556. Pavilion Box $431. Infield grandstand $366, Bleachers $186-$231. Standing room $151. Sticker shock, anyone? Or are we beyond that?
Over 236,000 people have died from the virus and hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs, including me, and you, sir, want me to stick to baseball? Nice try.
Someone (Phillies?) will pick up JBJ after his release by Sox and pay him major league minimum. But if it all ended today, JBJ can look back w/pride at 10 seasons in big leagues, over 1100 G played (including postseason), best CF defense in Sox history
Cautionary note: Sox fans, more than anybody, should know better than to count NYY out. On this date in ‘78, Yanks were 8 1/2 games behind Sox, in third place, and that season ended with Bucky Dent. Celebrate the sweep, but you may want to avoid dancing on any graves.
Funny, I’m not a gloom’n’doom kind of guy. This Sox team is truly special. But in 35-plus years of covering the game, I’ve seen a lot of things happen and with these teams meeting six times in the last 12 games, I’m just suggesting we don’t get too giddy. That is all
Friday night will be a memorable one for

fans as they get to say good-bye to a special player. Dustin Pedroia was truly a “one of a kind”!!!

I rarely go personal here, but making an exception: My soon to be 92 year old Mom, welcoming a new great grandchild to the world (her 10th!). Calvin Bentz, contemplating whether to root for Sox or Marlins
I know I'll be accused of being a homer, but I am shocked that Alex Cora was not voted AL Manager of the Year. Sometimes I think the voters overthink these things, with all due respect to Bob Melvin.
It’s with a heavy heart that I pass on word that the great Dick Flavin—actor, playwright, TV personality, poet laureate of Red Sox and friend—has died. A big heart with a great zest for life. Loved the ballclub.
Love that Celtics coach Brad Stevens was at the Garden to see B's eliminate Leafs last night. Truly unusual, the way Boston teams support each other to the degree they do.
My condolences to the family of former Red Sox manager Jimy Williams, who devoted his life to baseball and gifted his sons with the game as well. I'll always remember him with a fungo bat in his hand, back pocket bulging with baseballs, always available to work with any player.
These remarkable Red Sox are giving themselves a chance to be in the conversation about the greatest teams ever: ‘27 Yankees, ‘75-76 Big Red Machine, ‘98 Yankees, ‘70 Orioles, ‘61 Yanks, ‘36 Yanks, 72-74 A’s, 29-30 A’s, ‘12 Red Sox et al—if they run the table
After Charles Barkley’s mother passed away, a cat litter scientist from Iowa showed up at the funeral.
“Everybody’s, like, ‘Who’s the Asian dude over there?’ “ Barkley recalls. “I said, ‘That’s my boy, Lin.’ "
My wish list includes a ticker tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes for the anonymous scientists who saved our lives with these vaccines. And a National day of honoring the frontline workers who risked their lives for us. Ceremonies in every community. That is all
David Price made just 11 starts last season. He's healthy. Xander Bogaerts hit just 10 HRs last year after being HBP in hand. He's healthy. Dustin Pedroia can walk again without wincing. Why do some people think it's just spin when Sox say they can be even better this season?
This exchange with Mike Yaz after hitting 3 HRs last night, as chronicled by the great
@hankschulman
: “After he declared he had not hit three homers in a game, ever, someone asked, "Not even in Little League?"
"Not even in a video game," he responded.
