Okay, so I was 19 when the pandemic started. I caught covid in March 2020, before lockdown, and never recovered. Now I can't work, can't leave the house, and I've had no friends for 3 years. So which is worse? A few months of lockdown or a lifetime of isolation?

Why don’t more people talk about what the Covid lockdowns did to young people like me? At 15 years old, I was involuntarily isolated from my friends for SIX MONTHS. I didn’t see them, I didn’t meet them. The lockdowns RUINED young people like me. An entire Generation.

My twin and I used to do this thing where we'd try to be the first to text each other 'Happy Birthday' at midnight. He hasn't done it since I became ill and if that isn't a metaphor for how everyone abandons you, I don't know what is.

@alanasaltz You’re so right! This is why I have an issue with the term “working class” being used as a euphemism for poor. It ignores the existence of disabled people who cannot work. Jorts’ latest posts show how disabled people are viewed as the enemy of the working class.

Patients are subject to more violence than healthcare workers. For as long as there has been a healthcare system in the West, there has been violence against patients. There's also the power dynamic to consider. Healthcare workers have power over patients' lives.

Violence against patients, especially disabled patients, is a foundation of how our healthcare system works because they see us as inferior; as less-than-human. Both people in that story were subjected to violence, but only one is given the power to name it.
