Congratulations to Angelika Amon, GSA member and former Director, for winning a 2019 Breakthrough Prize in Life Science! Amon was honored for work on the consequences of aneuploidy.
Using whole-genome sequencing, Li et al. show that the crest phenotype in chickens, in which the small feathers normally present on the head are replaced by much larger feathers, by a 197 bp duplication in the intron of HOXC10.

Happy birthday to Rosalind Franklin! The Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award for research in genetics is awarded to women in the first 1-3 years of a faculty-level position doing outstanding research anywhere in the world.
Brandt et al. use standard neutral coalescent simulations to benchmark the estimates of pairwise coalescence times from popular ancestral recombination graph inference programs, providing guidelines for choosing the appropriate method.
