Be clear on context and terminology. Pretend like you're writing a Wikipedia entry: what's the most basic knowledge a reader needs to have to understand your argument? This may be history, geography, etc. Also, define your terms! Think beyond the 1- 2 sentence definition [10]

Hot take: Cuban Americans aren't the only Latinxs supporting Trump, and I'm sure the data will show how much we've underestimated the breadth of Latinx conservatism.

How do people feel about teaching their own research in class? Like, your own class. Thinking of assigning a dissertation chapter, but unsure on best practices

As we approach APSA remember: not all social outings must involve alcohol Coffee, food, ice cream, vibes - all options I've found my non-drinking to be an obstacle to networking, and I can't be the only one

...you're missing the point. It's a new word challenging machismo, which is ingrained. All I'm hearing is that you do not care about LGBTQ+ rights enough to inconvenience or discomfort people. I can assure you the "x" is the least problematic part of latinidad

I barely drink alcohol. Personal choice Nonetheless, academic socialization seems to happen mostly around happy hours and drinks. It's so ubiquitous that people even get defensive when you point it out Thank you, @aliciaandrz , for being vulnerable + calling out this reality

These trends (NOT OP's comments) worry me, particularly bc on paper, I was NOT one of these applicants Also, pubs =/= smarts And research experience =/= research future Programs should create future academics, not expect that they arrive fully formed

My jaws keep dropping as I go through 70 PhD applicant files. People w/ 2 coauthored papers & an interesting solo writing sample don’t even make it to the top 10 in my pile. The level of knowledge, research experience & passion these kids bring to the table is just remarkable! 🤩
