Praying the preachers of England will have the strength to resist the temptations to ask in their sermons on the Wedding at Cana, whether it was a work meeting or a party. 🙏
If you're scandalised that the wound in Christ's side is being compared to a vagina, wait til you see what they do with the big candle and the font on Easter Vigil.
Solemn Mass on a Sunday morning in an Anglo-catholic parish is just amazing. Imagine all this opulence, artistry, like a living painting you see in the National Gallery but it’s all for poor inner city people. Treating them to ritual and religion you’d think was only for the rich
My condolences to anyone who was told this morning that Jesus needed to be taught not to exclude others and that actually his messianic work was for the whole world after all.
This clearly makes a mockery of John 1 and the Nicene Creed.
Because of this Community Note, an awful lot of Evangelicals are just now realising that never reading the Deuterocanonicals is a Victorian innovation.
I had a long call with my sister tonight. She has a Bible from 1764 that she picked up in a shop in the UK, where she lives. She read me one of the Chapters, called "Belle and the Dragon." It is a story that includes teleportation, dragons, of course 💃, and Persia and forgotten
It’s been almost 20 years since the publication of Common Worship: Daily Prayer. It’s time to stop trying to make the pause-on-the-red-diamond and the modern-language Lord’s Prayer happen. No one wants these things.
@2D0XPS
Bring back “proper Vicars” from the minor aristocracy who have been to Oxbridge who will preside at every local organisation and committee, and in addition will sustain several eccentric hobbies.
I absolutely love Alpha Course and Christianity Explored but I am wondering if the "open discussion" approach to Evangelisation these employ is suitable for the emerging generation. I meet younger people who are approaching the Church looking to hear Doctrine "neat" so to speak?
The Ordinariate: Come on over, we have the dignified worship and wholesome words of the Book of Common Prayer.
Anglicans: Come on over, we have the elegant and ancient Traditional Latin Mass.
This doesn’t look like a healthy parent-child relationship, right? I didn’t think so either.
So why do we act like it is when the context is God?

The theologians will argue about whether the same people who cried “hosanna” also cried “crucify” but I can assure you they are the same.
It’s me. I did that.
I am currently sitting in a worship service and the guy is singing about the “precious blood of Jesus Christ.”
I just came because I wanted a space to be in my heart and be in prayer/peace for the world.
Can we not give the bloodlust a rest even here?
You couldn’t make it up. I’m literally unlocking the door to church and there’s this lad standing on the steps “I need to pray and I need to talk to the priest”.
You’d think these sorts of things are made up but last night we had a procession past some bars, and when we popped into one of those bars after Mass a group of young people who were hanging out there were excited and intrigued by what they saw and had a good chat about it.
Ideally:
Will centre on a gorgeous church on the edge of a market town with a good coffee scene
Beds and bathrooms, please no camping
Incredible views
One, maximum two talks per day
BCP daily office beginning with the Sentences and saying All The Things.
In a better era people would have been more shocked that I prayed a rosary than that I prayed for the unborn.
My baptist pastor mate I’m on the phone with now is horrified that I seek the prayers of Mary.
Moving day again (my fifth since leaving America in ‘21) and happened to be packing this about noon.
It’s a terrific prayer book and I’ve been nothing but disappointed by its derision by Weird Anglican Twitter. Great design, carefully broad, & actually authorised by a province
Evening Prayer after an incredibly rich weekend of God’s abundant blessings.
“Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
Luke 17:18
Of course the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven makes theological sense, but for the skeptical it is worth remembering that nobody claims to know where her body is entombed.
We do have these claims for every other New Testament saint.
I feel like
@JusBrierley
@glenscrivener
and
@AJWTheology
are uttering prophecy. Many (particularly male) unchurched people are quite literally walking though the door saying exactly what the podcasts say about meaninglessness, empty relationships, and need for a better option.
We need to figure out a way to keep churches open in the evenings.
People in the midst of an existential crisis are currently unable to access the spooky nave of their local Gothic parish church after business hours and it’s keeping them from conversion/plot development.
Wild watching some people have a little meltdown over Christmas being on a Monday.
“What do you MEAN I have to be in Church twice in 48 hours?!”
I dunno man guess the Lord Jesus Christ is interrupting your family life.
The Patronal Festival for
@carver_street
was so good but my lasting impression is the number of young people who stopped and stared and took photos of our procession.
More important than getting all your Holy Week printing done is to pray and pray earnestly for those who will attend, serve, sing, greet, preach, and preside that Jesus Christ will be glorified and that hearts will be radically converted to the Gospel.
I don’t see how we can claim Jesus is “God from God, Light from Light” and then say he had serious moral and/or intellectual faults he needed to be taught to overcome.
That would be a form of adoptionism wouldn’t it? That Jesus somehow attains his status by being exemplary?
Strange to see the flack
@OurCofELike
is getting for going to

. The CofE's position is that unless one of these criteria is met abortion is wrong, which means she opposes 98% of abortions in the UK.
Gonna tell everyone on St George's Day that the reason we don't see dragons today despite them being depicted in almost every culture is because the Saints and brave knights killed them all.
Hanging out with a mate who is shortly going to get Baptised and Confirmed and he’s telling me about joy of the various rules and codexes for Warhammer.
Cant wait to teach him about the Liturgy of the Hours. He’s gonna be thrilled.
The rate of Down Syndrome births in Europe is about half of what it would be due to abortion.
Many of the parents go on to have a healthy child instead, or maybe two.
So you get just as many lives but more health.
There are actually people who think this is a bad thing.
Many congratulations to the candidates who were baptised this morning and to those who were confirmed. Molly, Bianca, Ted, Oliver, Hayley, Morgana, James and Isabella. Bishop Stephen also commissioned our new additional parish nurse Louise.

Over a cup of tea after the Daily Mass yesterday a Millennial woman shared how she had recently become a Christian and how r/DankChristianMemes had been a part of her journey to discover the Faith.
Time to go burn every book on evangelisation and Missiology I own.
I have always chosen to not engage with posts on
@OurCofELike
which I believed did not reflect the Christian faith. I was surprised that others did not similarly ignore things from that account they didn’t approve of.
Many blessings today at Mass but the most delightful thing I saw was the Priest taking the Host and making the sign of the cross over an infant in the womb and blessing that child. May they always know the love of Christ!
It’s like the anxiety around religious ceremony in our parish churches isn’t it? Feeling embarrassed about how out of touch you feel you dispense with all the fussy things hoping to win over those who have no intention of going to church, while punishing those who do.
Did you know we care for the Bishop of Durham's coronation cope in our collections?
While not being used for the coronation of King Charles III, the cope has been worn at the last four coronations of British monarchs.
Worried about the state of the Church today? You’re not alone!
Like St Francis you too can renounce all wealth, titles, and inheritance to preach the Gospel boldly and gather around you brothers and sisters who will live courageously for the conversion of the world.
The Church of England is the established Christian church in England.
Our roots go back to the time of the Roman Empire, when the church came into existence in what was then the province of Britain.
Find out more about our history at .
Those who are frustrated about the obligation placed on them to attend Divine Service on the Lord’s Day when there is something else they’d quite like to watch that day may find themselves poorly equipped to handle all the other things the Faith asks of them.
@OurCofELike
This is one of the most important posts I’ve seen on this account. Lots of clerical families struggle financially and it goes unspoken so often. Well done.
I was confirmed in the Church of England on Christ the King Sunday 2015. Other communions of Christians are available, but I chose this one. I chose it because this is the Church of this land with Apostolic foundations, and by honouring it I honour them.
Trinity Sunday 2021 was the first Mass I attended after moving back to England.
“For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.”
Psalm 33
You don’t need to make the episode of the Canaanite Woman a lesson in how to not be a racist. Tons of other texts and types you can go to for that.
The fact that a gentile will press in and recognise the Saviour despite being an unwelcome outsider tells us about the Kingdom.
Walking past a football stadium just now seeing these dads and uncles pouring out of the working men’s clubs and pubs with their sons as young as 6 in tow.
Are these kids going to be ushered off to another part of the stadium to watch their own separate football match?
I have a Nigerian godson. It makes me absolutely furious to hear the self-proclaimed defenders of Traditional Christianity expressing racist views. It must be resisted. The world, the state, the nation, the ethnic tribe are not our home. Our home is with the Saints in light.
I've got a niggling scruple about depicting the Father in devotional Art. Or rather, to depict Him as an old man with a beard. I am quite happy for Him to be depicted in some way with a shorthand like triangle or hand making a square or blessing, but to depict His face?
St Augustine being really normal about the Lord’s Prayer this morning in the Office of Readings. How many times I’ve made obscure what is really quite simple!
