I don't know how you design a redzone offense without Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson. Why spend premium picks on those players if you aren't going to feature them? This has been asked a million times and Arthur Smith still has no answer.
#Bills
rookie TE Dalton Kincaid had 11 targets and 10 receptions this week.
#Lions
rookie TE Sam LaPorta has had 10+ targets *three times* this season.
#Falcons
TE Kyle Pitts, in *three years*, has just two games with 10+ targets and has never had 10 receptions in a game.
The
#Falcons
trading picks for Bill Belichick would be one of the greatest mistakes in franchise history and would cause me to lose all confidence in Arthur Blank.
If you're excited about Zac Robinson, Raheem Morris deserves the credit.
Robinson was arguably the top OC candidate available but chose the
#Falcons
because of his relationship with Morris.
Can't get over how the
#Falcons
spent three years gathering pieces for Arthur Smith's offense...and that offense is terrible.
Feels like we've all been bamboozled.
#Falcons
have adjusted their front office structure, as GM Terry Fontenot and new HC Raheem Morris will now report directly to Arthur Blank, instead of CEO Rich McKay, per the team's release.
#Falcons
reportedly had a trade worked out with Montez Sweat and planned to extend as part of the deal, per
@JFowlerESPN
. Sweat wanted to come to Atlanta.
#Bears
swooped in at the last minute with their higher 2nd and
#Commanders
took it.
Brutal for Atlanta and Sweat.
Bill Belichick is still the head coach in New England but the Atlanta Falcons are a team to watch if Belichick is available. They are interested, per sources.
Terrific rep here between veteran CB Casey Hayward and rookie WR Drake London. London comes away with the TD catch and draws the hold from Hayward.
#Falcons
Unless you want the
#Falcons
to trade for Lamar Jackson or trade up to the top of the 2023 NFL Draft, you should get comfortable with Desmond Ridder as the starter next season.
Arthur Smith apologists can go argue with someone else. If you think this offense is even close to good enough with the amount of investment
#Falcons
put in, you're delusional.
Heading into MNF,
#Falcons
defensive ranks through two weeks:
T-8th in scoring defense
4th in total yardage allowed
4th in passing yardage allowed
22nd in rushing yardage allowed
Per the
#falcons
release:
The search for a new head coach of the Falcons will begin immediately. It will be led by Blank and McKay, with input from Falcons General Manager Terry Fontenot, and several other appropriate members of Blank's Atlanta Falcons and AMB Sports and
Some people are so far into their
#Falcons
hater bag that they're still bringing up Lamar Jackson. For the final time, HE WAS NEVER AVAILABLE. No chance to acquire him. Everyone knew it, which is why nobody tried.
It's not relevant to the Kirk Cousins situation at all. Stop it.
I like the Raheem Morris hire for the
#Falcons
. Extensive experience on both sides of the ball, previous HC experience, and tremendous relationships across the league.
If the rumors are true that he'll be bringing along Zac Robinson as OC, could be a slam dunk.
Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenot just burned every bridge they had possibly built with this Watson fiasco.
#Falcons
even more of a laughingstock than they were before, and I'd be shocked if Matt Ryan wasn't already demanding a trade.
Hard to not feel a lot better about the
#Falcons
overall draft after Day 2. Picks so far:
Round 1, Pick 8: WR Drake London
Round 2, Pick 38: EDGE Arnold Ebiketie
Round 2, Pick 58: LB Troy Andersen
Round 3, Pick 74: QB Desmond Ridder
Round 3, Pick 82: EDGE DeAngelo Malone
Happy for Matt Ryan. He gets to leave the trainwreck that is the 2022
#Falcons
to go to a terrific win-now situation with the
#Colts
. Smart to capitalize and get another chance at a Super Bowl elsewhere.
Terrific player and person, and I'll miss him dearly.
Watching the
#49ers
win with Brock Purdy really makes me want to roll with Desmond Ridder in 2023.
Spend the money to get this defense to a top-15 level and bolster the weaknesses on offense.
Honestly, outside of the Watson fiasco, I think the
#Falcons
have been making some savvy, value-conscious free agent signings thus far.
K Younghoe Koo
CB Casey Hayward
CB Isaiah Oliver
RB Damien Williams
OT Elijah Wilkinson
DT Anthony Rush
WR Olamide Zaccheaus
FSU WR Johnny Wilson gets past Georgia safety Javon Bullard and then secures the catch. Wilson's hands are exceptional, he's been catching everything.
#SeniorBowl
Wow.
#Falcons
will get Jeff Okudah for just $3.682M in 2023, as
#Lions
agreed to pay a chunk of his salary to get the deal done.
Trade gets better by the day.
Per a league source, to facilitate the trade of CB Jeff Okudah to the Atlanta Falcons, the Lions agreed to pay $1.5M of his 2023 salary
Falcons inherit a one-year, $3.682M deal for the former third overall pick, with a fifth-year option deadline of May 1st
The
#Falcons
set their reputation on fire in the hopes they could convince Watson to come home and fill their stadium, only to have him pull out at the last second for more money from the
#Browns
. Can't make this stuff up.
Kyle Pitts can dust any linebacker in coverage. It is literally not fair. Pitts effortlessly beat ever player the defense threw at him. Only players that have had any success covering him so far: CB A.J. Terrell, and S Richie Grant.
#Falcons
Arthur Smith won't bench Mariota in this game. He's made that very clear. But if the
#Falcons
don't win today, there's no reason not to play Desmond Ridder over the final four games.
Bengals three-time Pro-Bowl DE Trey Hendrickson has requested to be traded from Cincinnati, per league source. Hendrickson is due to make $15 million this season, and is looking for more long-term security than Cincinnati has been willing to offer.
This pick makes no sense for the
#Falcons
and the timeline they put themselves on with the signing of Kirk Cousins. Michael Penix Jr. won't see the field for two years, and even then, Atlanta would eat $25M in dead cap to move on from Cousins in 2026.
One major schematic change the
#Falcons
will almost certainly see under new OC Zac Robinson is a change to 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR) as the primary package.
#Rams
ran 11 on 82% of 1st down plays, most in the NFL.
Atlanta ran 11 on 14% of 1st down plays, least in the NFL.
Look at the closing speed from
#Falcons
rookie LB Troy Andersen here. Beats A.J. Terrell to Nick Chubb where they combine for the TFL. More than that though, you can see Andersen actually slow down and focus on making the tackle instead of going all-out. Good discipline!
Next domino to fall will be Grady Jarrett. Hard to believe he'd want to sign an extension with the
#Falcons
at this point. If that's the case, best to try and move him now to get picks for the rebuild.
For reference, here are my top targets for the
#Falcons
at 8.
1. S Kyle Hamilton
2. EDGE Aidan Hutchinson
3. EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux
4. OT Ikem Ekwonu
5. OT Evan Neal
6. EDGE Jermaine Johnson
7. EDGE Travon Walker
8. DT Jordan Davis
One of those players will be there at 8.
Obviously the most important decision for the
#Falcons
is at QB.
Personally, I think a Justin Fields trade makes the most sense. He's on an upward trajectory as a passer and brings so much dynamic ability as a runner. Plus, he'll probably only cost a 2nd for two years w/ option.
The
#Saints
are currently slated to have the 5th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
...oh wait, that's the
#Eagles
, because New Orleans traded it away
