Something to reflect on today...
We live in a research culture where overwork is accepted as a status symbol and productivity is associated with self-worth

After 2 years of searching for a surrogate and nearly 8 months of appointments with doctors, counsellours and lawyers, I am pleased to say we have finished our surrogacy paperwork (>70 pages of documents) and have forwarded it all for approval ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ
Beyond grateful to have the all clear for both my ovarian and breast cancer check ups ๐ thatโs 8 years ๐ฅน
Iโm grateful for all the messages and support Iโve received ๐ this community is amazing โค๏ธ
It is official: I am 4.5 years CANCER FREE!!! Only 6 months to reach the survivor category :-)
While a
#cancer
diagnosis doesn't define who I am, it has taught me a lot, especially to put things into perspective. Here are my reflections and learnings from the past 5 years:
A deadly tiger snake has caused disruption in central Melbourne, forcing police to block off part of a busy city street until it could be bagged by a reptile catcher.
As Iโm scoring fellowships I have some suggestions for those writing one, now or in the future:
1- Make it easy for the reader to find the info we need. Use headings, separate types of presentations (oral/poster/presenter/invited) and papers (first author or not)

CTCS grants - an overall success rate of 6.9% (30/436)!
However, for a change, female CIAs had 9.7% success rate compared to 4.9% of male CIAs

So I will be taking some time tonight and this weekend to recharge and celebrate the fact that I am a 5y cancer survivor - and the stats for that were as low as getting any of these fellowships

5 years ago, following a 'cyst' diagnosis, I entered my surgeon's office and told him I was there for good news. He then looked at me and told me I had advanced stage
