Tayden Lorenzen, the son of the late Jared Lorenzen, completed his first career varsity pass on Friday in Highlands victory over Boone County.
Have heard the freshman has a lot of potential.
Since 2016, UK has had:
— Bam Adebayo
— De’Aaron Fox
— SGA
— Tyler Herro
— Tyrese Maxey
— Jamal Murray
— Immanuel Quickley
— Jarred Vanderbilt
— PJ Washington
— Oscar Tshiebwe
Zero Final Fours in that span.
Can someone explain how travel baseball, little league baseball filled with people at ballparks and AAU basketball can be played but fall sports are in jeopardy?
Somebody?
Love how grown ass men on are resorting to arguing and name calling about Mr. Basketball while candidates like Michael Moreno and David Johnson are congratulating the winner. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from them.
An update on Mason County’s Evan Schumacher from his father, Eric. Evan fell off a cliff yesterday in Morehead and is a miracle to be where he is right now with such a steep fall. Evan is a member of the golf and basketball teams for the Royals. Keep him in your thoughts.
Man…10 seasons of covering HS hoops ended tonight. I wake up every day and love my job, hope you all enjoyed the coverage and thanks for following along. The Florida sun is calling my name then it’s on to spring sports!
Nicholas Co. baseball coach Travis Sims has died after his long battle with cancer. Sims was not only multiple 10th Region Coach of the Year winner, but a great man and loved by many. May he rest his peace. My thoughts are with his family, friends and the Nicholas Co. community.
Want to know an easy fix to the new KHSAA football alignment?
Adjust to four classes. Six is entirely too much for just 227 teams or so.
— Have bigger districts (8 teams)
— Less teams in playoffs (16 a class)
— Makes the regular season much more meaningful
Move over Kelly Coleman, there’s a new scoring king in the state of Kentucky. Lyon County’s Travis Perry is KHSAA’s new all-time leading scorer after this free throw to give him 4,338 career points.
This is all so unfair for the student-athlete. Get told yesterday they get the green light to play, now some school districts are saying not so fast and no telling what ole' Andy is going to do. I feel for them. I've certainly lost my patience with all of it.
Woke up to a parent messaging me on Facebook that their son’s eyes lit up when he saw his name in the paper. It’s easy to focus on the stars, but that right there is a pretty cool feeling knowing it made his day. Love what I do!
Devastated to report Fleming County student-athlete Buddy Morgan died this morning from injuries too much to overcome in a May 15 auto accident. He fought like crazy. My thoughts are with his family, friends and the Fleming County community at this time. RIP Buddy.
Taking off on vacation this week, but wanted to share some news. Next week is my last week at
@LedgerSports
as I’m taking the Sports Editor position at
@Linknky
to cover Boone, Kenton, Campbell, NKU and Thomas More sports.
Awful 10th Region news. Paris alum Jekobi Wells was shot and killed today. Wells played football and basketball for the Greyhounds, helping lead them to All “A” state title in 2017 and named the MVP of the tourney. My thoughts are with his family, friends and Greyhound community.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but not one technical foul, flagrant or any kind of altercations at the Sweet 16. Kids showed great class and sportsmanship after victory or defeat. Was really impressed with the kids answers in press conferences after humbling wins or losses as well.
There it is. Robertson County’s Justin Becker becomes the 37th boys’ basketball player in KHSAA history to score 3,000 career points. Becker does it with a free throw at the 1:44 mark in the first.
This is infuriating. How about the people who worked through all this? Didn’t receive $600/week for not working and have been asked to do more during a pandemic since staffs have been trimmed.
Augusta's Kason Hinson exits one last time with a hug from his father and head coach Jason.
“Toughest night of my life. The type of ballplayer he is, is no indication of what kind of kid he is. Unbelievable son and lucky to call him that. Just wanted to get one against them."
Limit attendance (2 per player), quarantine if warranted. Follow protocols.
Play ball.
If people can go Christmas shopping, kids can play basketball.
OH, IN and TN are playing.
The
@khsaa
meets Thursday to discuss the start of basketball and other winter sports. This map does not suggest we are going to play anytime soon.
It is deeply red and shows no signs of improvement.
Travis Perry finishes with 27 points and closes out his career with 5,481 points.
And he adds a state championship ring to the most decorated resume in Kentucky HS basketball.
There's 11 undefeated football teams left in Kentucky:
Mayfield (8-0)
Metcalfe Co. (8-0)
Bardstown (9-0)
CAL (8-0)
Union Co. (8-0)
Mason Co. (8-0)
Corbin (8-0)
Warren East (8-0)
Frederick Douglass (8-0)
Woodford Co. (8-0)
Southwestern (8-0)
How about Campbell County's Joel Day? Played the whole tourney with a fractured spine. Doctors cleared him to play and told him to play with it as much as he could handle.
Really enjoyed covering that Campbell County team the past couple of weeks. Class program, class kids and they do it the right way. Excited to see where Reid Jolly and Drew Wilson end up at the next level. Gamers.
Bracken County not playing around this year. If a spectator gets thrown out of a sporting event, they won’t be allowed back for the rest of the season for that respective sport. Good for them.
GRC and Harrison had less than 15, we literally ran bracken’s student section tonight before we left, and campbell has double the people but we’re still louder🤔 for being a reporter you don’t really get your facts right.🤫
People are up in arms over a shortened KHSAA basketball season? It’s a four-week difference! 30 games are way too much anyways, most states play around 20 regular season games. Chill.
Chris Lofton caught 175 passes for 3,511 yards and 40 TDs in three seasons playing at Mason County. He had 1,624 receiving yards during the season pictured here in 2003. He’s 10th all-time in KHSAA receiving yards.
Life just isn’t fair sometimes. Buddy Morgan signed to continue his football and academic career two months ago to University of the Cumberlands. He won the Panthers QB job in the latter part of last season and impressed the coaches at the next level with his athleticism.
Saddened to report former Mason Co. Lady Royal Courtney Moran died yesterday. She started for three seasons and was named 1st-Team All-Area by The Ledger Independent in 2012.
Lady Royals asst. Jason Butler described her as, “Great kid. She was one of my all-time favorite kids.”
Minding my own biz in a gas station line, dude walks up to me, “Sorry, we got a difference of opinion on that.”
Referring to the mask I had on.
My response, “I don’t give a damn what you think.”
Shut him up real quick and nothing else was said.
Heroes. If we can send billions to Ukraine, we can spend billions on armed security guards/officers at every school in America. Isn’t the most important asset in this country our youth?
I could say “enough is enough”, but it’s beyond that.
Nashville Police Officer Michael Collazo and Officer Rex Englebert shot and killed school shooter Audrey Hale.
When officers arrived -- investigators say Hale was shooting at police cars through a window.
Collazo and Englebert ran toward the gunfire -- killing the shooter.
Cooper’s path to Kroger Field:
vs Collins (6-4 No. 3 seed) — W
at No. 1 seed Scott County — W
at No. 1 seed Southwestern — W
at No. 1 seed Highlands — W
Anytime, anywhere, any place?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!!
Landon Johnson, pinch-hitting with a 1-2 count, fights off a couple pitches, works the count to 3-2 and DELIVERS a go-ahead two-run double.
Beechwood 3, Dixie Heights 2, Top 7.
Just heard on the radio Corona beer sales had its worst quarter because of the public’s misconception and if it was linked to the CoronaVirus. Dear God we are so stupid.
One final Justin Becker appreciation tweet:
-3,171 career pts (20th all-time)
-1,200 career reb (23rd all-time)
-1,169 FG made (4th all-time)
-59% FG for his career
-661 FT made (11th all-time)
-75% FT for his career
-156 3PM
-102-56 W/L in games played
Take a bow
@becker1137
There it is. Pendleton County's Dontaie Allen commits to Kentucky. 'Cats first in-state offer and commit since 2013 when Derek Willis and Dominique Hawkins did.
Probably the best student section in the state, Covington Catholic’s
@CovCathColonels
coming out with the “We ready, we ready for y’all” chant in warmups:
My five Miss Kentucky basketball nominees:
Seygan Robins, Mercer County
Anna Clephane, Scott
Taylor Clos, Campbell County
Blair Green, Harlan County
