Update - Officer Eggum remains in critical but stable condition, and continues to show signs of improvement. He is surrounded by family and friends who have been lifted up by all the kind gestures from community members. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Yesterday, Eagan officers responded to a car going off the road, down a steep hill & submerged in water below. Officers immediately jumped in the water, broke the car window and rescued the man who had suffered a medical emergency. Eagan Fire & a witness to the incident assisted
These officers needed to force a door to provide immediate aid to a man w/ a medical emergency. These officers didn’t want him to come home to a broken door... so they fixed it.

This kid is pretty amazing. He pulled an unconscious man from a pool on Sunday. He along with his uncle have been nominate for the Eagan Police Department's "Life Saving Award."
Officer waved down today to check out a suspicious vehicle after someone saw a foot sticking out of the trunk. The foot was fake and it’s 70 year old owner agreed it’d be a good idea to keep inside the trunk... until Halloween that is.

Busted By The Bus: Cops will be getting on the school bus looking for distracted drivers. Bus drivers see drivers run the stop arm nearly every day. Here's some details on the operation taking place in Eagan this week to stop this dangerous behavior
Close call for our traffic unit officer when a box truck ran a red light at Yankee Doodle and Coachman Rd. The truck driver had been using his phone at the time. This is a scary reminder that a moment of distraction could end someone’s career or life.
This morning Officer Kade Eggum was responding to an emergency call when his squad was struck by a semi-truck on 35E and Yankee Doodle Road. He was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Officer Eggum was released from the hospital yesterday and is home where he will continue his recovery. His family continues to express their appreciation for all the support during these difficult times, but ask for their privacy as Kade works to make a full recovery.
Today we remember Officer Scott Patrick of the Mendota Heights Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on July 30, 2014. Our thoughts are with Scott's family, friends, and partners

A successful “Busted by the Bus” operation took place this afternoon. 17 squad cars from seven agencies around Dakota County:
- Made 131 traffic stops
- Issued 60 citations
- Arrested 1 for driving under the influence
2 for .22. Our DWI officer assisted State Patrol arresting a driver for DUI in one of our hotel parking lots. The driver's buddy pulled in to watch. Our DWI officer saw him stumbling and arrested him too. 2 cars, 2 friends, 2 trips to jail, and both had alcohol levels of .22.
Congratulations to Deputy Chief Mike Fineran on his retirement after 34 years of service in law enforcement, with 27 of those years serving the citizens of Eagan! We wish him the best in his retirement!
Congratulations to Detective Joe Marshall who retired from the Eagan Police Department after 31 years of service to the citizens of Eagan, with the past 15 years serving as the School Resource Officer at Eagan High School. Congratulations Detective Marshall!
No calls for service so far. Found this stand off Blackhawk Rd with these girls selling lemonade. They say they've earned $60 in a few hours! I asked them what they are going to spend the money on and they said it all goes to a charity to support the homeless.
The father of the 3 year old child who went missing but was found stopped by with doughnuts. He was able to personally thank Detective Sgt. John Collins who found the girl. The doughnuts were not needed but very much appreciated.
The Eagan Police Department has been made aware of a social media post that falsely identifies one of our officers as the person caught on video breaking windows in Minneapolis. We have seen the photo and this person does not work for the Eagan Police Department.
Get well soon Loki! Our K9 "Loki" suffered a torn ACL during a training exercise and underwent surgery yesterday to repair it. He is doing good but not expected to be able to work for 8 - 12 weeks. We look forward to working with Loki again soon.

It may be hot out, but that doesn't stop Officer Rezny from helping a mom and daughter out with their flat tire. Officer Rezny is always willing to lend a hand.
Incredible Recovery: 5 yr old Gedion was found unresponsive in a pool last May which resulted in major trauma. Today he reunited with the emergency workers & the 2 citizen rescuers who found him. He laughed and hugged those who saved his life...
These two needed help after a magic trick with handcuffs went wrong. Without a key and failed attempts with a bobby pin they came to the police department. Officers provided assistance and freed them. We are always here to help ;)

Missing Person Update: David Benson has been located safe in the city of Newport. We want to thank all of those who helped share information and searched for David.
The county curfew and the additional police staffing throughout the county assisted in identifying a number of people who were out committing criminal offenses which led to multiple arrests.
We received a visit from these two sisters who wanted to show their appreciation to an officer and a detective who helped them thru a sensitive family matter! They also wanted to thank all the officers for the work they do every day!
Residents are understandably concerned about civil unrest, rioting and property damage occurring in the Twin Cities. Law enforcement agencies throughout Dakota County are working together to protect public safety in the county.

BABY DELIVERY: On May 7th, Eagan Officers and Health East Paramedics delivered a baby after Mom suddenly went into labor at her home. Baby Lucy and Mom are doing great and Dad says he will “have a great story to share”.
Today officers conducted a search for an elderly female that went missing at Lebanon Hills Park. She had been missing for 1.5 hours and was eventually found sitting on her walker on a snowy path cold but doing just fine. Great job by all involved

The truck driver was issued a citation for the following:
-Fail to obey a traffic control device
-Using a mobile device while driving a commercial vehicle
-Driving without a valid MN license
-Improper truck markings
-No current medical certificate in possession
Sana was found by an Eagan detective in a neighbors house after she most likely found a way in through a unlocked sliding glass door. She is being reunited with her family now.
The Eagan Police Department has continued to search for Bryce Borca and follow leads and tips from the community. We are not currently looking for volunteers but encourage anyone with information to call our department.
CRIME ALERT: We have recently seen a spike in thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles. If you see suspicious behavior, such as someone working under a car in a public parking lot with the sound of cutting or grinding noises, please call 911.
Dakota County has imposed a county-wide curfew this weekend which starts Friday, May 29, 2020 at 8:00 to Monday, June 1, 2020. The curfew will go into effect at 8:00 pm each night to 6:00 am the following morning. For more information
Another Retirement! Please join us in wishing Sergeant Brad Ramthun a fond farewell as he will be retiring from Eagan PD on 4/26/18, after serving over 29 years. Prior to joining Eagan PD, he worked for the Wabasha, MN PD for 3 years. Congratulations to Brad and his family!

At last evening's City Council meeting, Chief New gave the Oath of Office to our three newest police officers - Officer Casey, Officer Heitz and Officer Fort. Each had family/friends in attendance to help them celebrate! We officially welcome them to the Eagan Police Department!

911 Hang Up: Met my new friend Jackson (4 y/o). We had a chat about when it's a good time to call 9-1-1. Contrary to what he thought, wanting a cool sticker was not a good enough reason. He showed me he new bike, then I left.

I just responded to a welfare check of a female who disappeared from work in the middle of her shift. She was fine but said she doesn’t work there any more. I gave that message to her boss who was a little surprised.
