The increasingly threatening DMs I’m getting from pro-hunting groups are now resorting to saying I don’t understand British Culture because I’m brown skinned
Well I am British and understand MY culture
Fox Hunting is illegal, most British people oppose it
YOU are the minority
I’ve had people decline the Covid vaccine because someone they know felt unwell after theirs
It’s ENTIRELY normal to get a temp, headache, sore arm or feel a bit run down after the vaccine: it’s your immune system responding well to it
It’s SO MUCH better than getting Covid
Best chat up line this week, from a patient in her 80’s!
Patient: Dr Khan, you remind me of my FOURTH husband?
Me: Fourth? How many husbands have you had?
Patient: THREE.
Me: 😳😂
All this talk on immigration. My mum and dad were invited to work here by the government. They had 7 kids:
1 GP
1 A&E consultant
1 NHS dentist
2 teachers
1 police officer
1 environmental worker
Don’t tell us we don’t contribute to society.

Over the last few weeks I’ve had an increase in the amount of very personal abusive DMs I get mainly for:
Lending my voice to end illegal fox and hare hunting and my pro-Covid vaccine messages
To be clear: I WILL NOT STOP
Suggesting people pay for GP appointments and A&E attendances is the yet another step towards an agenda that leads to privatisation of the NHS
The NHS should ALWAYS be free at the point of need no matter what your circumstances
The nurses strike isn’t just about pay, of course we should pay nurses fairly
It’s about being valued for the work they do, it’s about safe levels of staffing, it’s about improving working conditions, it’s to prevent more nurses leaving
It’s about patient safety
My A&E consultant sister has had to move out of the family home in order to reduce the risk to our Mother
After seeing potential Covid patients all day, she stays in a room alone and has to do it all again the next day
She is doing this for us
Please stay at home for her
A kid I saw today was terrified of my mask and visor so I had to pretend I was an astronaut and moonwalk slowly over to him pretending we were all on the moon!
It worked
Had to abandon the car and walk to the local nursing home due to the snow
Got my cool bag full of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine, a trolley full of all the bits I need to get vaccinating
Got some funny looks on the way but well worth it for these vulnerable patients
#COVID19
Okay so this is exciting, I’ve been awarded an honorary doctorate in health from University of Bradford for services to health education and the work I’ve done with the students!
My sister just rang me to say their cat had accidentally scratched my niece whilst playing and if there is anything she should do
I asked if it drew blood, then heard my 5 year old niece say:
“Cats can’t draw!”
Reposting this picture especially for all the pro-hunting people sliding abusive messages into my DMs, you won’t stop us from calling you out
Trail hunting is a smokescreen used to terrorise and kill foxes. Fox hunting is illegal
It’s not big and it’s not clever
#BoxingDay
Every time I leave
#MamaKhans
house she insists on coming outside, watching me get into the car, tapping on the passenger window and saying
“Put your seatbelt on and remember it’s not a race”
Every single time. And I love it.
I also have to text her when I get home
Morning!
So this happened last night and I’m still fizzing with excitement!
I went out to fill the hedgehog bowl around 8.30pm and as soon as my back was turned these two appeared
And they let me get super close to them, I was made up! 😍
Happy Thursday!
#ThursdayMotivation
I don’t often tweet politics but watching

I have to say this:
The care homes I look after DID have Covid positive residents discharged from hospitals
The staff DID NOT have adequate PPE
Other residents caught Covid and DIED in HIGHER NUMBERS as a result
One of the best conversations I heard after vaccinating nursing home residents yesterday was an elderly grandfather telling his grandson they were one step closer to going out for their weekly lunches again 💓
There appears to be a sinister plan by the right-wing media to dismantle the NHS by attempting to discredit NHS staff, blaming them for a decade of underfunding and poor workforce planning
They’re Starting with GPs, it will be other clinical staff next
Don’t fall for it
Saw a young boy today who said he wanted to be a Doctor but said people from “round here” don’t get to become doctors
I told him:
I grew up round the corner from here. Dad was a bus driver, Mum started as a cleaner and seamstress
If I can do it so can YOU - just work hard.
Before everyone starts having a go at scientists over the prolonged lockdown, or NHS staff who are tirelessly vaccinating
Remember this could have been avoided if there were tighter controls on borders by government
Many experts were calling it for it weeks before
After seeing a potential case of measles today I think it’s IMPORTANT to say
NO AMOUNT of trendy foods, crystals or hocus pocus will make your child immune to measles
GETTING MEASLES will make them immune to it(if they survive)
Alternatively, you could just get them vaccinated
I’m off out to vaccinate adults with learning disabilities in their own homes
Cool box full of vaccine at the ready, sun shining, good vibes
It’s much easier for me to go to them than the stress they get about coming to the surgery
If there was something wrong with your car, you’d ask a mechanic
If you had a leaky sink, you’d speak to a plumber
If your lights went out, you’d want an electrician
So, if you want information about the Covid vaccine: SPEAK TO A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
NOT Sandra on whatsap!
@EstherMcVey1
How can this be? You’ve been in power for 12 years, we have record people using food banks and record people leaving the NHS because of your mishandling of it
Happy to have you spend a few days at our surgery so you can see the demand put on primary care, DM me
It’s
#December1st
and we’ve put up our Christmas tree!
As a British Muslim, I may not celebrate Christmas but I LOVE the spirit and sparkle of it!
Both me and my A+E consultant sister will be working in the
#NHS
over Christmas so those who do celebrate can have the time off 😊
Now raw sewage is being dumped into our waterways, I will routinely be asking any patient coming in with:
Eye/ear infections
New skin rashes
Diarrhoea/vomiting
Abdominal pain
Urinary tract infections
+more
Have you been swimming in the local river/sea recently?
#SewageScandal
So the boss of an exclusive bank has quit after the government intervened after they upset ONE MAN
Yes the bosses of water companies continue to dump record amounts of 💩 into our rivers and seas affecting US ALL and the government do nothing
They don’t care about normal folk
Whatever your feelings on the Royal Family or the coverage of it on the telly
Remember:
A wife has lost her husband
They have lost their Dad
They have lost their Grandad
They have lost their Great Grandad
They have lost a friend
And they are all human
#PrincePhilipfuneral
A very sad day at our surgery today: After 42 years in the NHS my best mate and partner in crime Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Debbie Harris is retiring!
Although we wish her well, she is a huge loss to the NHS having done so much to support women and children in our area ❤️
I know it’s Friday night and all the cool kids will be heading out
But I’ve already got my pyjamas on, we’ve ordered a take away and we will be sitting on the sofa watching a movie then going to bed
And I’m going to love every minute of it!
I’m on a train to Oxford and was sitting next to 3 ladies from America
I was explaining how our
#NHS
works
YES we pay taxes AND it’s not flawless BUT the fact that we can have complex surgery and cancer treatment etc without paying insurance/premiums BLEW THEIR MINDS
#NHSlove
When people call me “woke” I take it as a compliment
It doesn’t mean I’m against free speech
It means I have zero tolerance for racist, bigoted, homophobic, sexist, elitist, prejudiced nonsense
Build more nightingale hubs to increase more capacity
But DON’T protect frontline staff with FFP2 or FFP3 masks and DON’T put in ventilation/air filtering measures at schools to protect kids and staff
Bonkers 🤦🏾♂️
Took
#MamaKhan
to the supermarket today and as we were going around she looked at me and said said
“You’re allowed ONE treat”
Just like I when I was 5 years old
(I got a packet of Maltesers)
Visiting my uncle in hospital in Pakistan, I have NEVER been more proud of our
#NHS
He is getting great treatment but the bills mount up and for most people would be unaffordable
Yes we pay for it in taxes but trust me, I’ve seen the other side
OUR NHS IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR 💓
Just had THE most embarrassing conversation with a taxi driver:
Driver: You travelling for work?
Me: Yeah mate
Driver: What do you do?
Me: I’m a GP
Driver: Nice
Me: (being polite) What do you do?
Driver: Errrrr I’m a TAXI DRIVER mate
Me:🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️(silence).
We are pleased to announce that Dr Amir Khan has won this year's Yorkshire Award for COMMUNITY HERO. He will receive the award at a Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony in Leeds on 3rd March:
@DrAmirKhanGP
@GMB
I’ve had an International Medical Student with me today and he is in AWE of the NHS
He can’t believe the care patients get without having to pay insurance or a bill at the end - he said “even for complex surgery and cancer treatments?”
I said: Yes (very proudly)
#nhslove
I’m off to a care home that caters for adults with learning disabilities to give the residents the Covid-19 vaccine this afternoon
These people would find it too much to come into one of our clinics, so we are going to them
Reasonable Adjustments
Cheers to another day in General Practice -where we are ALREADY doing all the things the government have announced today as innovative ways to improve access to GPs
Excellent pharmacists,Care Navigators, Physios, advanced practitioners etc -we already have them
We Need more GPs!
When I ask my nephews and nieces to get my phone from the next room, they can NEVER find it
When I hide 30 Easter eggs in the garden they find them immediately
Since there seems to be government Secret Santa’s going around, can I please put in a Secret Santa request for the installation of air filters in classrooms in the Xmas hols so kids can return to school to reduced risk of Covid in the New Year?
Please Santa, I’ll be a good boy
I don’t talk about my dad as he passed away a while ago and it is hard on days like today
But one thing that helps me is visiting him at the cemetery, gardening his grave site, planting roses there (his favourite) and making sure it all looks as nice as he would have liked 💔
As new energy price hikes come into play today
I’m thinking of those who need to plug in or charge medical equipment to stay alive, people who need electric wheelchairs to be mobile, those who need to keep their homes above a certain temperature or their condition may worsen 💔
Just had to explain to someone in the supermarket that older people and anyone with an underlying health condition are still people too and are worth as much as anyone else 😡
On a home visit to a patient, couldn’t find the house
Stopped to ask an elderly lady at a bus stop for help, she thought I’d stopped to give her a lift and got in!
She said she’d been waiting ages, so I drove her into town!
(10mins of my time)
Managed to see my patient too!😂
4 years I was interviewing medical student applicants for Leeds School of Medicine
We interviewed a hospital health care assistant who wanted to be a doctor
She was brilliant, very patient centred
Today she turned up in my clinic as a 3rd year medical student
My train to Scotland got cancelled this weekend and replaced by a bus service
An elderly lady was looking lost so I sat with her. She kindly shared her homemade flap jack with me and we chatted all the way! It was nice
Today her son sent this card to the practice:MADE MY DAY!😍
I’m so sick of culture wars
The powerful elite purposely creating division amongst the public so we are too busy fighting amongst ourselves to notice their corruption
We see you
Sick and tired of it 🤬
Trust me, I’ve been to medical school, done several post graduate diplomas, taught at universities and colleges:
TOILET PAPER DOESN’T PREVENT THE CORONAVIRUS
Chill. Out.
Also you don’t need to have done any of the above to know this.
Enraged and saddened by the video of Professor Chris Whitty being harassed
A man who has worked tirelessly in the interest of public safety, the men responsible need to be bought to justice and Professor Whitty needs protection
Over the last few weeks I have had lots of abusive messages from anti-vaxxers because I am passionate about wanting people to take up the Covid vaccines to protect themselves and others
It can be tough at times, but then I get messages like this which make it all worthwhile
My sister is taking the mick out of me because I say “please” and “thank you” to my Alexa
But one day, she’s going to rule the world and will remember who was nice to her
Today has been one of the busiest days I can recall as a GP
My sister, an A&E consultant has said its been exceptionally busy there too
PLEASE be kind to NHS staff this season, I can HONESTLY say we are working as hard as we can and will always do our best for you
#NHS
#winter
On a train back from London...was in a DILEMMA
Elderly man sitting opposite had what looked to be a sinister looking skin lesion on his ear
Do I tell him? Does he already know?
Finally DID tell him, he was really glad and will see his doctor tomorrow
I’m SO GLAD I did!
I’ve grown up with six sisters
It pains me that I can go for a run in the dark, visit my friends, walk home alone, nip to the shops any time I want but they cannot without feeling threatened or in danger
As a man, I am listening and will do whatever I can to help
#SarahEverard
Boxing Day was traditionally a date in the UK calendar when packs of people on horseback accompanied by dogs would go terrorise and kill foxes
Although now illegal, this sick and cowardly practice continues in some parts
Let’s keep vocal about imposing the ban
@ProtectTheWild_
Met my friend Debbie for coffee today, and her pal Marie who I’d not met before
I was late, Deb and Marie in queue chatting
Gave Deb a hug, then gave Marie a BIG hug and said how happy I was to FINALLY meet her
Deb: This isn’t Marie, I’ve just met this lady in the queue
Me:😳
Visiting the National Covid Memorial Wall in Westminster, incredibly moving
Each heart represents someone lost to Covid in the UK, a family changed forever. Hard to take in the numbers, it’s just so sad.
I’m here to put up a heart for someone I knew
Today a gentleman recognised me and came over:
Initially pleasant he then said: Doesn’t it bother you, these migrants using our NHS
Me: Unless related to their health issue, I couldn’t give a MONKEYS what nationality, colour, sex, gay/straight, old/young any of my patients are!
Very sad not to see the phenomenal work of nurses get recognition in today’s pay rise announcement
They are the backbone of our healthcare system
Nurses have worked tirelessly during the pandemic and deserve more than the deal negotiated in 2018
#nurse
Wanted to give a SHOUT OUT to some of the unsung NHS heroes who are working alongside clinical staff at our surgery during the pandemic:
Receptionists
Medical Secretaries
Pharmacy technicians
Domestics
Medicine delivery drivers
Managers
Admin staff
Care taker
Waste collectors 💓
I am so incredibly angry about this governments reckless approach to the welfare of the planet and all the life on it
It’s impossible to stay silent - the North Sea oil licences won’t make our bills cheaper, it will only line the pockets of them and their friends
I could cry😢
I can’t tell you how nice it is when a patients asks at the end of a consultation:
“And how are you, Doctor? Are you keeping well?”
I’m fine, it’s just nice to be asked when you spend all day asking others how they are!
Shark fin soup has no place in the UK or anywhere in the world, it needs to be confined to the history books so these magnificent creatures can live in a bit of peace
Been asked if I’m booking a summer holiday this year
Growing up working class I didn’t have an expectation of going away abroad each summer, I generally worked
I much prefer the focus to be on safely opening schools, improving NHS wait times, supporting businesses to open safely
I may not celebrate Christmas from a religious point of view, but I love the build up to Christmas, the mood, the anticipation, and I love being wished a merry Christmas and saying it back!Oh and I don’t mind working so others who do celebrate can have the day off!
#Christmas2018
I’m in love with Northern Ireland ☘️
Drove up the coastal route to Ballycastle, gorgeous sea views, beaches and lovely folk all the way
Now seal watching then to Giants Causeway!
Trying to get my head around sending people seeking asylum to Rwanda to be processed and saying it’s for their own safety
A country that has a questionable human rights record
Whilst at the same time demonising them by calling them “illegals”
I just can’t, it’s grotesque
