Dual-trained vascular neurosurgeon

, husband, father, runner, former resident at The Ohio State University & fellow at Semmes Murphey Clinic
This is my grandpa (David Dornbos Sr), who just had a basilar artery occlusion 2 days ago. To say that we are blessed would be an understatement! God is good!!
MMA embo beware. We always talk about ophthalmic collaterals off the MMA, but not everyday you get to see them this clearly. Large orbital branch off the prox MMA giving full supply to the OA (no ophthalmic off the ICA)

@YoungNIR
Excited to announce the Dornbos Lab is hiring! We have multiple clinical and translational projects ongoing & many publications to come. Fully funded post-doctoral position. If interested, please DM me for more details or apply:

17 years of training, 4 universities, >3200 surgeries, 1.4B beans of coffee, & 1 person by my side for 14 years. All the education and training to not get to the finish line, but to prepare for the starting line. Thankful to have you by my side for this next race too!
That’s a wrap! 7 years of deep friendships and unforgettable experiences. Blessed to have gone through this season of life with wonderful people
@OSUWexMed
. For time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship. Thanks guys, it’s been a helluva ride!

Honored to be awarded the
@SNISinfo
Young Investigator Research Grant! Exciting times
@uk_neurosurgery
! Time to find new ways to improve care for our stroke patients! Special thanks to
@ShivaniPahwa3
for snagging the check. Best of luck fitting that in your carryon 😜
TICI 6! Right A1 occlusion, chronic L ICA occlusion, no help from the PCOMM, good collaterals and only presented with aphasia ... single pass ADAPT. Doesn't always work out this way, but real slick when it does.
Down she goes! Been a good ride ... 3 years med school, 7 years residency, and almost all fellowship. Thankful to be perfectly fine and on call for trauma, but not one myself. Also a little annoyed with the guy that rear ended me and then literally ran away on foot
#blessed
Missed the OSU game today. R M1 occlusion, NIHSS 10 rolls in at end of 1st quarter. ADAPT technique, thrombus rolls right down tubing, patient improves on table to NIHSS 0. Don’t always work that way, but I’d give up any game to see the joy on that patients face!

Crazy stat: 1945 - only 5% of medical school enrollment was comprised of women
Equally crazy stat: 2020 - only 11% of academic neurosurgeons are women
We've made a lot of progress, but there's a long way to go. Very thankful for a phenomenal discussion tonight!
😂 I love it! My favorite comedian with a little segment on the greatest of all specialties 😉 Also a reminder to take a minute and enjoy life around you amidst the chaos
Grateful and excited to have been elected as Vice Chair of the AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee! Looking forward to a couple more years of serving and working with this fantastic group of people

Away subi’s are the best way to really see a program, and the only thing that matters in residency is case volume & culture. One of the highest volumes in the country & an unmatched community

The time is now! Looking forward to getting out to LA for

@uk_neurosurgery
One week into the new job & I’m on track for 680 cases this year. Suffice it to say I don’t foresee volume being a problem. Oh yea… and I love it here

You’ve heard the cliché, “It’s not brain surgery.” But for
@DornbosIII_MD
, it is. Meet this extraordinary UK HealthCare neurosurgeon and learn how he and the team at our Comprehensive Stroke Center helped save the life of a 25-year-old musician.
Many thanks to Dr. Q for sharing his life journey and wisdom with all of us this evening! Was an inspiration for all of us, and

gained a lot of new mentees in the process!!

In our latest Extraordinary People story, learn how an expert team at Kentucky Neuroscience Institute helped set a young mother on the path to a seizure-free future.
My 3&5 yo daughters just watched a full surgical video, asking tons of questions. At the end ...

No question in her mind she can if she wants to ✊👊, also 😂

There's nothing quite like reviewing

med student fellowship applications & feeling some serious

in regard to how brilliant these students are. There are so many stars about to join the

ranks!
Neurosurgeon: I’m sorry, you have a brain tumor. You need a craniotomy.
Every patient: No details! Just do what you need to do.
Expert ID MD: I need you to stay home & practice reasonable hygiene.
America: Nah ... my cousin showed me this thing. I’m not doing that, sounds fake
“Mistakes happen, just learn to make different mistakes tomorrow.”
A phrase I often tell my residents, that’s much easier to pass out than to swallow.
Complications happen unless you don’t operate or are lying, but man, does it eat at your soul
Great turnout for the 6th annual How to Apply to Residency practical clinic! High yield tips for students interested in the greatest profession that exists. Thx

4D DSA is legit! The ability to toggle between 3D arterial and venous phases beautifully lays out the arterial feeders & venous drainage of AVMs. Very helpful in getting patients treated!

As a first year attending, never has this resounded more true. The surgery is the easy part. 90% of the stress & mental work goes into the decision making & entering that sacred surgeon-patient relationship

Rounding on patients for the first time in the new year, my first patient led off with, ”You look pretty.” She may be a little delirious after a ruptured aneurysm, but I’m taking that as a good omen for 2023

Thanks for having me! Much has changed, but glad to be back in my old stomping grounds for a day. Reconnecting with phenomenal friends and mentors, speaking about lessons learned in my ridiculously short career, and seeing the tremendous work being done
@NeurosurgeryOSU
So great having one of our recent grads
@DornbosIII_MD
from
