Even in a 1.5°C scenario with the most extreme levels of CO₂ removal (green), CO₂ emissions decline ~90% at the time of net-zero CO₂ emissions. It is not possible to offset your way out of the climate problem: deep emission reductions are essential.

The top 1% emits more than 2/3rd of the global population, or 5 BILLION ppl. If they just halve their emissions - for which who else if not them - global emissions would plummet, without touching the poorer 2/3rd. Why do we never talk about this?

I cried out a few times for help from other climate scientists - then silence. Now i see @KHayhoe is also suffering from the same troll/bot attacks. Any other climate scientists...? What can we do? Blocking not an option due to their numbers...

As a female climate scientist, blocking is the only thing that makes my engagement here on Twitter/X possible. Daily, I receive comments that range from disparaging to downright vile. Since Oct, my tweets can attract thousands of trolls (real people) and bots (not real). 🧵

In the era of #HeatWaves , #droughts , keeping the little precipitation we get &turn it into soil moisture to help trees cool cities & to refill groundwater reservoirs, we need to minimise #concrete urban surfaces &replace them by those allowing for natural soils

@lukasjschreiber @GlobalEcoGuy But these values are just based on PROMISES, and implementation towards these promises is nowhere. We are just reopening tons of coal mines and power plans in Europe... Not sure what this optimism is based on

It is really impressive that more&more @IPCC_CH delegations are walking the talk and either joining remote meetings only online, or taking the train. For the 60th sessioj of IPCC, for instance the Belgian delegation took the train, even if it lasted 2.5 days! @JPvanYpersele

The pandemic is affording us many opportunities to fast-forward sustainable transformations that would have been very hard in its absence. Rethinking aviation is surely one of those. "French lawmakers approve a ban on short domestic flights (<2.5 hrs)"

It is great to see young, brave, bold female icons who attack our inexcusable inertia &irresponsibility, without getting scared of the hatred and powers trying to denying or stopping them. I hope they replace commercially pushed consumption idols for many girls and inspire them.
