For all new
#GodotEngine
users, this github issue has a long list of useful tips and tricks in the engine that you probably don't know about. Take a second to skim through it! Link below. 👇
Reminder that in
#GodotEngine
you can autoload scenes, not just scripts. Typically I use a scene singleton for playing music and handling transitions between other scenes.
Super happy to see this small UX upgrade in
#GodotEngine
! When you CTRL-Drop a scene on an empty script line, it will automatically create the constant for you.
Been getting a lot of questions about the rails shooter I made for my last
#GodotEngine
video. I've refined the systems a bit and I'm debating making a "make this game in X minutes" video. Any interest in that?
#GodotEngine
4 enthusiasts, there's a very easy process (ENet/UPnP) for creating online multiplayer prototypes that you can play with your friends. I made my first one yesterday and it was a lot of fun!
Would anyone be interested in a video tutorial of the entire process?
My

4 Dungeon Environment tutorial is out now on YouTube! If you want to learn how to make environments like this, grab the link in the replies. 👇
Another
#GodotEngine
tip: evaluate expressions in editor with ctrl + shift + e. I use this mostly with testing string formatting, curious if anybody uses it for anything else?
#GodotEngine
community: ya'll asked for it and tomorrow I'll be dropping my complete online multiplayer prototype tutorial. I'll show every step on how to make gooney games like this to play with your friends:
My
#GodotEngine
4 online multiplayer FPS prototype is now on GitHub! I'll be keeping it updated as any Godot 4 changes arise (alas, there was a syntax change immediately following release).
Very useful
#GodotEngine
tip: using the alt key with the AnimationPlayer timeline is useful when you want to navigate to a point in the timeline without activating it.
The
#GodotEngine
community has made it clear that these from scratch, multi-program tutorials are something we need more of. I've gained almost 600 subs in the last few weeks. We're just getting started with these, stay tuned. ✌️

Online Multiplayer FPS

tutorial dropping this weekend. I think my favorite step is when all the players spawn but they're all controlled by the server. Sound on. ;)
Alright, working on recording the new tutorial today where I'll go through creating this simple 4-tile gridmap and environment from scratch for
#GodotEngine
in under 30 minutes. Pic of the tiles in the replies 👇
My
#GodotEngine
UPnP Multiplayer FPS tutorial has reached over 100 stars on github! UPnP won't work for everyone, but it can be a great tool for making fast multiplayer prototypes. Link below if you'd like to check it out.
Today's
#GodotEngine
tip: in both 2d/3d if you select an object in the viewport and press F, the editor camera will center in on the objects position. Very useful in 3d particularly.
Interesting
#GodotEngine
tip: You can quick-set a 2D nodes pivot point with V. I used to always position my rotating 2D nodes in a parent node, then rotate the parent. That's not always needed, this method can save you some time.
1/3 - Almost ready to start recording the next
#GodotEngine
4 tutorial, this one will be completely focused on programming. I'll walk through creating a basic RPG inventory system, taking inspiration from Minecraft and Valheim.
Tomorrow! Joined by three very talented

Pumped that in
#GodotEngine
4 you can now open files in external programs right from the editor, just right click on the file and bask in the glory of the new option. I'll be using this for blend and png files a lot.
My
#GodotEngine
RPG inventory from scratch tutorial will easily be the densest video I've made yet. I'm trying to cut it up into mega-efficient 1-2 minute bites, and I've already recorded 19. I'm maybe halfway, hoping to finish this weekend. 🤞
For my next
#GodotEngine
from scratch tutorial, I'm thinking of doing a small forest-y scene. I can't tell if this breeze effect I made looks terrible or not lol.

It's easy to forget how big of a deal it is, making a powerful engine accessible to those who only have access to low end hardware. It shouldn't go without praise!
#GodotEngine
While using this on your cellphone is probably not the best ergonomics-wise (unless you have Dex or similar), you have to realize there are _plenty_ of cheap Android tablets with keyboard/mouse you can buy from as low as 100 Eur to do gamedev on-the-go or teach.
Random
#GodotEngine
tip: when navigating an AnimationPlayer timeline, you can hold shift to snap to 1/4 of your snap interval. Not always necessary to manually change the snap increment.
A
#GodotEngine
3D tip: I went months without realizing there's two unique methods of 3D viewport navigation. One MMB based, the other RMB based. I'm curious which method people use more? 👀
New
#GodotEngine
environment from scratch tutorial is recorded. Entire process clocked in under 30 minutes though! Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for release. 👀

Weird
#GodotEngine
tip: if you shift drop a node with a transform into another parent in the scene tree, it will apply the new parent(s) transforms (that means rot and scale as well!)
dropping normally does not adjust these.
Going to be putting out a massive

WIP for the new

from scratch environment tutorial. Going to be tough to get this one in under 30 minutes but I think I can do it. 🙏

Handy
#GodotEngine
tip, especially for multi-monitor users: you can customize the monitor/position your game window will appear when running from the editor.
The KayKit

are now available directly in

(4.1+) 🥳
Using them could not be simpler, you just open the library and download them 😌
They're free to use for whatever, go make something cool and show me :D

Just released my third person character from scratch video tutorial on YouTube, hope some will find it useful when trying to learn the

workflow.
Enjoying this fun little ps1 project. Would anyone be interested in a from-scratch

#Blender
tutorial for making similar environments for your game?
@digieastman
Overly simple explanation: vertex shaders can control positions, fragment shaders can control colors. This uses a vertex shader to push the grass around based on the capsule location, and the fragment shader swaps out two face textures also depending on that location.
Pleasantly surprised by how well received my character tutorial has been! Over 300% sub growth (not that I had many lol). 😅 Currently working on a smaller, supplementary video of quick tips, then I'll be making more "from scratch" tutorials like this for
#GodotEngine
.
Good lord, I finally have the entire process recorded for the next
#GodotEngine
4 environment from scratch tutorial. Took me long enough. Time to edit it, and release it tomorrow hopefully!
Yo 👋 here's a quick thread walking through a low rez environment texturing workflow I've used in my recent videos using free tools Krita, Laigter, and Blender. 🧵
This process can be useful regardless of your game engine

No more tweaking, just going to make this be the final product for the next tutorial. Mostly just some model tweaks and the addition of a sky texture. Time to finally start recording.

If anyone questions my commitment to the
#GodotEngine
community, let it be known that I spent the last two weekends recording the inventory system video with this cursed mic setup.
Can't believe I'm already halfway to what felt like an untouchable goal! The
#GodotEngine
community continues to surprise me with how much ya'll appreciate my educational content, thanks so much. :) Maybe I'll start working on a full course soon?
I really need to improve at modeling characters so I took a crack at a 256 tri

Think I finally have all the rules of chess accounted for in my little 3d project. Time to start wiring up a chess engine AI to play against. 👀

Thanks so much for 2K on YouTube! 🎉 I thought I'd celebrate by finally adding a banner to the channel but uh... Anyway, easy

Currently rolling into Sweden for the first time. As a game dev tutorial maker, this GMTK line came to mind. Maybe being here will make my next
