On my last trip to Japan, I finally bought used set of Candy Candy manga at @mandarake in Osaka. This was my manga gateway drug. It'll likely never, ever be published in English (because of a dispute between the artist and author) so this is the only way to get it now.

One thing I miss about going to Japan and buying used manga is that you can sometimes buy a whole set as a big wrapped up BRICK O' MANGA for one price. One day, I'll cough up the ¥¥ to buy Candy Candy.

Another classic shojo manga mentioned in Manga! Manga! that I'd love to read in English is Fire! by Hideko Mizuno. Set in the world of US 1960s-70's rock music, Fire! was recently reissued in Japanese as 2 volumes. This one's my copy that I bought at a used bookstore years ago

Well, I think at least a greatest hits collection of Fujio Akatsuka's gag manga is overdue in English. There's bilingual editions of Tensai Bakabon and Osomatsu-kun, but the wildly over-the-top mayhem of his best work isn't fully appreciated overseas.

Another of my "most wanted but I thought it'd never come out in English" manga series recently got picked up by @lastgaspbooks - Ultra Heaven by Keiichi Koike is the ONLY sci-fi manga about taking acid you'll ever need. I promise, this is worth the wait.

I flew to Akita Prefecture to see the exhibit of Tsurukichi Sanpei (Fisherman Sanpei) manga at the Yokote Masuda @m_mangamuseum last year and was blown away by Takao Yaguchi’s original art. Unfortunately, an english edition is pretty unlikely. :-/

One more for the "I wish" manga list -- Fantasy World Jun by Shotaro Ishinomori. This is mostly wordless, experimental comics by the creator of Kamen Rider, so it almost needs no translation at all. It's his 'art house'/experimental indie comix and they're gorgeous.

I finished Sensei’s Pious Lie Vol 1 last night and @BEANQUeenie_ was right. It is very difficult to digest but it might just have a genuinely good story underneath all that violence. The power struggle between victim and aggressor is portrayed so well. Read with caution.
