Entertainment Reporter/Critic, "Dean Cooks", WGN-TV and national cable channel, WGN America. Host, Dean Richards' Sunday Morning 9a-1p/central) WGN Radio 720AM
I’m so sad to report the death of former WGN TV anchor, Allison Payne in her hometown of Detroit.
She co-anchored WGN News for 21 years earning 9 Emmys. Allison suffered a series of health issues although a cause of death has not been released. She was 57. RIP my friend.
My Mom, Angeline, died yesterday at Evanston Hospital after a long battle with dementia and heart issues.
She worked hard all of her life caring for her four sons, at the same time, working full time and always cooking and baking, which was her passion.
She was 97.
I know she lived a very long, well lived life but I will miss her greatly. Thank you
#bettywhite
for decades of entertainment and your kind friendship.
June is Alzheimers Awareness month. Here's to a cure, to the people living with this devastating disease and their loving caretakers, family and friends.
#EndAlzheimers
I’m so sad to announce that my big brother, Bill, died yesterday after an 8-year battle with dementia.
Although the disease slowly whittled away at him, he maintained his life long love for cars; model cars, restoring classic cars, fixing and fiddling w them. He was 69.
Hi all,
On November 30th, I tested positive for the Covid.
I have no idea how it happened since I'm pretty strict about masks and distancing. Not enough, I guess.
I'm feeling much better now and will be back on radio on Sunday and TV on Monday. Dean
So sorry to hear about the passing of
@LinBrehmer
. An amazing talent and caring passionate human being.
Condolences to his family, to
@93XRT
and the rest of Chicago, who like me, loved the guy
Condolences to the family of Aniello "Red" Fontano, the founder of the legendary Fontanos Subs on Polk Street, since 1963. He died Sunday at the age of 92. He franchised these amazing sandwiches all over Chicago and the suburbs. A true Chicago original. RIP.
@WGNMorningNews
I'm posting this a little early because I suspect I'll be a mess on my first Mother's Day without my Mom. I miss her. I celebrate her incredible life and spirit. I thank you all for your kind words about her. Cherish your Moms!!
Today would have been my Mom's 101st birthday.
If she were here today, she would have called me several times to remind me to wear a hat in this weather.
It used to bug me, now I miss it.
I can’t believe Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman has died.
The 43 year old was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.
RIP. Wakanda Forever. Shocked.
That interview was right after the pandemic started when people were dying everyday. 2, maybe 3 years ago. Do your stupid complaining to a family whose relatives died. We proudly report facts. You clearly dont care about that.
@WGNNews
is telling its viewers to get their covid shot before gathering with family. I happened to catch it when I turned on the tv; haven’t watched since
@DeanRichards
interviewed
@BryanCranston
and all they could do was talk about how wearing a mask makes you a better human
Today would have been my brother, Bill's 70th birthday. It's the first one since he's passed away last year. One of his favorite places was his beloved Museum of Science & Industry.
We must have gone thousands of times through the years.
Marshall Brodien who played "Wizzo the Wizard" on
@WGNTV
's Bozo Show for 26 years, has died
He died after a long battle with Alzheimer's at Arden Courts of Geneva.
More on his amazing life and career, all morning on
@WGNMorningNews
A bittersweet day. Today would have been my Mom's 98th birthday...the first without her physically with us, but her memory lives on.
I'm sure she's on Heaven's social media.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
Very impressed w the care my brother is getting at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He’s being treated for pneumonia and is stable. Exceptional docs, nursed & staff. Thanks you!
That was the most beautiful "Memorial" segment I've ever seen on an award show. Bruno Mars paying tribute to Little Richard, Lionel Richie singing Kenny Rogers, Brandi Carlile honoring John Prine and Brittney Howard & Chris Martin doing "You'll Never Walk Alone"....well done!
I loved the half time show. Mary J. Blige my favorite. 50 Cent a nice surprise. Still, nothing can compare to Prince’s half time show in 2007. Let the discussion commence…
A nice dinner tonight w family at
#Psistaria
Lincolnwood to honor my Mom. We even had her favorite dish there, pan fried smelts. We also stole the Splenda in her honor…
Thank you, Chicago for making us
#1
for 8 years in row!
(total households and among viewers between 25 and 54, with year-to-year increases every hour from 4 to 10 a.m.)
Thanks,
@RobertFeder
for the nice mention today.
The
@WGNNews
family has lost a long time colleague. Jim Ramsey said he was enjoying his time out of a suit, when he visited WGN a year after retirement. Jim was always a pro. I learned a lot while working beside him & enjoyed talking college football & music of the 60s with him.
I’m sad to learn of the death of a legendary Chicago children’s show host, Bill Jackson. BJ & the Dirty Dragon and Gigglesnort Hotel were mainstays on many Chicago TV stations including
@WGNTV
.
I’m told he was in the hospital with COVID last week but released. He was 86.
I'm sad to report the death of the great Dr. Lester Fisher, director of the
@lincolnparkzoo
for 30 years...and long time guest on
@WGNTV
's Ray Rayner & Bozo shows.
Earlier this year we visited at Lincoln Park Zoo just after his 100th birthday.
Thank you, again!!
In addition to 7 years of being the
#1
morning show in Chicago (beating GMA & Today, often combined, leaving local competitors in the dust), today we learned that was the
#1
local broadcasting TV website and app combo in America, again
You may have seen or heard my 95 year old Mom on
@WGNTV
or
@WGNRadio
. Today, she had a lumpectomy to remove a malignant tumor making it thru w flying colors.
Thanks to everyone at
@RushMedical
Center's Breast Center for their expertise & compassion.
I am done w
@DoorDash
@DoorDash_Help
.
Worst, most condescending customer service after a disgusting issue with a food delivery. I've overlooked sloppy, bad delivery over and over. I'm finished w them. Shop ANY PLACE else.
Earlier, I posted a polite message about the the death of Bobby Hull. I met him many times and he was a gentleman. I’ve since learned from many of you about other aspects of his life that I deplore. I’ve removed my original post and stand corrected. Thanks.
To honor my Mom, Ann (Kula) who passed away last week at age 97, I dedicated my cooking segment this week to her by preparing her favorite dish, Pastitsio (Greek Lasagna)...& by showing old clips of her on

Someone turn off the obit machine.
Now, we’re learning that Pat Brickhouse, the wife of
@WGNTV
broadcasting legend, Jack Brickhouse has died today in Arizona. She was a spark plug of a character and lit up every room.
One year ago today, my Mom's long battle with dementia and Alzheimer's ended.
We miss her but a million wonderful memories keep us going. Her love and strong work ethic lives on through her sons, daughter in law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
RIP to one of my first radio idols,
@DickBiondi
. He died June 26th at age 90 after decades of entertaining Chicago.
Robert Feder provides the best coverage of his life and impact.
@WGNTV
@WGNMorningNews
@WGNRadio
I’m shocked and saddened by new of the death of NBC’s Dick Johnson. A great reporter and anchor and even better human being.
Condolences to his family.

RIP Fred Willard.
He was nominated 4 times for Emmy Awards (3x Everybody Loves Raymond & 1x Modern Family), started at Second City in the 60s...and was amazing in This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind & For Your Consideration.
He was 86.
Condolences to one of our own.
Producer, Jeff Hoover from WGN Morning News lost his Mom this morning. Join me in sending our love and thoughts to him and his family.
