ISIS had executed 3 Assyrians on video and promised the rest would follow. What these bureaucracies call "funding terrorism", we also call saving entire families. Who remembers those 3 Assyrian martyrs? The UK doesn't. Nobody was interested in helping us, so we helped ourselves.

The intricate vessel tells an amazing story from the Assyrian era. Used in offering ceremonies to the gods, the windows symbolize the temple and the city walls, the eyes defend against evil and the bull symbolizes fertility. #Turkey #MardinMuseum #MuseumFromHome

The genocide against Assyrians was so successful, it created a world order where not only was our population decimated while those of our brutalisers simultaneously boosted through mass abduction and rape, it erased the very idea that we could have rights anywhere, at any time.

For e.g, the Christian population in Baghdad has declined tenfold since 2003. And its declining everywhere else in the region too. I don't care if this upsets people. Kicking us out *then* using our symbols to brag about being tolerant of us creates a sad correlation.

Ah yes, those "racist" Assyrians--the ones whose families are scattered across the world having endured displacement and genocide with no recompense or resettlement--being called racist by people who use our dead bodies as fertilizer; by people who flourish where we fall.

August 7th is Assyrian Martyrs Day. I wrote this two years ago about the still unrecognised massacre of thousands of Assyrian men, women and children at Simele, Iraq by the Iraqi Army and Kurdish tribes in 1933, and the role of the UK in these events.

An Assyrian nurse named Bianca working in an Iran ICU records message in Assyrian, advising people to stay indoors, look after each other. She asks people not to worry about her, that we will get through these dark days and then celebrate together. So brave and selfless #COVID19

An emboldened Azerbaijan makes moves into Armenian territory and starts killing Armenians, various MPs, NGOs and analysts will look on and shrug, pointing to the complexity of the conflict. Rinse and repeat until there is nothing left.

Old women from depopulated Christian areas in Turkey/nearby with these kind of tattoos were often young girls abducted by Turks & Kurds during the genocide. Contextually, crosses often symbolized their origins as a Christian, whilst the crescent asserted Turkish/Muslim ownership.

Many Christian doctors in the Ottoman Empire were torn away from their families (who were deported and slaughtered) and then forced to treat wounded Turkish soldiers. In one account, one of the surviving doctors had said "they did not kill me because I could heal them".

People are still buying and selling Assyrian heritage for millions of dollars whilst Assyrians today live in half-destroyed towns with no electricity or clean water.

Strictly an Assyrian and Yazidi filter: Never forget that almost 6 years after the onslaught of ISIS against our communities in Nineveh, almost nobody outside of our own communities has normalised the fact that the KDP peshmerga disarmed and abandoned our people to genocide.

This story originates from a Sept 2019 Rudaw article and it's receiving renewed attention now because they reposted it. A Chaldean Assyrian woman from the historically Assyrian town of Shaqlawa is described as a "Christian from Kurdistan" - erasure dressed up as "coexistence."

There is nothing disputed about places like Alqosh. The town has literally zero Kurds living in it, yet its "disputed" by the KRG--?

Regarding Assyrians, everyone recalls the ISIS years and the media frenzy that came with it. What many people have seemingly forgotten is the full decade of relentless violence that preceded it. This history will be told one day, along with all of its ongoing policy failures.

Turks are being whipped up into a frenzy by their leaders. They exterminated almost all Christians from Turkey, 19% (1914) to 0.2% (2005), so apart from shouting at old buildings long emptied of Christians, how will this kind of thirst for blood be quenched? Outside its borders.
