Like Sammy Wilson I was also in Islandmagee today and had a lovely ice cream from
@TheRinkha
. I respected the staff and other customers enough to wear a mask. Then I went outside took the mask off and ate the ice cream - simple really !

I would strongly encourage people not to attend the protest organised tonight in Carrickfergus against the presence of asylum seekers in the town. Such a protest will no doubt be very frightening and intimidating for this vulnerable group.

Hi
@StephenNolan
- I don't want my children to hear such disgusting homophobic views could I ask that in future interviews with Jim Wells are broadcast after the watershed.
Left - owner is threatened with prosecution and fine if Irish language sign rail on is not removed.
Right - masked gunman sign has been allowed to remain up for more than 3 years despite complaints to the police.

Just finished a shift at an incredibly busy A&E dept. The pressure was intense and unrelenting. The staff say they have never seen it as bad as this. The sister asked me to share the experience with the health committee. Regrettably I can’t as there isn’t one.

Thugs have just firebombed a bus in broad daylight in Belfast and the First Minister can’t condemn it without calling Sinn Fein ‘the real law breakers’
#Disgusting
This is not protest. This is vandalism and attempted murder. These actions do not represent unionism or loyalism. They are an embarrassment to Northern Ireland and only serve to take the focus off the real law breakers in Sinn Fein.
My thoughts are with the bus driver.
Hats off to the writer of

that final scene perfectly captured the sickening horror of when the violence of the troubles crashed into normal life in NI. Really hammered home why we must do all we can to protect our fragile peace.
The Good Friday Agreement was voted for by the majority of the people of NI. It is the basis for our peace and our political institutions. It cannot be dismantled by anyone especially by those who never supported it in the first place and have opposed it ever since.
An MP from any other party anywhere else in the U.K. would have had to resign immediately for such an appalling comment (even UKIP). This shows once again that the DUP are completely out of step with modern British values.
17 years working in hospitals in NI never once had a ‘quiet drink in the staff room after a long shift’. These people are completely removed from reality.
"I don't think at any time he thought he was breaking the law... he thought just like many teachers and nurses who after a very long shift would go back to the staff room and have a quiet drink"
Tory MP Michael Fabricant urges Boris Johnson to apologise
This sort of comment referring to wearing of masks that protect people from catching coronavirus as being ‘muzzled’ is disgusting and shows disdain for the 80,000 people in NI who were shielding up until today. Terrible example from a public representative.
#WearAMask
Not to detract from the huge offence that the DFM and SF reps attending a mass funeral was to many families across NI but if Arlene Foster really cared about people breaking Covid restrictions she would have sacked Sammy Wilson long ago.
Hark the dirty fingered poke
Enough to make us effing boke

In NI in 2020 the deputy editor of a regional Newspaper is on
@BBCTalkback
complaining that there are too many people wearing GAA tops at Queens University ! Ridiculous.
It’s well known that we have different names for this place and for that city. Call them what you want but don’t push others to use your preferred names.
Let me get this right Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters have started a campaign to
#BoycottTheGuardian
- the only left-ish serious newspaper in the UK at the same time as he’s claiming Labour are ‘the new centre ground’ and calling for a general election ? Are they mad ?
The penny drops. This is why supporting leaving the EU was such an unbelievably short-sighted position for a Unionist party to take. The DUP were the biggest cheerleaders for Brexit in NI and they are absolutely to blame for it’s consequences.
.
@eastantrimmp
asks the Prime Minister to explain, “how Northern Ireland can remain a full part of the United Kingdom if people coming from the rest of the UK into Northern Ireland have to pass through a border control post?”.
In any other constituency in the UK this recall petition wouldn’t have been necessary - the disgraced MP would have resigned in shame or been sacked by their party leader. Not so in the DUP.
The comments from clearly biased commentator
@RuthDE
about the Irish election in today’s
@BelTel
are disgusting. Political discourse can be robust and bruising but resorting to hysterically comparing people you disagree with to the Nazis is just pathetic.
#WiseUp
It is such an honour to have been elected to represent the people of East Antrim in the next NI Assembly. Thanks so much to everyone who voted for us and / or helped our campaign! We won’t let you down!
‘It is wrong, in my opinion, in a democracy that one party, maybe representing 25% of the people, is able to veto the establishment of a government. That is not democracy.’ Jeffrey Donaldson.
Seven tests set by a party that came 2nd in the most recent election with 21% of the vote is deciding the future of devolution in NI. This is nowhere near democratic. We need to reform our political institutions to ensure they deliver stability not and on/off government.

Sammy Wilson travelling to Portrush 3 days after being in London for the Brexit vote isn’t a one-off it’s the latest example of a long pattern of irresponsible behaviour including mocking scientific advice & not wearing a face mask when required.
#EastAntrimDeservesABetterMP
I was disgusted to see this graffiti which has appeared at Larne Harbour threatening staff working at the ‘border post’. Regardless of your opinion on the Irish Sea border threats against people who work there are totally unacceptable and should be condemned by all.
Mrs May you did a deal with the fanatical, homophobic, anti-Irish, climate change deniers in the DUP who are pushing for a hard Brexit despite the wishes of NI voters, businesses and farmers. You are most certainly

Recently canvassing for Alliance during the by-election in Carrickfergus I was told by a voter that she liked what we stood for but had to vote DUP to keep SF out. SF weren’t standing in the by-election.
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson citing travel advice about crossing the border between NI and ROI to explain why he hasn’t isolated after being spotted out for a walk in Portrush when he was in Westminster in London just 3 days ago.
I’m shocked but not surprised to see DUP MP Sammy Wilson posing with anti-lockdown protesters (one of them advertising a ‘Covid is a hoax’ website). This is a real slap in the face to local victims of this terrible virus.
The political party that won’t meet the leader of the Catholic Church but is quite happy to meet leaders of loyalist paramilitary group.
#IntroducingTheDUP
Whatever DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson says today or tomorrow this is what he said in 2019 after Sinn Fein pulled down the Assembly -
‘It is wrong to blackmail an entire community and say that you cannot have a government until we get our way.’
This is insane. We literally don’t have a government in NI because the DUP refuses to ‘recognise’ and ‘accept’ that the Irish language deserves the same level of protection that Scots Gaelic & Welsh get in Britain.
The key to building a better Northern Ireland, a brighter future for all who live here is to recognise our differences & in accepting those, work together. We won’t always agree on everything. Many wish to deny achievements of DUP - so be it. We will continue to deliver for all
So the DUP’s ‘ingenious’ solution to the Brexit border problem is a 15 billion pound bridge to Scotland, the like of which has never been built, that will somehow be paid for by someone else... ?
It’s literally unbelievable.
#Ridiculous
How can she ‘regret’ it when her own public reps are doing it ? The DUP MP for East Antrim was in Portrush on Saturday 50 miles away from his constituency just 3 days after being in London (tier 4) !
.
@DUPleader
says she “regrets” that people have not been staying at home, cites images she was sent of crowds in Portstewart and Portrush and that decisions ministers will take tonight are a result of people gathering together in large numbers over Christmas
Nationalists not welcome in ‘unionist towns’ according to Jim Wells. But somehow it’s still ok for him to go to DUBLIN to campaign to keep the 8th amendment to the IRISH constitution ! The irony meter is of the chart. Jim is an utter hypocrite.
As a nurse I wear a mask for most of a 12 hour shift at work. From today it’s mandatory to wear face coverings in shops (if you can). This is a minor imposition that could help prevent someone vulnerable in your community catching coronavirus.
#WearAMask
My wife is a teacher in a special school and today she is in work like her colleagues unvaccinated. Special school staff carry out healthcare duties/interventions every day yet they have not been offered the same protections as healthcare staff. They need the vaccine too.
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has spent the pandemic ridiculing scientific advice, ignoring rules around mask wearing and attacking the Health Minister. He has been irresponsible, reckless and a bad example. He’s not an expert and shouldn’t be making these statements.
This is why there’s currently no Assembly in NI. ‘Brits out’ and ‘Ulster is British’ are both inflammatory, divisive slogans of the past. Why SF and DUP would display them at a University Freshers Fair in 2019 beyond me.
Very honoured to have been elected to represent the people of Larne Lough as an
@allianceparty
Cllr in the next Mid and East Antrim Council. Huge thanks to everyone that voted, supported and helped our campaign !
It’s depressing that ‘should the flags of illegal paramilitary groups that are illegally flying from lamp posts be taken down?’ is actually debated in NI.
Sammy Wilson MP tells
@Femi_Sorry
that’s he’s representing the view of East Antrim who voted to Leave the EU.
Why then do DUP MPs from areas that voted to Remain like Nigel Dodds, Emma Pengelly & Gregory Campbell continue to support Brexit?
#MakesNoSense
No doubt Ian Paisley will soon announce he has received a letter from Jesus Christ himself stating that after his return to earth he will be voting for the DUP !
I can’t believe the GAA shirts a Queens is still a thing! In Larne loads of people wear NI, Rangers & even Linfield football tops. Do I think they’re automatically all sectarian and want me to feel uncomfortable? No of course not. That would be nuts.
Disgusting unambiguous expression of support for the IRA to celebrate an winning a seat in an election. Utterly indefensible. No public representative should ever endorse a terrorist group. He should resign immediately.
I think it’s pretty clear to everyone in NI that you can’t do two full-time jobs at the same time when they require you to be in NI and London AT THE SAME TIME !

So it appears that
@Twitter
itself took the disgraced MP for North Antrim Ian Paisley’s account down for a posting a hugely offensive tweet - how did the DUP respond when Barry McElduff did something similar earlier this year ?
#DUPlicity
The fact that the DUP have abandoned devolved government in NI because of their inability to accept an Irish Language Act will further convince nationalists that a shared future isn’t possible in NI. Once again DUP’s behaviour will strengthen Nationalism.
I was appalled to read the comments of a fellow MEA Cllr about asylum seekers being temporarily housed in the area. These people have been through awful experiences and are legally entitled to claim asylum in the UK. We should be doing all we can to make them feel welcome here.
The DUP refuse to nominate a speaker preventing the formation of an executive and functioning Assembly and then point to the lack of an Executive and functioning Assembly as reasons to oppose the NI Protocol.
#NIProtocolBill
It’s no surprise that East Antrim DUP MP Sammy Wilson voted with the Conservative Party to restrict immigration but it’s a real slap in the face to all those workers from around the world who care for us and our loved ones in the health service and care homes across NI.
Reports of Anti Vaccine passport messages being promoted on multiple screens in

- this is undermining public health response to Covid and should be turned off ASAP.
The unbelievable hypocrisy of Jamie Bryson - enraged about Irish football fans flying what he thought was a flag with an masked IRA man (it was Munster crest) and now defending a NI fan waving an actual parachute regiment flag at a bus full of Irish supporters !

They campaigned against giving women in NI the same abortion rights as women in the rest of the U.K. They lost.
They campaigned for Brexit and won but ended up with a deal they did not want and accelerated the push for a unity referendum. So even when they won - they lost. 3/3
I’ve heard disturbing stories of pics posted online of some of the people staying in Carrickfergus while claiming asylum.
Please don’t do this - it’s not a nice thing to do & it could also be dangerous for their families in the country they have had to flee from.
#AsylumIsARight
I am very concerned to see that paramilitary flags have been erected for the first time outside a Catholic Church and Primary school in Larne. This is blatant sectarian intimidation. They should be removed. Police have been informed.
Republicans don’t want people to remember their sectarian murder campaign. They seek to justify their terror by dragging elderly veterans through the courts. We won’t let them re-write history.
Addressing Clyde Valley supporters tonight in a very wet Larne 👇🏻
Is that the DUP MP who was thrown out by his wife after being caught having an affair at an event discussing concerns about same sex marriage ? !
#YouCantBeSerious
Meeting with Church representatives in Portadown today to discuss concerns about abortion and same sex marriage. The DUP continues to fight for a functioning Assembly. Important that Churches have a voice on matters affecting here.
To recap - Ian Paisley MP who is currently being investigated for not declaring free luxury holidays he took in a country with an appalling human rights record is now also at the centre of a scandal where the local council paid £1500 into his party fundraiser!
#DinnerWithTheDUP
The Electoral Commission opens an investigation into money paid by Mid and East Antrim Council to sponsor a table at Ian Paisley's constituency dinner.
The DUP opposed the Good Friday Agreement, they dispute the terms of the St Andrews Agreement & backed out of an agreed deal on Irish language with SF (for some reason) at the very last minute last Feb.
They are the worst possible advisors on negotiations.
#DUPingNoOne
As we have always said, negotiations with the EU inevitably go down to the wire and the Government has been far too willing to capitulate before securing the necessary changes which would get an agreement through the House of Commons. 1/2

The subject of the song wasn’t a member of a terrorist organisation or even a political activist. She was a young Catholic woman who was brutally murdered on her honeymoon and yet it appeared that lots of people in that room knew the words of that sick song.
"They hammered & they hammered & they bate her about," the men in the Orange hall sing about a strangled woman. Nobody is seen to intervene, reprimand them, or ask them to leave. That's the most damning & depressing part of this whole horrible episode.
