Hi! I'm a philosopher. You might know me from such hits as "No, I don't have any sayings," "You must be thinking of psychology," "That would be begging the question" and its even more popular follow-up, "That's not what 'begging the question' means."

Philosofriends, Kate Manne ( @kate_manne ) is suffering severe online abuse from Jordan Peterson’s followers (threats of murder, calls for her to kill herself). Regardless of your views of their ideas, you agree, I’m sure, that this is not how to reply to criticism. (1/3)

Philosofriends, @christapeterso bravely discusses highly controversial issues here, doing so with intelligence, humor, & care, & she has bravely stood up for herself & others against more senior people in the philosophy profession (incl. me). She deserves our respect & support.

One of the hardest things for me was realizing that by and large philosophers just did not care if Leiter chased me out of the discipline.

Whether you agree with her ideas or not, Kate Manne ( @kate_manne ) is, in her intellectual rigor, her willingness to engage with the public, and her courage in the face of real threats, an example for all philosophers.

So to those who think they can intimidate me into silence by various means at their disposal, pls know that it simply won't work. To those who say, wrt to risks I do my very best to protect my students from, "But what was she tweeting/writing?", I reject & resent your question.

PSA: If you’re not impressed by today’s younger philosophers--so many of whom are incredibly insightful, creative, informed, and smart, not to mention awfully nice--then you’re not paying attention.

@GorinMoti Not naming Peterson seems in some ways worse: it deprives those unfamiliar w/ the case of info that would make it easier to discover the authors’ distortions, while providing the authors with moral cover (“at least we didn’t name her”) for slamming her in front of her colleagues.
