As someone supported by Mermaids for years, I've never seen anyone 'told' that they are "in the wrong body". I've never seen a child told that they may be trans for liking dresses or playing football. The criticism itself is grounded in not only transphobia but sexism. 1/

Just like almost every other family I've spoken to with a young trans child, we chose wrong. We said she* was perfect as she* was; That she* could be whatever child she* wanted to be (*in the gender assigned at birth). We thought this was a funny phase she would grow out of. 5/

Transgender kids are kids. Not a parenting choice, not politics, not ideology, not child abuse. Just children, living their lives, eating breakfast, going to school, playing in the park. My child didn't decide to be trans she just is. As parents we decided to love & support her.
