Pleased that there has been an Urgent Question granted in Parliament tomorrow on the subject of workers in aviation, following widespread concern among MPs about the behaviour of British Airways towards its workforce
From my inbox and other feedback, itβs clear constituents want to see
@RishiS4PM
as our new Prime Minister. Sound financial markets are key to supporting household finances, so I am pleased to be supporting my excellent colleague
@RishiSunak
to be our new leader.
Hugely honoured to be chosen by members as the candidate for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner. Now looking forward to the campaign and changing residentsβ lives for the better in parliament
Constituents in Hillingdon will be relieved to know the council is now officially Conservative run
@Hillingdon_Tory
. Fingers crossed for
@HAConservatives
whose count starts at 9am.
Horrifying that Mayor Khan has sent ULEZ cameras straight to Harefield to catch people visiting the hospital. So much for promising to consider the needs of vulnerable people
It is extraordinary that Sadiq Khan is now saying that those who adduce *the science* to object to ULEZ expansion are conspiracy theorists. Everybody with a non-compliant car in my part of Buckinghamshire will have to pay Β£12.50 to get to Harefield Hospital. It's an awful tax.
Off to Westminster to get to work. To-do list includes campaign against HS2, Heathrow expansion; and for capital investment in local NHS facilities, to start with. At least Met line working well this morning!
Made it to the finish line, having been overtaken by a Gruffalo and a man carrying a fridge. Despite that a great London occasion and lovely to see many parliamentary colleagues of all parties on the course
Useful catchup with
@BorisJohnson
in parliament this evening when we discussed the new Hillingdon hospital and the excellent work of
@Hillingdon_Tory
for our constituents. Amid the questions needing an answer, we also need to make progress for residents.
Useful catch up with
@Councillorsuzie
this morning. Great to see her campaign getting a flying start as she tackles the London wide issues affecting our constituents
Shocking feedback from local farmers about the conduct of HS2. Failing to pay agreed costs and causing huge distress. Will be taking these issues up with ministers
Constituents who have emailed Re DC can rest assured I have conveyed the strength of local feeling to relevant colleagues. Personal replies to follow in due course. We remain focussed on helping those needing assistance with furlough, shielding and business support here in RNP.
Tonight I attended my last cabinet as Deputy Leader of Hillingdon. The
@Hillingdon_Tory
budget shows a council and borough in good shape for the future and in good hands.
Thanks to all the local anti HS2 campaigners for your input since I was elected your MP five weeks ago. We are not NIMBYs, this is not a strong business case for UK PLC and I am pleased to find so many new colleagues of the same view in parliament.
An honour to be shortlisted for the constituency I have served as councillor for many years. Lets work together to tackle the issues on residents' minds like HS2, crime, and supporting our great local high streets. Thanks
@NickHurdUK
for all his support over the years
Away from the drama of the opinion polls, congratulations to
@Hillingdon_Tory
new Cllr Kelly Martin with a 58% share of the vote and 1547 majority
@Conservatives
Lets start a new year and a new decade with a new parliament, and new focus on peace, prosperity and stability for our country. Good luck to all Conservative candidates and campaigners today and lets give the country a working majority government for Christmas.
Grateful to receive confirmation from HS2 Minister
@Andrew4Pendle
that he will act where HS2 contractors are failing to adhere to safety guidelines. This is a frequent complaint from constituents and government projects should set an example of best practice
My wife's picture of a bee in the garden. Protecting our natural environment is a key challenge for government and needs to be a part of the recovery plan from Covid-19
Good to catch up with
@Councillorsuzie
in Westminster this evening and hear how she is supporting
@tuckwell_steve
and
@Hillingdon_Tory
taking the fight to Mayor Khan and saving Uxbridge police station from his closure plans
A privilege to have served with Ray for 22 years - someone from whom I have learned a huge amount and whose leadership is hugely valued by my Hillingdon borough constituents
Hillingdon Councilβs longest serving leader (20 years) Cllr Sir Ray Puddifoot MBE has announced that he will be resigning as Leader of the Council in the new year.
These are challenging times. But, the Mayorβs response could be so much better. London has an opportunity for change and a much more positive direction from
@ShaunBaileyUK
I was a youth worker for over twenty years.
So Iβve seen Londonβs problems β and Iβve seen Londonβs potential.
I know that together we can make London safer, greener and more affordable.
Thatβs why Iβm standing for Mayor.
Take a look at my video for more.
Moving visit to the Covid memorial wall just over the river from Parliament. Brings home the impact of Covid on so many peopleβs lives and relationships.
HS2 Ltd and all construction businesses should not be undertaking any work where appropriate separation of people cannot be maintained during the current period of restrictions
Useful catch up with new colleagues who share my concerns about HS2. Planning next steps for taking these concerns forward and seek a change of approach.
Today we find another ULEZ enforcement van outside Whiteheath schools in Ruislip. Why doesnβt the Mayor support councils with better powers against idling engines outside schools, rather than targeting parents who rely on their cars here in the suburbs?
Taken the opportunity to speak to ministers about the HS2 works which are proceeding regardless of the pandemic. Need to ensure public works contractors respect the standards government is setting at this time
Having raised this in Parliament last night during the debate over the Environment Bill, I am please to see this ruling which reduces the chances of constituents having to suffer pollution:
Heathrow third runway ruled illegal over climate change
Thanks to the many constituents who have written to me about Sir David Amess. I will ensure the condolences are passed to his family. Constituents wishing to raise issues are welcome to get in touch as normal, details available online, and the office and I are here to help
This morning I visited HM Queen Elizabeth lying in state and paid respects on behalf of many constituents who are unable to be there in person. A very calm and peaceful atmosphere in the historic space of Westminster Hall.
Had my Covid jab at Bury Street Youth Centre organised by
@Hillingdon
@Hillingdon_CCG
Very efficient as they are now on younger people whose medical history indicates it due to great progress across all groups. When you get a call from the NHS keep everyone safe by taking it up
No announcement but widespread media coverage suggesting HS2 will continue without further review of route or business case. Not a wise infrastructure decision if true. Meeting with likeminded colleagues to consider next steps.
From the Uxbridge & South Ruislip count, sincere thanks to the
@Hillingdon
team who have made the election process run smoothly today. Outstanding professionalism on display
Always reminded what a privilege it is to serve my constituents when I go canvassing. Great support for Hitesh, our candidate in the upcoming Pinner South by election tonight
Pleasure to join
@BobBlackman
at the Tamil Golfing Society dinner tonight and see how the Tamil community are contributing to life in our constituencies
With a general election called for 4th July, I look forward to working with the excellent team of
@HAConservatives
@Hillingdon_Tory
for every vote from Harefield to Hatch End, and Northwood to Ruislip
Avoiding an Ed Miliband-style campaign moment with an excellent sandwich at the lovely Vitoβs in Ruislip, who have also kindly hosted many constituency surgeries since 2019
Useful meeting with the Prime Minister alongside other MPs with an interest in HS2. Pressed the case, which he recognises, for the disruption and lack of benefit to both our constituencies.
The river Pinn and an Egret who may have been over optimistic looking for tasty morsels. Good to have access to nature in our local area, especially as lockdown measures intensify and βoutdoorsβ becomes more important than ever.
@DSimmonds_RNP
Hi David, can you please confirm for all of your constituents that if there is a vote on the future of HS2 during the coming weeks that you will vote against HS2 (rather than abstain / not turn up)? Thank you
As we prepare for next weekβs consideration of the Illegal Migration Bill, this book in one of our
@Hill_libraries
reminds us of the need to treat refugee children, especially, as weβd like our own to be, if the position were reversed
Friendly reception out and about in Ruislip today. Helpful to engage with constituents and everyone very mindful of security at the moment and giving kind feedback.
Thanks to
@Conservatives
Mark Harper for joining me in Ruislip today to explain how heβs backing our local campaign to clean up our air without the hated ULEZ which has hit many constituents so hard
Thanks to ministers at the Department of Health and Social Care for committing to work with me to secure the future of Pinn Medical Centre walk-in and future services at Mount Vernon hospital in response to my parliamentary questions
Stopped with
@tuckwell_steve
to look at Hillingdon House Farm, threatened with development by a Labour council 25 years ago and under threat again as Labour pledge to remove green belt protection to aid development. Thanks goodness
@Hillingdon_Tory
are still here to protect it
Thanks to the
@HAConservatives
and
@Hillingdon_Tory
volunteers joining our evening session in Ruislip today, and once again a great response from residents
Full Council
@Hillingdon
as
@Hillingdon_Tory
pay tribute to Sir Ray Puddifoot as he steps down and welcome Cllr Ian Edwards. An honour to pay tribute to a local politician who has done so much good for my constituents and all residents over the years
Constituency surgeries are continuing to run, on the telephone given the current situation. Email David.simmonds.mp
@parliament
.uk if you are a constituent in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner needing assistance from your MP. Colleagues elsewhere have similar measures in place
Thanks to the Pinn Medical Centre patientsβ association for their time and efforts in the campaign to maintain services. We have a plan and I will post updates as we progress.
Beautiful icy fountain at the Dogs Trust, Harefield which I visited after constituency surgery in Harefield this morning to see their amazing work rehoming dogs
@DogsTrust
HS2 I challenged David Cameron on this directly when HS2 was first mooted, voted resources to support the campaign against it as a councillor, attended parliament to support residents campaigning against the bill, and want the review to dump HS2 and use the resources differently
Hugely busy first day of our campaign thanks to
@SmallwoodCorner
Great to bump into so many friends and supporters out in Pinner, Northwood and Harefield today with
@Hillingdon_Tory
and Harrow colleagues
Great for my constituents served by this police base, if true. When I raised this at PMQs with
@rishi
Sunak 2 weeks ago
@MayorofLondon
was resolute his closure plan was going ahead. Maybe he will u-turn on ULEZ too thanks to
@tuckwell_steve
and his campaigning
@Hillingdon_Tory
Sadiq Khan is due to make a desperate U turn ahead of the Uxbridge & South Ruislip by election and reverse his own decision to close Uxbridge Police station
Good news for resident support of local candidate
@tuckwell_steve
βs campaign alongside Hillingdon Conservatives since 2017
Thanks to the team out in Ruislip this morning. Notable to see people switching to
@Conservatives
because of the good work we have been doing as
@Hillingdon_Tory
team locally
Useful discussion with transport minister
@PaulMaynardUK
about ongoing HS2 and Heathrow concerns shared by
@Hillingdon_Tory
Good to see ministers in constructive, listening mode
What a time for intruders on the track to send transport from the constituency to Westminster into meltdown. So frustrating but glad that colleagues, as expected agreed the Privileges Committee report tonight and my sympathy will all constituents equally stuck
Very impressive
@Hillingdon
and Herts Middx Wildlife Trust βBig Garden Birdwatchβ event at Manor Farm, Ruislip. Lots of people enjoying the winter sunshine
Coming up on Iain Dale On Sunday:

Early start on the Met line this morning. Very vexed along with fellow commuters that this previously reliable service has gone awry recently and supporting
@GLAConservative
campaign to get it back on track
A decision that will help thousands to get a secure home by
@theresa_may
that LGA has been campaigning for. A great win for
@garyporterlga
that will make a real difference to future generations, and to council finances
LGA WIN! Fantastic news as
@theresa_may
announces the housing borrowing cap will be scrapped. The LGA has lobbied tirelessly for this move to allow councils to resume their historic role as a major builder of affordable homes.
Full reaction from us to come π π‘π
