An interesting takeaway from Tesla's Master Plan Part 3 is the implied cathode market share of the future EV fleet. @skorusARK previously discussed the reasons why lithium iron phosphate (LFP) should continue to gain market share, as costs decline in line with Wright's Law.

China is exporting deflation in a more profound way than I believe many economists and strategists appreciate. All else equal, the 15% depreciation in the yuan relative to the dollar in the last year should have increased its PPI inflation rate by 15%. Instead it has dropped 4%.

Tesla is in discussion with a major automaker about licensing FSD. This is not surprising in the wake of failed efforts like ArgoAI at Ford. Autonomy is hard, it requires vast amounts of data, and I believe many automakers will fail to achieve it on their own.

In summary, we believe that Tesla's real advantage is its existing car fleet, or the largest deployment of robots in the world. Through OTA updates, Tesla has the ability to accelerate data gathering and advance towards achieving full autonomy.

Highlighting some key milestones. Month 7 & 25 represent two key OTA updates for Tesla, exponentially growing autonomous miles. Cruise passed 1M miles in month 15, with Waymo taking 29 months. Importantly, both Waymo and Cruise are geofenced, FSD is not.

What to do with all of this data? Yesterday Tesla announced its intention to begin the production of its Dojo supercomputer in July 2023, in response to a lack of GPU supply. We believe that this is an important milestone to achieving full autonomy.

So what does this look like on a daily basis? FSD is currently collecting more than 1M miles per day. We can imply the daily miles using cumulative data, and we believe that Cruise collecting ~15,000 miles per day (We cannot imply daily miles for Waymo given data available).

What about rate of progress? Cruise recently passed 2M driverless miles, ~3 months after passing 1M (~x5 rate of improvement, compared to Tesla's ~x7). As of April 2023, we believe that Tesla is generating ~1.7M miles per day (1M miles every ~14 hours). Waymo has not yet hit 2M.

The FSD v12.3 videos are very impressive. In older versions (v11 etc.), minor updates had notable differences. With an end-to-end AI approach, minor updates are becoming increasingly subtle and difficult to describe, yet result in a more human-like driving experience.
