Well, I was not expecting that! Truly unforgettable moment finding a PECHORA PIPIT at Hillswick this afternoon, with the legend
@Jake_Gearty
. Relieved that so many birders connected, and was one of our most wanted
#Shetland
specials. Just... wow!
#Lifer
๐ ๐ฏ๐พ
Phwoooar! Without doubt, the Lerwick White's Thrush has been the best bird of this
#Shetland
trip. Incredible views today as it danced along to Taylor Swift's 'shake it off'. ๐คฉ
Had a thought-provoking chat on Saturday with a young birder at Strumpshaw (new to the hobby) stating how they'd previously been made to feel "uncomfortably judged when they make ID mistakes" by more experienced folks. Hear this... ALL BIRDERS MAKE MISTAKES! Please keep going. ๐
NEW SITE RECORD - 65 Crane(!) into roost at Stubb Mill tonight. Also 60 Marsh Harrier (including 52 up together), 3 Hen Harrier (2 males and a ringtail), a perched Merlin, a flock of White-fronted Geese, Water Pipit, Bittern, GWE and a Barn Owl!
#rbnNFK
'Quark' me! NIGHT HERON are a bit of an enigma in Norfolk, so finding one at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen tonight was an exciting moment! There was definitely a fist punched into the air, and as a bonus, its an addition to my British list too.

Unbelievable moment this evening with the Red-footed Falcon at Haddiscoe. I was walking up to the viewing area when I spotted it zooming low towards me. It didn't stop and missed my head by literally a few inches! Scenes!

After six years, Iโll be moving out of Norfolk at the end of August to begin a new job in Hampshire. Whilst looking forward to new adventures, I just want to say thank you to all who made my time in the county so unforgettable...๐
โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ - "Would recommend!"
I'm in shock! My completely 'birdless' garden in Poringland has just been visited by this BLACK REDSTART. Always goes to show, have binoculars and a camera ready on your desk when working from home.

Phwoar! Yesterday, Estonia delivered us this amazing raft of 70+ STELLER'S EIDER, which gave unexpectedly close views and even started displaying. ๐๐ช๐ช
It's been a spectacular weekend in the Spanish Pyrenees and undoubtedly one I'll never forget. Birding highlights for me were Wallcreeper, Dupont's Lark, Eagle Owl, Bonelli's Eagle and, of course, insane views of Lammergeier! ๐คฉ๐ช๐ธ
Bittersweet about Brรผnnich's Guillemot becoming my

British bird this afternoon, but that doesn't take anything away from the incredible journey to reach this point. Thank you to all the amazing people who I've shared some of these awesome birds with over the years!๐๐
SPOON-BILLED SANDPIPER!!! This was one of three individuals we saw today (as well as green flag '77' and an unringed bird) at Pak Thale, Thailand. Unique, adorable, and a true conservation icon. What... a... bird! Get in! ๐
Epic morning's sea-watch at Sheringham, being treated to the spectacular sight of SIX LONG-EARED OWL coming in off between dawn and midday!

A couple of Yellow-browed Warbler were the stars of the show this morning at Horsey. A few Goldcrest and Song Thrush made it feel quite rare out there.

Far flung from a ski lodge picnic table in the Pyrenees (where I last saw this species), an Alpine Accentor on a Suffolk beach was not something I expected to see today. Huge thanks to the finder! ๐คฉ
Back to reality now our Cyprus trip is over. A vocal group of Eleonora's Falcon stooping and dogfighting along a cliff edge, just meters above (and below) our heads, surely must be the trip highlight. Absolutely class! ๐คฉ๐จ๐พ
Day two in Cyprus and there have honestly been too many highlights to list in a tweet. However, Eleaonora's Falcon became the 1500th bird species on my world list (they're incredible!). Cyprus Scops Owl and Great Snipe were welcome additions, plus a sea turtle! ๐๐จ๐พ

Just finished a 10 hour(!) sea-watch at Sheringham, 6am to 4pm. Going east were 206 Little Gull, 80 Arctic Skua, 12 Great Skua and 3 Pom Skua, while 6 Sooty Shearwater went west. Other highlights were 90+ Manx, 2 Long-tailed Skua, 3 Black Tern, 2 Hobby and a Puffin.

Yes Brad!!! This is why I report my finds (and can't understand why others don't). The joy birds can bring to others is honestly a big part of why I do this! ๐๐๐๐
Spotted Crake lifer (Brad) nailed at Cantley Beet Factory with loads of Green Sand, Cm Sand Snipe, Ruff, Dunlin and singles of Avocet and Cutlew Sand! Great start to day 2

Hen Harrier hunting the Norfolk Broads on calm cold winter's evening! Always a thrill to see, and today was no exception with this stunning male and elegant ringtail showing brilliantly.

๐
The female Red-backed Shrike at Winterton this morning. Whilst she's undoubtedly been overshadowed by the stonking male a mile up the coast, she's the first shrike I've ever found in British birding and for that, holds a special place on my list! ๐
Turns out that my Tem Stint at Buckenham today was actually most likely a Sanderling!!! Whilst I partly blame my exhaustion from yesterday's 24hr bird race, its a reminder that it's OK to make mistakes in birding and own them. Still a mid-Yare and patch first for me anyhow. ๐
Witnessed a rare SUPER POD today in Monterey Bay. Over 4000(!) Northern Right Whale Dolphins, 1000 Pacific White-sided Dolphins and 20 Humpback Whales all around our boat. Black-footed Albatrosses joined the frenzy too. Incredible scenes! ๐๐บ๐ธ
A flying afternoon trip to a grotty ditch behind McDonalds on a Great Yarmouth retail park proved rewarding, with the nine BEE-EATER enjoying their lunch overhead. Always a joy to watch!

I must be slightly insane for attempting Blakeney Point in 33C heat this afternoon, but it was fantastic to have my first real taste of autumn this year. No fewer than 7 Pied Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, 4 Whinchat, Willow Warbler, Reed Warbler and a handful of Wheatear.

WESTERN SANDPIPER still present at Pennington, on Oxey Marsh (14.20). Yet another mega in Hampshire this autumn.

Yikes! This site is SSSI with a number of Schedule 1 breeding birds. It is also home to species in rapid decline, such as Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. This is very worrying indeed. Please reconsider.
Covered every square inch of Blakeney Point today, featuring a reasonable spread of common migrants (but no 'heavy hitters'). Totals included: 11 Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Redstart, 12 Whinchat, 25 Wheatear, 15 Willow Warbler and 4 Garden Warbler.

Rewarding day in the winter sunshine with

After getting soaked on Saturday while volunteering at Strumpshaw,

Absolutely couldn't write it. I'm elated to have been heavily involved in this discovery. There are a couple of juvenile LEO in the area so as it says below, please keep your distance if you are lucky enough to catch up with one. Thank you in advance. ๐
We're thrilled that Long-eared Owl have successfully fledged chicks in the mid-Yare Valley this spring! This youngster has been hanging around our reception complex for the last couple of days. If you come across it, please be respectful and give it plenty of space. Thank you! ๐
Fantastic end to August as Blakeney Point delivered some real quality! My day totals included Bluethroat, Barred Warbler (2), Pied Flycatcher (4), Redstart, Whinchat, Wheatear and several Willow Warbler.

Trekking through the New Forest off the beaten path (and away from the crowds) has its rewards! Displaying Goshawk, several Hawfinch, Crossbill and Jack Snipe topped a decent day's haul. ๐ฒ๐ณ๐

All calm at Whitlingham CP this evening, as a welcome drake Goosander flew over high east. If that wasn't exciting enough, not one, not two, but THREE BITTERN put in appearances at dusk. A site record for me!

! A first for me, and very excited to see what this coming week will bring. For now though, day one's highlight must be self-found BLUE TIT (shortly followed by an Olive-backed Pipit and two Barred Warblers)!๐
I'm not in Norfolk anymore, being 1215m above my comfort zone today. Dipping Ptarmigan was less than ideal, but a flock of 200 Snow Bunting at the summit was impressive. Views were OK too I guess. ๐๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
