One of my players “bumped” a cutter. It honestly can’t even be called that bc there was so little contact. I told the ref that would NEVER be a foul in the men’s game. He reminded me that this was women’s basketball, not men’s, so it was a foul. Y’all, it’s the same game!

Today starts the 8th & last week of practice before our team heads home for 2 (yes, TWO) months. I don’t know if I could’ve had the mental fortitude at age 18, 19, 20 to endure 8 weeks of practice with no game in sight, but they did & did it well. 1 more week to get better!

My staff & I just started coaching a 16U AAU team and spent the better part of 2 hours on basic defensive principles. Afterwards, we had a kid say they really enjoyed it & learned a lot as they haven’t played man defense since FIFTH GRADE.

Head coaches always talk about how they don’t sleep. As an assistant, I slept like a normal human. I was hired as a head coach in April & I haven’t slept in 6 months 😂 My players get the benefit of running through the breakdown drills I make up at 2am 🤷🏽‍♀️

Had a laughably bad practice today in terms of outcome. 20+ missed bunnies, bricks from 3. But a great practice in that energy was ⬆️, & we executed & got the shots we wanted. The ball won’t always bounce your way & the commitment to process over outcome is everything.

We took our final covid test of the season today. Our program has had 0 shut downs & we’re in month 8 of this wild season. They’ve BEEN doing their part - vaccination was just the next step. Proud of them!!

One of our players did an Instagram Takeover today & commented that our practices are fun. I love that. I want them to think that. & to be clear, our practices are by no means easy. But when you enjoy what you’re doing, you’re going to do it better. So we’ll keep having fun.

My staff & I booked a trip to Fayetteville, AR a few months ago so we could watch some @RazorbackWBB practices and learn from one of the best in the business in Mike Neighbors. Covid slowed down some those plans, but glad we still got to meet up and talk shop w/ @coachneighbors !

No set date for a game yet, and they still come in every day ready to learn and work. Ending practice like this was more than deserved (and probably a little overdue!) I’m beyond grateful to be their coach.

There are points in a season where some games are just “must-wins.” I felt like yesterday’s game was one of those for us. This kid just put us on her back, went to work, and had the MOST fun while doing it. She led us in smiles, assists, & steals!

The Standard is the Standard, regardless of the circumstance‼️ Up 30, down 30/shooting 0-12 or 12-12/bad call or good call - You dive on loose balls, talk on D, sprint the floor, you dap up your teammates. What’s happening around you will change, but the Standard NEVER does.

The way we react to situations we don’t like is a testament to our character. It’s easy to be kind/genuine/positive when things are going well, but how you respond when things don’t go your way will always be more telling.

My former teammates are my best friends - they will always be the greatest gift of playing college basketball for me. Players: Invest in relationships with your teammates!! Basketball is fleeting, relationships last.

I hear y’all about these transfers, but I also know that if I don’t transfer my junior year, I’m not doing what I’m doing right now. If they’re able to go where they’re loved and valued and wanted, it’s a win. Them ending up in the best place for them is what ultimately matters

The transfer portal is open & student-athletes are flooding though it. Yes, “freedom of movement,” finding a better fit...yada, yada, yada but some of it is pure inability to handle the slightest adversity that sports brings.
