Why did you falsely claim that the Biden laptop was Russian disinfo? How can Americans trust NatSec officials who politicize their credentials & run an influence op on a presidential election? Even if you were just mistaken (🙄), shouldn’t you now admit you were wrong?
@elonmusk
Dr. Fauci is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health
Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions.
You may have money, but you have no class.
Biden had boxes full of classified docs from his time as a Senator. Unlike Trump, who had ultimate declassification authority as POTUS, there is no possible legal authority for Sen. Biden to possess those docs. He clearly violated the law. I look forward to seeing those charges.
Want to know what it's like to deal with some journalists who "cover" the Intel and NatSec communities at the highest level, but actually serve more like mouthpieces of the permanent security state?
Here's a story about how wrong they can be without consequences.
Thread...
Then-DNI
@JohnRatcliffe
explicitly said the laptop was not Russian disinfo. Still no apologies from the 50 former Intel officials who politicized their credentials, or the media who parroted their talking points. I guess being on the right side of history will have to suffice.
But

None of them -- Schiff, the former Intel officials who lied about the laptop...the journalists involved -- have ever admitted they were wrong.

Tonight is another opportunity to remember that not a single one of these former top intel officials apologized for falsely claiming the laptop was a Russian disinfo op.
@politico
left the story up, and “reporter”
@NatashaBertrand
just moved on to spread her propaganda at CNN.

In Sept 2020, Roth participated in an Aspen Institute “tabletop exercise” on a potential "Hack-and-Dump" operation relating to Hunter Biden
The goal was to shape how the media covered it — and how social media carried it
Once again the Biden Administration has to concede that Trump was right all along. Trump endured breathless criticism for ending funding to UNRWA, a corrupt, anti-Israel organization with long-time ties to Hamas.
State Dept: US is extremely troubled by allegations 12 UNRWA employees may have been involved in the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. State Dept has paused additional funding for UNRWA while we review these allegations and the steps the UN is taking to address them.
March 2021, Biden's own Office of the DNI released the Intelligence Community's Assessment of foreign threats to the 2020 election.
As I'd told
@NatashaBertrand
and
@blakehounshell
back in 2020, they assessed that Iran sought to hurt Trump.
Proven right, again.
At some point, exasperated that the truth didn't seem to matter when
@NatashaBertrand
was fixated on building a narrative, I snapped and said it was "garbage reporting."
@blakehounshell
replied that I was a "garbage person."
And
@politico
published another misleading story.
2. How could Ratcliffe go "off script" when it's his script? We were still writing his remarks in the motorcade on the way to the press conference, right up until moments before he went on stage.
The whole angle of the story made no sense.

At this point I took the rare step of asking to speak to her editor, who was

I explained to Blake what I outlined above, and reminded him that

It got a little heated...
Oct. 27:
@JohnRatcliffe
warns the country in a primetime press conference that several foreign countries were seeking to influence the 2020 election.
Among those countries was Iran, whom Ratcliffe accurately noted was seeking to “damage President Trump."
1. The intelligence was clear about Iran's intention to hurt Trump. The country's top counter-intel official had even called them out publicly months before. Here's his statement from Aug. 7, 2020, relaying the Intelligence Community's assessment of what Iran was up to.
Oct. 28:

On FISA… If FBI Director Chris Wray wasn’t an inept leader, he’d hold a press conference and say:
“The reason we’re having this debate is because FBI officials abused their FISA Title I powers & lied to the FISC to justify surveillance of Mr. Trump’s campaign in 2016. I’m here…
Russia invaded Georgia under Bush, took Crimea under Obama, invaded Ukraine under Biden... Perhaps the most compelling argument that Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if Trump were president is that Putin didn't invade Ukraine while Trump was president.
Special counsel says Biden "willfully retained & disclosed classified" info as VP & "when he was a private citizen," and that his actions posed "serious risks to national security."
But Biden will not face any charges.
Meanwhile, you know what they've done to Trump.
Disgrace.
A reminder that this individual was explicitly told that there was zero intelligence to suggest that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a Russian op and she dutifully ran the story anyway. She never issued a correction. Never apologized. Here’s how it happened —>

In the lengthy history of the dumbest Cillizza takes, this is way up there. We’re going to blame a guy who won by a comfortable margin… and this is the $ allocation decision we’re going to focus on? Get a clue.
It’s difficult to think of more highly sensitive intelligence than military contingency plans to attack one of the country’s most severe national security threats, Iran.
In summary: It defies all logic that the Trump Admin was yelling from the rooftops that "China is National Security Threat No. 1," but just ignored some "China spy base" in Cuba.
The Biden Admin is deflecting their failures by running their China spy balloon PR playbook again.
"5,000 [Chinese nationals] were caught [at the US border] just in the month of November. 85% of those are single men of military age... What % of those are here on [Chinese govt.] orders to intensify efforts to interfere in our election? " -

Many seem to view the Russo-Ukrainian War as an opportunity to double down in Europe. Washington must resist this temptation like the plague and focus on what really matters: the effort to deny China’s dominance of Asia.

Disgraceful, unethical, blatant politicization of a decision that should have prioritized national security and nothing else. Alabama had the site that best fit the objective criteria, but
@JoeBiden

It stands to reason that such an effort would explore activities and capabilities of various potentially malign actors in Cuba.
It further stands to reason then, that if such a "spy base" existed in '19, it would have been discussed at the highest levels.

So here are the facts, without getting into more detail than I can:
There's been ample reporting about the Trump Admin's "Havana syndrome" probe, a response to “anomalous health incidents” first experienced by American diplomats in Cuba in 2016.
I've not seen a single one of the 50+ signers of this letter apologize for being wrong & for their name/position being used to swing a US election with false info. If they were acting in good faith, they should be able to admit they were wrong.

I’d never seen Jim Lehrer’s “rules of journalism.” So good. If reporters actually followed them, public trust in the news media wouldn’t be in the toilet.
Not all reporters are dishonest. Half or more might be upstanding. But dishonesty is endemic in the profession. You can tell from e.g. Jim Lehrer's rules for his own conduct. He wouldn't need to mention these practices explicitly if they weren't common.
I’ll probably remember the last summer of my 30s for getting my front tooth knocked out playing basketball 🥴 But not before lighting up these youngsters first! 😂🇺🇸🏀
Many NatSec journos are beholden to their anon sources. It’s its own form of agency capture. They let them remain anon & hide behind “take my word for it; it’s classified,” & always favor the anons over on-the-record officials who oppose what the unelected bureaucracy wants.
So my argument is that proponents of Ukraine aid are ignoring basic mathematical realities.
An anonymous staffer claims based on the "classified intel" that I'm wrong, and is contradicted by the Ukrainian defense minister.
