I’M WRITING A BOOK, Y’ALL!📚 So excited to announce my first book, all about Black-owned bookstores. There has never been a book written about Black bookshops
BLACK-OWNED will explore their rich history & how they’ve been foundational to Black liberation movements
@TinyRepBooks
When I was interviewing for a job, I asked for a certain salary. The editor, a Black woman, made sure to say “Nah” and offered me $20K more.
Even when I didn’t negotiate my salary well, she used her power to make sure I was paid well. Grateful for people like her.
Someone joked that I “must not have any side gigs” bc I go to bed early. I want us to get over this idea that sleep is a hindrance to success.
I work hard, manage my time well and prioritize rest. My sleep is just as important to me as my work. Get with the winning team.
*women talks about being assaulted by man*
Men: Shut up, dumb hoe! Men get assaulted too! Why y’all don’t care about that?!
*man talks openly about being assaulted*
Men: 😂😂😂😂😂😩😩😩😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not-so-friendly reminder: The number of Black kids dying by suicide has risen 71 percent in the last 10 years. Black kids between 5 & 12 are dying at twice the rate of the general population.
We can correct our children without emotional abuse.
Not somebody stole my car last night/early this morning🙄🙄🙄
I used this anti-theft app to find out exactly where it was, hopped on my bike, and took my whip back. People are really wylin.
Keep seeing folks talking about being fed up with the “rap girlies” fighting. But… that’s not what’s happening. There is one common denominator. The rap girls aren’t fighting, a bully is bullying. Let’s be clear.
The Tuskegee effect is real. Black people in the US have every right to be skeptical when medical racism exists. That is understandable and okay.
What is not okay is promoting easily-debunked conspiracy theories rooted in religious dogma, and rhetoric that could lead to deaths.

Aside from the fact that this is unethical (in both journalism and tech), pay attention to the ways these AI advances are usually used in ways that disparage, exploit, and caricaturize Black folks.
“If Roe falls, ppl in the South will turn to a network of grassroots organizations & advocacy groups led by Black women that has emerged out of necessity to fill gaps in health care coverage and the social safety net.”

The only Black-owned bookstore in Farmers Branch, TX, needs our help
BlackLIT has been such an important community center & bookshop since it opened. Now, a landlord wants the owner, Nia-Tayler, to leave. Pls give what you can

I keep thinking back to that video Chadwick posted a few months ago. He was very skinny and people were so terrible about it he deleted the video. He had to hide his sickness. Man. My heart is aching.
I love that, in AAVE, “be” and “stay” function essentially the same.
“I be eatin wings!” and “I stay eatin wings!” mean the same thing. But there is an art to the habitual be and stay.
And if you know you know.
Really sad, devastating news. A water pipe burst on Friday and ruined a LOT of books at Third World Press, the country's oldest Black-owned publishing company.
They've launched a flood fund to get back on their feet. Please consider donating.
People get very, very weird about Beyonce.
Y'all notice how whenever Bey has a tour or album, suddenly it's unreasonable to wanna go to a concert? Suddenly it's unreasonable to like an album a lot? People are "doing too much" by supporting an artist they enjoy
It's strange.
In my early 20s, my mom would always tell me, "You know you can always come back home." I thought she was just being extra.
Now I get it. She understands that life is hard & I might need to go home & regroup. I'm so grateful to her for that. (Now let me stop playing & go home)
All Ill say about Hillsong is that no one is shocked anymore when church leaders are accused of sexual assault. And the subtext is purity culture.
Sex crimes will always abound in institutions where sex is rooted in shame, fear, repression, & control. Purity culture breeds abuse
“You are not afraid of Black people from the hood. What you are afraid of is being treated and thought about the way you treat and think about Black people from the hood.” -

Today Trayvon Martin should be turning 24. This is one milestone on a long list of "should haves" Trayvon will never get to enjoy
We honor him by continuing to fight for justice, the fight for Black boys & girls — with purpose & intentionality, w/ love & courage. Rest in power.
Respectability politics won't save us. We have to do away with this idea that Black women's truths don't matter unless we speak them nicely, unless we play the part.
Also, this convo requires critical knowledge about race, gender, & class power structures. Steve nuh have that.
Hey, Black folk, we need to wear sunscreen. Contrary to popular belief, we’re not exempt from skin cancer or other skin ailments because we have a lot of melanin.
Wear sunscreen everyday, even if u plan to stay inside. Even if it’s cloudy. Your chapstick should have SPF as well

passed. Abortions in GA will be restricted to 6 weeks — before women usually even know they’re pregnant.
Women are going to die. The number of illegal (unsafe) abortions will increase. Physicians will leave the state in fear of prosecution.
Let’s get to work.
Having emotionally intelligent, mature friends is a blessing and a curse.
It’s never, “Yeah, bring the car around! Let’s go snatch that hoe!”
It’s always: “Why does this unsettle you? How can we unpack and learn from this?”
🙄🙄🙄
Meg is cute and charming and all. But there is a convo to be had about her (a BW) being so committed to keeping a BM from going to jail only to have him throw her under the bus.
Far too often BM benefit from our anti-prison worldview, and BW don’t get that same protection.
Buzzfeed News gave us groundbreaking investigations into R. Kelly, money laundering at big banks, & modern Chinese internment camps.
Along with 180 people losing their jobs, shuttering Buzzfeed News means journalism will lose a wealth of important reporting. This is terrible.
Sarah Collins is the little girl who survived the Alabama church bombing in 1963. She lost her eye in the attack, & is still paying medical bills for it.
"The way they treated me here ... they don't acknowledge me as being the fifth little girl.”
What’s really interesting about Lana Del Rey’s post is that we see how quickly some women are willing to participate in patriarchy to serve themselves.
She has been an overtly sexual artist for years. But now that she’s facing critique, it’s “Beyoncé songs about f*cking!”
And he did it at the expense of Black women — maligning and vilifying us in almost all his movies/shows for the sake of some paternalistic “moral” lesson.
I’ve heard plenty men pastors talk about how theyre the “leaders” of their family. But then talk about all the areas of life their wives lead in bc she’s simply better at it — “She leads the finances, the childcare, the planning.”
What exactly are YOU leading then, sir?🤔
It’s fascinating hearing Meg’s singles — very much mainstream hits that seem to diverge from her harder rap. But it’s clear through these freestyles — & even tracks like Plan B — that Meg is holding on to her roots as much as possible even while under pressure to sound different
When light skinned folks talk about colorism, it’s usually social slights— “ppl called me white girl.” When actual colorism means dark skinned folks have a hard time getting jobs/homes & are more vulnerable to abuse. Consequences that impact the material conditions of their lives

Aside from the overall gaslighting being done here, what really stands out to me is that he’s doing what so many manipulators do
He’s focusing on her being “rude” to deflect from why she doesn’t wanna talk to him. He’s ignoring the actual issue/her feelings to victimize himself
Y’all, we have never seen the likes of Beyonce in all of history. Let that sink in. There is no predicting where her career will go/end because there is no precedent for her. THERE IS NO PRECEDENT

I spoke with African students in Ukraine who are leading their own rescue efforts, and have created a massive network to help Black people in the area find safety & refuge.
They've given clear ways to support Black students in Ukraine

Peak white feminism. Use disingenuous claims of sexism to deflect from the fact that this rich white woman used her power to push Black and brown people deeper into poverty.
We have videos of police killing Black people. Literally millions see their final moments. There are lynching postcards. There are Reddit subgroups dedicated to dead bodies. If all that didn’t cause a “shift,” seeing dead children certainly won’t. Let those babies rest in peace.
Some journalists argue that if lawmakers and American citizens were able to see the graphic images of dead bodies in classrooms, there could be a shift in how some in the country approach gun rights.
The fact that I can work full time, go to grad school, freelance, do nonprofit work and still be in bed by 9:30 (yes, 9:30) is a testament to my time management skills and my work ethic. I have plenty side gigs, they just don’t have me. Don’t play, baby.
People love to peddle the idea that abolitionists don’t adequately consider sexual violence. When the reality is that many abolitionists are survivors of sexual violence ourselves.
We understand just how pervasive gender violence is in prisons, jails, and policing.

Just a friendly reminder that abortion wasn't a major issue in religious institutions until the religious right needed a more palatable road to power once segregation fell outta favor.
That’s largely what TikTok is, butchered AAVE. And white content creators studying Black creators only to steal their content and fail at the AAVE they’re tryna co-opt.
And this is the result.
Reminder: There’s a difference btwn punishment & consequence.
Kyle is racist, that is not okay. Attending Harvard is a privilege. He lost that privilege. THAT is a consequence.
Punishment would be barring him from any school forever. That’s not the case. He’ll live. Relax.
Friendly reminder: Stop telling ppl they can’t critique systems without providing a solution/replacement
You don’t have to shut up about white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism etc. just bc u don’t have a 50-yr, 10-pt plan attached to your critique.
This is a silencing tactic.
I've been wanting to address this for days, but have been much too angry to do so.
Just so we're clear: Christians, while y'all were harassing LGBTQ folk, fighting abortion, and telling women to close our legs, these priests were molesting your children.
I wrote about being a Black woman who doesn’t want children. A year later, I’m still experiencing the healing that writing this piece gave me. Understanding that motherhood isnt the be-all, end-all of womanhood has given me a peace I couldn’t have imagined
Too much: “GO OUT AND VOTE! THE FUTURE IS AT STAKE! DON’T BE DUMB!”
And not enough: “Gee, there are a LOT of barriers to voting. What can we do about that?”
I know the personal is political. But stop asking me if, bc I’m a feminist, I think women should pay for dates/split bills, etc.
Feminism is questioning the state & ending systems of domination/oppression. I don’t care who pays for dates. People are dying. Stop wasting my time.
So, both Fox News and the Daily Mail published hit pieces on me over this article. And of course they’ve sent their minions to harass me. Which lets me know I’ve done great work😘😘
My heart aches for Oluwatoyin Salau.
Her death, like many Black women’s, happened at the intersection of racist misogyny, colorism, and patriarchy.
We have to dismantle these systems. This is how we honor her and fight for all survivors

Here I thought The American Society of Magical Negroes was gonna be smart, satirical, social commentary about the magical negro trope and Black-white power dynamics in social settings.
But no, it’s an interracial rom com🙃
Black people are 82% more likely to die in traffic accidents than white people. Experts say this happens for 3 reasons:
-Infrastructure decisions rooted in racism
-Highways built through Black neighborhoods
-Drivers less likely to stop for Black walkers
