I just went next door to our own beloved Cathedral, Saint Patrick’s, to ask the intercession of Notre Dame, our Lady, for the Cathedral at the heart of Paris, and of civilization, now in flames! God preserve this splendid house of prayer, and protect those battling the blaze.
I am praying with and for you all during this difficult time. If you have any special intention you'd like me to pray for, please leave it in the comments below. God bless.
Rev. King, my fellow pastor, we miss you more than ever. You so powerfully upheld the dignity of every human person, made in God’s image and likeness. You would remind us today that no country is a “hole,” no person unworthy of respect.
When we go to Mass, we should dress appropriately. I'm not talking about tuxedos, but we should clean up and have presentable dress. Let's restore, revive and maintain our reverence in the Most Holy Eucharist.
@thegnewsroom
The horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue targeting our Jewish brothers & sisters was more than senseless violence, it was an attack on all people of faith. We pray for those killed and injured as we stand in solidarity against anti-Semitism & hatred wherever it occurs.
Today Gov Cuomo linked me with the “religious right” for being pro-life. This is something new from him. He didn’t call me “religious right” when seeking my help with the minimum wage increase or prison reform. Read my full blog here:
I’m in Rome for the funeral of our beloved Pope Benedict XVI. I always stop at the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and I came here especially for Pope Benedict, because he had such a deep love of Mary.
I’d like to congratulate
@BpDiMarzio
and the
@BrooklynDiocese
on their victory for religious freedom in the U. S. Supreme Court. Our churches are essential.
Any pregnant woman can come to the
@NY_Arch
, and we will do all in our power to assist you, so that you never feel that you have no alternative except an abortion. We are here to help.
Thank you
@realDonaldTrump
for including not-for-profits and religious institutions in the stimulus package! They are more important than ever in this time of need. Also want to express my deep gratitude to all in D.C., especially
@SenSchumer
&
@RepPeteKing
who supported.
Let's get back to Mass, everybody! For most of us, it's safe, sound, and good for us to get back to Sunday Mass. We need you and we all need the Lord! He's there waiting.
I even had a nice birthday cake. There should have been 68 candles, not one, but the local fire laws prohibited so much open flame in the restaurant :)
For a genuine progressive, ALL human life deserves dignity, respect, care, and protection, no matter what stage, from the womb to the tomb. No exceptions!
The world says "I'm OK, you're OK". Advent reminds us that the world, and our lives, are a mess. We need something - *someone* - to make us whole. We need our Savior! Our lives are like the empty manger awaiting the birth of Christ!
My prayer for you, as I wish you all a blessed 2019, is that you'll stay with Mary, close to Jesus. No matter what comes, good or bad, you'll be all right! Happy New Year!
May you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.
Good morning from Rome! I’m here for two days of meetings, and I never like to come to Rome without offering Mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica. I’m bringing your intentions with me.
We New Yorkers pride ourselves on being “progressive.” Would not a truly progressive state rally around a mom in a challenging pregnancy to help her give life to her baby with a strong preference for the life of the infant rather than the termination?
We give thanks to God for today’s decision of the United States Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Read the statement from me and my brother Bishops of New York State:
Today is the feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe – a Catholic priest who gave his life on behalf of another in the Auschwitz concentration camp. We are reminded that truth and love will always conquer hatred!
Happy Columbus Day! I’m just on my way over to
@StPatsNYC
for Columbus Day Mass. Today we celebrate the faith so beautifully and colorfully carried on by the Italians who, thanks be to God, came to these shores.
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Just about to head over to
@StPatsNYC
for the honor and joy of ordaining nine young men to the priesthood.
Please join us in prayer during this time. This Holy Week teaches us that, like Jesus, death brings life. Yesterday’s dying, we trust, will bring rising.
St. Patrick’s will be ringing its
#bells
at 12:50PM today, marking the start of yesterday’s devastating
#NotreDameCathedralFire
. The bells of cathedrals and churches throughout
#France
and the world will toll in honor of the great spiritual & cultural heritage of Notre-Dame.
It’s the last Friday before Good Friday. Can I ask you a simple question? Do you have a crucifix in your house? It’s a sign of your Catholic identity, but also a reminder that you’re called to share in the Cross of Christ.
#LentenThoughts
Today is the anniversary of 9/11. We know what it means, especially to us New Yorkers. I also think about 9/12, the day New Yorkers began to rebuild -- it hasn't stopped yet. We remember 9/11 with reverence, but also recommit to the renewal & resurrection that goes on within us
The Church is never empty - we always have Jesus and His mother and the saints, and this morning I'm going to have all of you with me at the altar. We seem to be so isolated, but we are together in our concern. Happy Sunday, everyone. I'm praying with you, and for you.
Who did Jesus call to be His Apostles? Nobodies in the eyes of the world: 12 simple, clumsy, awkward cowards; all but 1 would desert Him. They would be transformed into brave evangelizers, the foundation of His Church. If God can convert them, He can do the same for each of us!
We Catholics have a beautiful devotion to Mary. We see her at the happiest time in human history, Christmas, but we also see her at the foot of the Cross with her Son. She is there at both and with us during both happy and sad moments in our lives too.
#LentenThoughts
Today we celebrate the Feast of Pope Saint John Paul II. When he visited Poland in June 1979, two-thirds of the country came to see him. That trip is known as the nine days that changed the world. While he celebrated Mass the crowd began to chant three words, “We want God.”
Some of you have submitted prayer requests to me. I want you to know that I see them, and that I do pray for each and every one. Never hesitate to ask for my prayers!
It’s been a rough time for faithful Catholics. We’ve been caricatured by politicians. And those who once told us that abortion should be “safe, legal and rare” now have made it dangerous, imposed and frequent. Read my full column in the

A blessed Easter! All the woes and frustrations, the adversity, the suffering that we all have – today tells us that it doesn’t have the last word. Jesus is inviting us to share eternity with Him, and if that isn’t good news, I don’t know what it. He is Risen! Alleluia!
To any women facing a difficult pregnancy, know you are not alone. We love you and you are welcome. We would be honored to serve you in any of our facilities. Please give us a call.
I'm on my way to Washington DC to join others in the annual
@March_For_Life
. I get so much encouragement when I see the number of young people there -- the future is ours, folks! Please join us as I update you tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Meet Cardinal Simoni. Cardinals wear red to signify a willingness to spill our blood for the faith; he did, spending 28 years in an Albanian prison for the “crime” of celebrating Mass for the soul of JFK. Welcome to NYC, Cardinal Simoni!
Happy Easter! I didn't want Easter Sunday to pass without extending my love and prayers for a Happy Easter to you. He is Risen! Alleluia!
@thegnewsroom
Hi everybody! It's Sunday, our first day in Rome. Every five years Bishops travel to Rome to meet with heads of Vatican offices and the Pope. Today I'm at the North American College. It's going to be a busy week. Stick around and I'll update you throughout the week!
Jesus is our best friend. He tells us today, "I call you friend...I chose you." How do we sustain friendship? 1.Talking with our friend-prayer. 2. Sharing meals together-Mass. 3. Getting together with mutual friends-The Church. 4. Doing things together-serving Him in the poor
There is no more hopeful place than Easter Sunday Mass! Light has overcome darkness, faith has vanquished doubt, life has triumphed over death. Satan and sin have been defeated. Jesus is risen. Alleluia!

Today is the feast day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She took her name after the Little Flower and was heroic and passionate in her love of the poor. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us.
I join with Pope Francis, my brother bishops in the United States, and all people of good will in praying for peace in Ukraine, and noting that Ash Wednesday, March 2, will be a special day of prayer and fasting for an end to this tragedy.
Holy Saturday is a mixed day -- the horror of the Passion is over, but the glory of the Resurrection isn't here yet. That's what life's all about. We find ourselves in that tension most of our lives -- a bit of Good Friday and a bit of Easter Sunday.
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The birth of every baby is God's signal that creation should continue. Mary's birth was a divine affirmation that recreation, renewal, salvation, and redemption go on. Happy Birthday to our Blessed Mother.
Moms are so important that God Himself, the Son of God, Jesus Christ had a mother. So if you’re wondering if anybody really appreciates all the hard work and sacrifice of being a good mom – God does! And so do we. Happy Mother’s Day!
The men and women of Engine 88/Ladder 38 were kind enough to invite me to stay for lunch. Father Jonathan Morris, the local pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, helped prepare and serve the meal.
I’m leaving today to lead a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and I carry your intentions with me. Life is a pilgrimage! We come from God, and we’re destined to return to Him for all eternity. A religious pilgrimage is that in microcosm.
@thegnewsroom
This Sunday in Bethlehem, all seems calm and bright, and it is for us – we feel safe and secure. That wasn’t true last night. Right now things look good, and we’re grateful for that. Thanks for all your expression of concern.
@thegnewsroom
This morning I visited the Saint Frances Cabrini Shrine. Mother Cabrini had a special devotion to the sick, so I thought it would be very effective to come here and approach Jesus through the intercession of our beloved Saint Frances Cabrini. Your intentions are with me.
Merry Christmas to all! Today we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. May we all spend the day with loved ones and friends in prayer and Thanksgiving for all of our blessings!
Blessed Sunday! I wanted to let you know that this evening I'm leaving for our Lady's shrine in Fatima, Portugal. Remember me in your prayers while I'm away, and I'll remember you in mine.
On this day of supreme joy and hope – life conquering death as Jesus rises from the dead – we have a touch of Good Friday, with the very tearful news from Sri Lanka. This reminds us that the Cross is always with us, but thank God the Resurrection of Jesus is always with us.
Thanks again for all the questions I've received on social media. This week's question: Does Jesus love us even if we don't go to Church? You bet He does! One thing we learn from His Good News is that Jesus always loves us. Come back when you can -- I'll see you at Mass!
When I arrived as archbishop here over ten years ago, former NYC mayor Ed Koch told me there were two great women who always welcomed the immigrant and the refugee to New York -- one was Lady Liberty; the other was Holy Mother Church.
I’m in Washington, D.C. at St. Patrick’s Church where hundreds of young people will gather before we march in witness to the Culture of Life, to protect the innocent baby in the womb. Join us in prayer.
Today is Saint Patrick's Day. It's a bit somber this year and rightly so -- our parade has been canceled and our Mass has been scaled way back. We need the intercession of Saint Patrick for our beloved city. Saint Patrick, pray for us.
Today is the Feast of Saint Joseph. He is the foster father of Jesus, the patron saint of fathers, refugees, laborers, families, and those who are dying and also the protector of the Church. We ask for his powerful intercession today. Saint Joseph, pray for us.
If you really want to see the Church in action, it's here in Krakow. You'll see hundreds of refugees who are being embraced and welcomed! Thank you to the Archdiocese of Krakow,
@orderofmalta
,
@CNEWA
,
@iamcaritas
,
@KofC
, and many more. They are the Church.
Morning, everyone! You are all in my prayers especially in these difficult times. In times of trouble or sickness, we can always turn to Mary, the mother of Jesus. She's our mother too because Jesus gave her to us. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us.
Don’t give me any of that “the Church is closed” nonsense! “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord” and He’s sure not on sabbatical!

We didn't know for sure if we would be able to get to Ukraine, but thanks be to God, we made it. One of the reasons we came is to show you where your generosity is going.
Tomorrow is
#InaugurationDay
. I don't care where you stand on the political spectrum. We owe it to our new president to pray with and for him. We pray that he will do his work with honor, integrity, and justice. We ask that Almighty God bless our new president,
@JoeBiden

Happy Monday everybody! Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes. You’ve probably heard of Lourdes, it’s known for healing. Most of the time when we think of “healing,” we think of physical healing – but there’s also interior healing, healing of the heart and soul.
There’s a touch of sadness in our celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday this morning. We see people in places of worship, which should be areas of peace, violated by fanatics. It’s an attack on religion. We wont let them win — that’s our prayer this morning.
Jesus tells us there are three things essential for the forty days of Lent – prayer, penance, and charity. Make sure you’ve got all three. A blessed Ash Wednesday to all of you!
Today, the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, is a good time of year to thank God for our own families. Continued Christmas blessings!
Thanks for tuning in! I'm at St. Patrick's in Washington DC where we just finished our beautiful NY Pilgrim Mass. We will soon join the quarter of a million people marching to Capital Hill in defense of human life for this year's
@March_for_Life
. We need your prayers, God bless!
We're into an age of excessive individuals, all right. The new trinity of me, myself and I, seems to dominate. We know that's contrary to the very nature of the human person. The very nature of the human person needs God and needs other people.
Today I pray for the suffering people of Lebanon at the Shrine to Saint Charbel at

, everyone! Today we joyously proclaim Hosanna — praise to Jesus. We also look forward to Good Friday and remember how, by our sins, we put Jesus on the Cross.
Your Eminence,
@CardinalDolan
This morning, on your anniversary as Archbishop of NY, we stopped by to express our gratitude. Thank you for all your prayers of strength, encouragement, and safety. We are truly blessed to have you

I’m in Rome for a few days for meetings and thought I would share a few of my favorite places with you! My first stop is Santa Maria Maggiore (Saint Mary Major), one of four Papal Basilicas. I’m glad to tell you about it!
Happy Good News! He is Risen as He said. I'm out at Saint Stanislaus parish this Holy Saturday to bless the food, a beautiful Polish custom.
@thegnewsroom
May is the month of Mary. Today I'll travel to Lourdes w/300 people–100 very sick...when we're sick, we want to be with our mother. I'm also bringing many prayer requests from you. But today is doubly special b/c it's also the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker–Jesus' foster father!
