We are acutely aware of the impact home schooling is having on our pupils and parents. Next week will be a ‘Catch up, consolidation and well-being’ week. No new work will be set unless requested. Staff will be available to support learning and well-being:
Congratulations Year 11. Best results ever (Including last 2 years of CDGs)! Best average points score ever, best A/A* ever, best L2+ ever etc. Every measure beaten despite all you went through. We are so proud of you all.
Always great when a past pupil pops in, but this one is a bit special. Thanks to
@RobertEarnshaw
for the time he spent with the pupils today. Takes a lot of patience to take that many selfies!
Thank you to the anonymous parent who sent us a Christmas tree arrangement and a thank you card today. It has been a long term and this has cheered us all up on a grey Monday.
The end of another week! Thanks to staff for all their efforts again. Thanks to our students for their hard work and excellent behaviour. Thanks to parents for their support and understanding. These five weeks have been a real team effort. Enjoy your weekend.
Pleased to be able to help the people of Ukraine in a small way with a £1000 donation from our charitable fund. Proud of the pupils for organising. Student council meeting before the end of the week to see what else we can do.

Well done to our A Level students who picked up their results today. 100% pass rate! Best results ever! Good luck in your further studies at Oxford, Imperial, Exeter, Cardiff, Swansea etc, etc.....
Congratulations to everyone collecting their GCSE results. Some of the best of results we have ever had. We are so proud of you all. You will always be part of our Newman community. Remember, your are ‘a link in a chain, a bond of connections between persons’
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of past pupil, George Franks-Herbert. A fantastic young man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Whole school prayer was dedicated to him and his family this week. God Bless, George.
Today would have been the last day of term and next week is Holy Week. An Easter Reflection is on Google Classrooms. No regular work has been set, but individual teachers may have set assignments. We miss you all, we are here if you need us. Happy Easter, God Bless and stay safe.
A great afternoon playing our annual Staff v. Students in the George Franks-Herbert Cup. Great to see George’s family here and the money raised for the
@MarfanTrust
The school will remain open for pupils from Caerphilly and children in the area are still expected to attend. We understand that parents and pupils may be anxious. Our COVID-19 measures are in place, please contact us if you have any questions.
Last day of ‘statutory education’ tomorrow. Pupils will be bringing plenty of work home. Online resources already on website. Our interactive ‘Google Classroom’ resources will be ready and up loaded tomorrow. We will share details of how to pick up extra resources tomorrow.
Thanks to
@sarah4bridgend
and Joe Murphy for presenting the Jim Murphy Award last night. Both past pupils, the award is named after their father who taught at the school for 38 years. Jim is fondly remembered and greatly missed by the school community.
Thanks to the Kelleher family for attending Presentation Evening last night. Mr Kelleher presented the Rhys Kelleher Award, named in memory of his son. Rhys embodied the values of the school and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Congratulations to past pupil and daughter of much missed member of staff Jim Murphy,
@sarah4bridgend
on her election as MS for Bridgend and Porthcawl.
Huge congratulations to all of our GCSE students. You have done fantastically well. Best of luck in your next steps into sixth form, college or apprenticeships. God Bless.
Thank you to parents for all your hard work supporting home learning. We know how difficult it is for everyone. We hope you all have a restful half term. We will be back to help and support on Monday 22nd.
A lovely evening for our goodbye meal with our last ever Year 13! Bitter sweet, but couldn’t wish for a better group of young people. God bless and goodbye Year 13.
Although the second half of the week will be (hopefully) cooler, we will be continuing with PE kit as an option until the end of term. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
Don’t worry parents, we haven’t started charging yet, but we are in the Western Mail’s ‘Independent Schools’ pull out! Check out our website if you want to know more:
Hope you all had a good break. Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early tomorrow. Pupils may wear PE kit instead of uniform if they are worried about the heat. We will put our plans for the rest of the week on the website tomorrow.
Additional measures for Monday/Tuesday: No lessons ‘upstairs’ or classrooms identified us prone to heating up, lessons under our covered outdoor areas and the hall. No PE practical lessons. Water and ice pops available. Safe to say these won’t be normal days!
It will be incredibly hot on Monday/Tuesday. There are very few further mitigations that we can put in place. There is very little useful advice from Welsh Government or RCT. Follow link for our statement on these days:
A great start to our new partnership with
@stdavidscoll

Pupils in 7S (pictured) couldn't wait to lose themselves in their new books. Happy reading!
A very respectful and solemn silence in school today

Our school community has been hit by the loss of too many loved ones across this year. We continue to support each other in our prayers, actions and thoughts. We are always stronger together.
For those pupils who do have to self isolate, we are in the process of putting together packs of work and online resources. Bear with us over the next couple of days.
Well done to all the pupils who attended Presentation Evening last night. Always a great evening but even more special for the level of their achievements and it being the first one in three years.
We wish everyone a very holy, happy and restful Christmas. It has been a record breaking year. Thank you to those who have helped and supported us. Pupils return on Tuesday 7th January.
We hope you are able to take some time to celebrate and remember VE Day today. This is an important anniversary made even more poignant by the situation we find ourselves in. We pray for and say thank you to the ‘greatest generation’ for what they achieved 75 years ago today.
Great first day back with two year groups. Three year groups in tomorrow and everyone in on Monday. Thank you all for your patience, support and understanding.
Thanks again to
@maccarugby91
for delivering our key address at awards evening. Thanks to
@cardiff_blues

Thanks to the mayor of
@RCTCouncil
for inviting our two top performing students to meet him tonight. 26 A* GCSE grades between them! Well done Jac and Abbie.
RCT and Caerphilly have suspended all school transport for Thursday and Friday. As a result , the school will be closed for these days.
We will post updates about Monday on the weekend.
Thanks to Dr Lyn Evans from
@CERN
for taking the time to talk to our students today. Inspiring talk. Great for our students to see such an important scientist comes from the same backround as them.
@RCTCouncil
@CSCJES
Attending school tomorrow is not compulsory. Staying at home is safer for everyone. The school and school transport will be running for essential worker children and vulnerable pupils who have no other option.
Pupils can wear
@CNSRCT
PE kit for the rest of the week if they wish.
Must be full school kit. No other sport tops, shorts etc.
Alternatively, you can just leave your tie off!
Temperatures (and uniform) due to return to normal on Monday.
Well done to Jasmine who achieved A* A* A and will be studying Animal Behaviour at the University of Exeter (
@UniofExeter
).
We wish you all the very best in your studies Jasmine.
Normal timetable suspended for lessons 2&3 tomorrow for the football. Red themed non uniform day, £1. Quite areas and non-football areas for those who prefer not to be involved. Everything as normal lessons 1,4&5. Come on Wales!

Thank you to everyone who supported us through our inspection this week. We’ll send out the report as soon as we can. We hope everyone has a holy, happy and restful Easter.
It is with sadness that we have learnt of the recent death of Gareth Morgan. Gareth was Head of Maths at Cardinal Newman for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
On the 14th April staff will be walking the 14 miles from school to Cardiff Bay in memory of member of staff, Iqbal Domun. They are raising funds for his charity

We are really proud of everyone of our Year 13. They are moving on to great employment, fantastic graduate apprenticeships or wonderful university places. Over half will be going to Russell Group universities and two to Oxford. Well done all!
