This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI.
Today marks ten years since losing my son Brendan (pictured at right with my son Patrick on the left) and we miss him every single day. Love you B and the legacy you left behind for LGBTQ+ people in sports โค๏ธ
Fun fact: my dad left our birthday celebrations to make this trade and at the time I said something like โhow will you remember this decision.โ Fondly, it turns out. Hall of fame return on investment.
Got a lot of really kind notes wishing me well in my new role, then the following from Ryan Getzlaf: โCongrats Burkie great to see you back in the game. Never were very good on tv anyway!!โ Good to know Iโll always have former players who keep me humble ๐
My sincere apologies to
@kandre_miller
and his family. These disgusting, cowardly, racist attacks on KโAndre Miller embarrass the entire hockey community. KโAndre, the NHL community canโt wait to officially welcome you, we are so happy to have you.
Iโm the proud dad of an LGBTQ son and five children who join me in ensuring the world is a better place in Brendanโs memory. The Burke family stands with the LGBTQ community this Pride month and always ๐ณ๏ธโ๐

"In a house with a grumpy dad, a grumpy older brother, this kid was always happy." - Brian Burke
Brendan Burke came out to the hockey world in a very public manner, and today his story serves as a road map of inspiration and action.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked in this passionate sports town. Thank you to FSG, Mario Lemieux, David Morehouse, management and coaches, and especially to our great group of players. Best of luck to the Penguins and their incredible fan base in the future.
Great news for the hockey community today. Congratulations and thank you to all of you who made your voices heard in support of LGBTQ+ inclusion in hockey- especially the courageous Travis Dermott.
The NHL, NHLPA and Player Inclusion Coalition met early last week about the Pride Tape policy, after initial backlash. There was another meeting involving the Coalition on Monday.
Travis Dermott could have pushed it over the goal line but discussions about the ban were ongoing.
So sad and moving to see the tweets about Kobeโs pride in being a
#girldad
. I have been thinking of Kobe and Gianna with a heavy heart and lots of love for all the proud

out there.
Proud to support Carl and his decision to come out as the first active gay player in the NFL. I hope other sports executives will join me in publicly expressing their support as well! ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
Not many people can get me to crack a smile, but seeing our daughters graduate today made the two of us really proud. Congrats
@DavidAmber
and the Amber family and to all the other amazing grads!
Congratulations and thank you to Justin for sharing his story. His โLetter to His Younger Selfโ is well worth reading. Another brave member of the LGBTQ+ community making the hockey world a better place.
For Assistant Athletic Trainer Justin Rogers, the path to understanding his identity as a gay man working in sports took time.ย
Now, with the

, Rogers is living authentically with a team that knows his sexuality โ
Merry Christmas to you and your families! Like so many of you, we canโt be together with everyone this holiday so we are making the best of it. Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!
We need to re-open intelligently here in Toronto. Follow the rules. Stay at home if you can. If you need to go out, wear a mask. Maintain social distancing. Wash your hands frequently, do not touch your face. Stay home if you feel sick. There is a smart way to open things up!
On behalf of the entire
@penguins
organization, congrats to Katie Guay on becoming the first female referee in AHL history. We are honored it happened in Wilkes-Barre! Coaches said it was a great debut.
It takes hard work, talent, preparation, toughness, and luck to have a long career in the NHL. To play as long as Patty Marleau has, it also takes character, leadership, and tremendous people skills. Congrats on a legendary run!
Throwback to last year with this incredible Brian Burke Halloween costume. ๐๐

I have two new hockey heroes after todayโs visit to Foothills Hospital to visit Ryan Straschnitzki

(of Olds). Just amazing young men.
Three years ago to this day, we experienced a loss like no other. We continue to hold close to our hearts, the 16 lives that were lost and show support for the 13 lives that carried forward. We remain,

Thank you to the

organization and fans for all your support. Southern Alberta is a great place for hockey and I feel lucky to have called Calgary home ๐๐ฅ๐
Iโll miss Mike Bossy. HHOF sniper, one of the greatest goal scorers in history. But also truly a kind man, a soft-spoken gentleman. Rest In Peace, Boss.
April 6, 2018 is a day the Humboldt Broncos organization, along with the hockey world, will never forget.
Today and every day, we remember and pay tribute to all 29.
Always in our thoughts and prayers.

After an incredibly brave and difficult battle with cancer, our dad has passed away. My family is so proud of him and the way he fought.

Phil was getting crushed in the media so I asked him if he wanted me to make space for him, go on a rant, yell at a reporter, whatever. He said โthe only guys I care about the guys in the room. I appreciate it, but save your breath, Iโm good.โ (1/2)
My kids are not impressed by the jerseys or the Cup but are pumped about this rating, thank you! And proud to stand with and for LGBTQ+ athletes, itโs a true honour.
So sad to hear of Georgeโs passing. One of the first Indigenous players in NHL history, captain of the Leafs, and one of their 100 greatest players of all time. Thinking of his family and friends, what an incredible legacy.
The

On a young NHL player agent coming out, and the heart-warming support heโs got from some of the gameโs biggest stars.
Here is Bayne Pettingerโs (

(2/2) Phil takes a lot of heat, but he was great for me in the Olympics and Toronto. Low maintenance player and treated any child with cancer (as a survivor himself) like royalty. Couldnโt wait to make them feel special.

His dad grabbed me at the draft and said โIโm Nazemโs dad, if he ever gives you any trouble, just punch him in the head and call me.โ Great family and I loved having Naz.

My daughter
@mollysburke
sent me this (blurry) memory from six years ago on my first day as a member of the

organization. Grateful for my time with the organization and the amazing fans in Calgary (not to mention my daughter!)
