Mr Sunak demands an inquiry into who leaked the information about his family's residence & tax status.
I for one would be much more interested who knew and kept it a secret.
When your car is broken, you ask a mechanic. Your tooth aches, you see a dentist. Your house, designed by an architect, was built by a builder. Your child is taught by qualified teachers, your hair cut by trained professionals. Only your Covid advice comes from Dave on Facebook.
Being German, I am regularly told that given our history of authoritarianism, dictatorship, discrimination, & oppression, it is no longer my right or place to call out others.
On. The. Contrary.
My country's history shows that it is my & all our responsibility to do just that.
The German edition of Saturday Night Live has this:
"During her reign,
#QueenElizabethII
received 11 male prime ministers, 3 female prime ministers, and Boris Johnson."
The German in me gets quite upset when
#BorisJohnson
calls us his "European friends".
It's clear he has all but disdain for us. He is disrespectful, manipulative & betrays our trust. He tries to play us. He bullies & blackmails us.
What kind of friend would do that, pls?
#Brexit
I am genuinely puzzled. I've not seen or heard from

at all since he left hospital. Raab is not stepping in. The daily briefings are done by an array of failing or insignificant cabinet ministers. It's a complete void.
Who is governing this country?

As a fmr Australian migration officer, I can't even tell you how painful it is to read today's Commons reports. There are fair, humane migration schemes all over the world if you need blueprints. The UK's is not a migration policy, it's anti-migration. It's racist & xenophobic.
Every time an SNP MP rises to speak in the Commons they're disrespected, disregarded & sneered. Yet, they still take their seats, get up, and speak. Into the void, over the sneer, against the noise. These are elected representatives of the people. At today's or any other debate.
@Peter_Shilton
Wait. So if I elect a government democratically I have to be happy with everything it does for 5 years? And if I'm not, rather than criticise it, I have to leave? Do you see how your tweet is just not very good?
I've come from Germany to join today's
#peoplesmarch
not just to oppose
#Brexit
, but all it stands for:
The loss of honour, decency & kindness, the celebration of hate, nastiness & exclusion, nationalism, xenophobia & racism, lies & manipulation.
This *cannot* be our future.
1/4 ๐งตThis is unsolvable. This government has to resign. Months squandered to select from a broad range of candidates, most of them inadequate, to settle for the worst. Enough. ERG ideology is sinking the country. This government's done. This party's done. Call an election. Now.
In this country, in online pharmacies and in drugstores, you can now buy tests that will tell you whether your respiratory illness is RSV, the flu, or Covid.
You think it makes no difference? Think again.
@ThatTimWalker
There's a war in Ukraine & a virus killing 2.266 people in the UK just last week & the Daily Mail's front page? Dan Hodges & Sarah Vine defending hate speech.
I pity every tree that had to die to print this.
In 72 hours, thousands of EU citizens who have lived in the UK for years, often decades, will become illegal. They will lose their right to stay in their home, be with their families, have the right to work, or receive health care. They're your neighbours, they love this country.
The Mirror says, Carrie Johnson is getting weary of the pressure in No. 10.*
Good. She's got it. It's not *supposed* to be a party!!! It's a job that comes with enormous responsibility, strain, challenge and a mountain of problems.

When you look at propaganda in 1930s Germany, you'll be astounded how crude, transparent & unsophisticated it was. You wonder how it ever managed to manipulate people. And yet it worked. Now look at the tweets issued by the Home Office these days. I can't tell a difference.
Looking at Priti Patel's upbringing, I see many (if not most) sources online say her parents fled Uganda ahead of (or due to) Idi Amin's expulsion of all Asian immigrants.
This does not seem to be accurate.
Let me explain:
Evgeny Lebedev who lives in London, holds British citizenship, owns the Evening Standard & has been appointed to the House of Lords by his good friend, the fmr Prime Minister, is complaining about Russophobia in the UK.
Irony has just fallen out of a window.
Boris Johnson can't hand over his phone, he says, for security reasons. In response, GCHQ, MI5 & MI6 said there is โno reasonโ why Mr Johnsonโs old phone canโt be switched on securely.
It's just so darling how everyone assumes he means UK security...
I'm here in Germany, reading your lovely, sad, determined, fearful tweets about leaving. To me, your home will always be mine. You(r country) will always be European. And until someone slings a rope around the island & drags it away, you're not going anywhere.

Priti Patel said Putin might try to use Ukrainian women & children to infiltrate the UK. They keep telling you this, but the UK's biggest threat does not come from outside or abroad. The greatest danger, most serious security risk to the UK right now are Mr Johnson & his cabinet.
All across the UK, and tonight in Hull, there are people who lose their jobs & businesses. Hundreds of people devastated tonight. And for what? Farage's smirk & Johnson's ambition. They just sank an entire industry.
@MhairiBlack
An extraordinary speech. A voice of decency, for democracy, and compassion. Speaking from Germany, where we still, every day, make an effort to learn from history & watch out for the dangers of fascism, I agree with your assessment. You were right to say it out loud.
Of course we can "afford" a welfare state that cares for the vulnerable, young, old, infirm & people in need. Some just don't want to. We see it in this pandemic. Some think it's only fair we all fend for ourselves, sink or swim, live or die. That's not a world I want to live in.
France has just announced a campaign for early Covid19 booster vaccination & intends to make it
accessible to all.
An urgent recommendation is being made for at-risk groups.
It will be free for everyone.
We all have Jacinda Arderns, Erna Solbergs, Angela Merkels, Katrรญn Jakobsdรณttirs and Mette Frederiksens in our respective countries. We just need to elect them.
As a former Australian migration officer & from my experience:
A vast majority of people who are against immigration know next to nothing about it.
Nothing about the migrants, their motivation, the national/EU laws, the benefits or the challenges.
They're racists. That's all.
I'm not sure how many people appreciate that the French president, speaking for a nation also very proud, of its culture, its history, its language, delivered this tribute in English. It's a sign, a mark of respect.
Or they could go to

Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus

Denmark
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Latvia

Spain
Sweden & work there without a visa ...

Germany here.
I have a good idea how Angela Merkel would react if she saw this. She'd briefly laugh, shrug & turn her attention to today's pressing tasks. The virus, vaccinations, people's wellbeing & livelihoods. She is a scientist & extremely good at ignoring noise & nonsense.
#TommyRobinson
is leaving the UK, because he feels in danger & unsafe. At the sametime, he denies others the right to come to the UK when they feel in danger & unsafe.
His campaign has been one of violence, hate, nationalism & racism. Yet he expects to be welcome elsewhere. How?
It now falls to Priti Patel to appoint a new Commissioner qualified & determined to root out the racism, homophobia, bullying, and discrimination in the Met Police.
Irony. Dead.
My family lived in both Germanys.
I grew up w/ the reality of separation, watched it cementing, then softening, then disappearing. With my own eyes, I have seen the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Sanity will prevail in the end. Even if it takes time. Don't give up.

From Germany:
You rescued us. Twice. It is because of you I live in freedom.
We're so grateful. We're not your enemy. We don't wish you any harm. Please, don't think that.
Good luck on your journey. You're not far away. Knock on our door any time. You're always welcome.
@JamesTCobbler
Making people wear clothing or signs that identify them as offenders is only one thing: humiliation.
Scientifically, humiliation is the strongest human emotion. Stronger than love, sorrow, or hate. Nothing, but nothing good comes of it. It's mere cruelty.
Some yrs ago, around Xmas, I went to my bank. That yr, I had made pesto as gifts for neighbours etc. I took a jar for my loan officer who excused herself & returned explaining she'd asked her manager if it was ok to accept this. That's where integrity starts. With a jar of pesto.
Two tweets I saw this evening jokingly claim that people in the EU are sitting back with popcorn, watching with delight as problems in the UK mount.
I just want to say that I've no schadenfreude nor pleasure in watching the UK struggle. Nor do I know anyone who does.
Tonight, again, I look at the UK, in disbelief.
Since 2016, at every corner, every junction, the wrong, the worst turn. Ignorant, arrogant choices. Abandonement of people, of nations. Sacrifice of principles, of laws. Systematic erosion of democracy, equality, fairness. A mess.
It's not a Chinese virus or a Trump vaccine. It's not Britain's success.
It is a worldwide pandemic, a human tragedy, and an international rescue effort.
Some find it hard to wrap their narrow minds around that.
Thinking about it rationally, what are the chances that 2.7m people feel spontaneously and simultaneously too lazy to work? Is it not much more plausible that they are, in fact, ill? And would it not be better journalism to explore why and report about that?
So during

, the Prime Minister is not allowed to lie and no-one is allowed to call him a liar.
In both cases, the Speaker has to intervene.
Why doesn't he?
I won't even discuss the UK's racism report, because even I as a white, middle-class, university-educated, privileged woman who went to a Catholic girls school knows this is absolute bullocks.
Frankly, I don't care what anyone says. When I see someone drowning or lost at sea, I will save them. And I honestly don't give a toss what you think. This is not a debate.
Steve Tuckwell, new Tory MP for Uxbridge (recount permitting) blames Sadiq Khan's Ulez policy for the Labour loss. The very policy introduced by ... [drum roll] ... his own predecessor, Boris Johnson.
Irony is dead & I wonder DO VOTERS NOT INFORM THEMSELVES AT ALL?!?
Can we all please remember that it was Emmanuel Macron who made Boris Johnson lock down?
It was Macron who saved lives on either side of the Channel by curbing interaction & slowing the spread.
It was France that saved English lives.
