It's a great day to visit your relative or community member who is at Bellevue Hospital and remind them that they are loved and thought of.
Our visiting hours are 10am-12pm, then 4pm-6pm. 🤗
We all go through challenges from time to time, and sometimes when you ask a friend 'yuh good, G?' or 'Hey. U ok?' the answer may be no... or a line from that song (you know the one). What do you say after that?
We asked a few experts here at Bellevue for suggestions. Here goes:
At the end of the day guys, a night.
Thank for sharing today, whether you replied with your true feelings or just joined in the jokes.
We may not be able to respond to every one, but don't be shy to check on ur friends who quoted this. Share the resources in this thread!
Definitely something worth exploring. We're in a phase or transitioning to two distinct facilities so we can better meet our clients' needs, and this is one service that definitely deserves being considered. Thank you 🙏🏾
Honestly, if Bellevue had a facility where you can go to just disconnect for like 30days I’d absolutely go.
Get likke daily therapy check ins, quiet time, option to do something active, no phone or internet access, food and a nice room.
Sign me tf upppp.
Earlier today we had a farewell celebration for our Senior Medical Officer, Dr Myo Kyaw Oo, who is retiring after serving Bellevue Hospital and our clients for 33 beautiful years.
Hi Karen, we have a family support group meeting on the last Thursday of every month here at Bellevue Hospital. You can suggest it to this mom. Our next meeting is next Thursday, September 28, at 2pm. 🫂
People are going through it. Just had a long talk with a very sweet lady with an adult schizophrenic son. She just wanted me to listen. Tears. It's rough. Rough. Sigh. Can anyone recommend a support group for families?
You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human. ❤️
Even if you're not where you want to be yet, your progress is worthy of being celebrated. Every small step you take toward your goal is a success.
You're doing great! 🤗
Kind conversations provide opportunities for us to better understand each other, and share information and resources.
We invited Valiant to Bellevue for a tour of our facilities and a sober conversation with our CEO on the impact that his song 'Mad out' is having on...

You may not be able to go back and make a brand new start, but you can start today and make a brand new ending.
Happy... umm... Happy whatever day it is 🤗
Getting a few questions frequently so answering here:
1. No, you can't check yourself in for milo. Sorry 😅
2. We can't send you money. Bfr.
3. No, we can't take your money for a weekend stay. We're a public healthcare facility so we don't have user fees.
@elementofthe_6
Oook we see this one may have gone a lil bit too far. We're sorry. 🙂What we meant to say is:
"Sorry, we don't offer short term stays at this time. We do, however, have a park that's open to the public where you can come and unwind for a few." 🤗
After last night's tremor, many of us may be experiencing some symptoms of Seismophobia today. You guessed it... that's an extreme fear of earthquakes.
It's normal to experience this heightened agitation or anxiety after a tremor.
Here's what you can do about it: 🧵
Congratulations to Deborah Gordon

5. If you just need to sit on a wellness bench for a few, we have some in Oo Park here on the hospital grounds. It's free.
Have you ever been to Bellevue?
Many persons are surprised to learn that although our main focus is on mental wellness, we operate very similar to other public hospitals in Jamaica where our clients' physical health is concerned.
Great question. 😅 It's 'Ooooh'
It's named after Dr Myo Kyaw Oo, our Senior Medical Officer, who has served at Bellevue for 33 years in various capacities and will be retiring this month. 💚
3. Remember it's their time to share
Some challenges are very relatable and they immediately remind you of a similar experience you had/ve. Be mindful in expressing this. It can be comforting to the person to know they're not alone, but you don't want to shift the focus to you
2. Listen attentively
Sometimes that's really all we need. No advice, no promises of things getting better, just someone to listen to what we have to say. Try to listen to understand. Ask gentle questions to help them express their feelings and show that you're interested.
Hey friend 👋🏽
This Sunday, September 10, will be observed as World Suicide Prevention Day.
Fun and joke aside, what's one thing you're hoping for or looking forward to in your life?
Earlier today we commissioned the use of our very own ambulance, which will primarily be used to transport our clients (patients) to and from other medical facilities for appointments and during medical emergencies.
1. Ask if they want to talk about it.
Because sometimes they don't; and that's okay too. If they don't want to talk, don't press them. Just let them know you're always there for them.
7. Be genuine
Conversations can be hard, especially those that around emotional and mental health. But remember that this person confided in you because they felt comfortable enough to do so. Long after they forget what you said, they will remember how you made them feel. 💚
For those of you who are always saying "Ooh I need to go check out the new park at Bellevue" today is the perfect day!
We're having some of our patients' artwork on display and for sale in Oo Park between 1-3pm.
Only $1000. Proceeds in aid of our Occupational Therapy Unit. 🤗
4. Offer advice sparingly
Sometimes by the end of sharing, persons arrive at their own solutions. Sometimes there is none that's immediately clear. That's OK. Try not to give advice unless they ask for it, and if you do, remember it's your suggestion, not 'the right thing'.
5. You don't need to explain
It's normal to try to rationalise things to comfort others, but you don't have to explain people's problems away. Bad things happen sometimes and we don't know why, and we don't have to give our theories, no matter how strongly we believe them.
6. Be open to feedback
No two people are alike, and what works for one person may not work for another. Even experts say the wrong things sometimes, and not everything you say will be received the way you intended. Apologise and use the feedback to adjust your approach.
1/2 Can you imagine that tourists are now coming to Oo Park? Yes, tourists!
We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community as we work towards reducing the stigma surrounding mental health in Jamaica.

It's National Heroes' Day, and today as we celebrate our seven national heroes, we also recognise the heroes among us – to those who stand for truth and justice and make sacrifices for the benefit of others, even with no promise of reward or recognition.

Bellevue is French for 'Beautiful view' so we always try our best to live up to it, and to use our outdoor spaces as part of therapy.
Oo Park is free and open to the public from 7am to 7pm on weekdays, and until 5pm on weekends. 💚

Poui in bloom at Bellevue.
The color yellow means joy and happiness. When the poui tree blooms we think of the color of sunshine, which brings positive feelings and hope.
The work we do here at Bellevue is to inspire hope and positivity to those we serve.

Hey RJ
👋🏽 We don't have any posted vacancies right now, but you can share your resume with us and let us know if there's a specific area you'd like to work in. Your wealth of experience is a plus. 🫶🏽
Don't apply for dietetics though. We haven't forgotten your cucumber recipe. 🫠

Big up all the beautiful and talented women that worked tirelessly to get Oo Park to the beauty it is today. Without your skills it would not be the diamond gem it is.
Believe us when we say, Bellevue a di best! Good team that cares for people!

You know im passionate about mental health right.
I think Bellevue should be rebranded completely.
There is stigma against mental health and stigma around the hospital itself.
I would rename it 🤔
Jamaica Mental Wellness Centre? 🤔
What would you name it?

True... But we have one for you "Pound a fret cyah pay ounce a debt"

The word is perseverance.
Keep going, keep trying, keep believing, and keep doing all the things you can to make tomorrow a better day.
#mentalhealth
is health.
1. Step outside. You may feel a little better after a few minutes in an open space.
2. Breathe as deeply as you can. (We know we say this a lot, but that's only because it tends to help).
3. Move your body. Pace back and forth if that helps, or do some stretches for a bit.
