I've struggled with my #MentalHealth over the last year which drove me to drink & occasionally take drugs. I will be going into a detox next week for up to 6 weeks. It is the hardest tweet I've ever had to write. I just hope people forgive me. I'm so embarrassed & ashamed. Sorry.

When I was in care I had #51moves to 37 different placements. I had 33 convictions before I was 18. At 19 my son was born & my best friend died the same day. My mom was in care & I was in care. 18 years later my son hasn't been in care & I haven't had another conviction since. 😁

I don't understand why in 2021 our children who come into care to be cared for don't automatically receive therapies, therapeutic interventions or mental health support immediately. Please invest in our children + give them the best opportunities we can for them to move forward.

My handsome boy with his girlfriend. My biggest achievement is breaking the cycle of Care for him so he never had to experience what I did. He is 19 in 4 weeks. No social workers. No time in care. Nothing will ever top this achievement. I could have been a better dad but I tried.

I'm on Ashdale ward, the dales, calderdale hospital, Halifax. Just to let you know. Thanks again for your support. I have a bedroom, bed and en suite which is clean. Now I can start to recover and hopefully receive the treatment and care I need at this awful time. 💙❤💜

Yesterday was the toughest day I've had in a long time. My HEAD ( #MentalHealth ) wanted me dead. My disease of #Addiction wants me dead. After a five hour stand off pretty much on the edge (Literally) I turned around and went home. I didn't USE either. Just for the day, I won. 🙏

My sister is a star. She had a child at 14 & wasn't predicted a good future. She has 3 beautiful kids, a mortgage & has just been promoted to manager at her work. She works with adults with disabilities in a home. She is so understanding, good natured & kind! So proud of her! ❤

After living in a one room bed sit for the last 4 years I'm getting the keys to my new place tomorrow. I'm moving to a new one bedroom apartment with my own bedroom and bathroom. It has been a strange and difficult year but looks like it will be a good ending to the year. 😁

I stand in solidarity with Social Workers. As a child I hated Social Workers because they moved me. I hated any kind of authority figure to be honest. As an adult I have nothing but respect for Social Workers who are undervalued & aren't given the credit they deserve. Much ❤

I've seen people I know in town getting drunk. Asking if I wanted to stay out with them drinking. I had a coffee and left. Didn't even sound or look appealing to me. It wouldn't end well and I know this. Now at home feeling pretty sad and low. At least I'm safe. Thanks lord. 🙏

I've had a visit from the Operations Director for @allofusinmind & I have accepted the apology. I have so much love for our NHS Trust & the people who work in it. I've worked with our NHS & got many friends within it. Being honest I'm impressed with their response to this. NHS💙

Today is a step forward. I have been discharged from drug & alcohol services. 50 days clean of everything. I was told they wish they could bottle what I'm doing for my recovery. Apparently they don't often see people as dedicated to recovery like I am. Just for today I'm happy.

I don't care who knows I was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. I'm not ashamed. If it wasn't for being sectioned I wouldn't be here. What about giving Health Care Assistants and Nurses a pay rise? They are so undervalued and underpaid. Their saving lives. #mentalhealth

Sick of hearing how children in care are bad or naughty. Let's put this right once and for all. About 63% of children come in to care because they have been abused or neglected. About 1% of children come in to care for socially unacceptable behaviour. Think before you speak!!

At 18 I'd come out of a YOI and was abandoned by the state to a b&b eating cornflakes with water. My son at 18 is working as a plumber and has bought his own car and learning to drive. He is miles ahead of me when I was 18. I'm a very proud dad & so proud of my boy. #ECLCM #ECM

I'm very proud of my sister. She had her first child at 14. Her teacher told her to get a pet rabbit & get rid of IT. Dr said get rid. She now has 3 children. Her kids have never been in care. She's been a successful manager of an adults with disabilities home for 10 years. ♥️

Just to be clear the nurses here don't agree with this and some are contacting CQC themselves. And will support a complaint from me. I don't blame the nurses it's above them. They are not happy either. As bad as this is I won't abuse or swear at them I have too much respect.

I feel even better today than I was yesterday. It has been a very difficult last 7 or 8 days but I'm still here & still clean. I will get my 90 days clean & serene next Friday. Having a #MentalHealth crisis & still not picking up substances is truly amazing. 1 HUGE POSITIVE!

The day my son was born, my best friend from in care died. The same day. I made a promise that my son would never go in care and experience what we did. My son is 20 and never ended up in care or experienced what we did. That's my biggest achievement. 🙏

To say the last year has been challenging is an understatement. 3 serious suicide attempts & time on #MentalHealth wards. I've put every last bit of strength & hope into my recovery. I am grateful to still be here & doing well in all areas of my life when I thought it was over.

I'm not sure how I made it to 38. As a kid in care I was told I'd be locked up for a long time or have a bleak future or be dead by 21. My life has had many ups & downs but I'm still here. I haven't had another conviction for nearly 20 years. Thanks for Birthday wishes. 🙏❤💙

Over the last weeks I've been in such a bad place mentally. I was completely consumed in the most horrible thoughts. I feel like I'm coming back out of the other side now. I wouldn't wish how I've been feeling on anyone. Your support and kindness has been inspiring #MentalHealth

If I'm honest with you all this episode of depression & anxiety has been the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I didn't want to be here anymore, I thought my life was over and I had nothing to live for. I'm still struggling but I'm still here and fighting! #MentalHealth

I've achieved many things in my life but this one is special. Today I achieved 30 day clean after finishing the substitute medication. I felt ashamed & guilty for so long but not now. I've almost finished my step 1 of the 12 step program of NA. I'm proud of myself.

It's important not to give up on children in care when they display challenging behaviour. This behaviour is telling you something. You need to build trust + go through the bad days to get to the good ones. Show them they matter no matter what. That's what I missed as a child.

19 years ago today at 11.23am my boy was born. I was proud & happy. Just a few hours later I found out my best friend from being in care had died. Today is a mixture of emotions. I said then my son will never experience what we did. 19 years on & he hasn't experienced any of it.
