Thank you to Anna and Olivia for braving the elements and riding the AppalCART today. They were our 1,000,000 & 1,000,001 passengers for the year and we aren't even halfway through. Thank you to all of our passengers for helping us in our push towards a record breaking ridership.
We gave it a try, but AppalCART is closing for the day due to the slick road conditions. This is a very wet and slick snow event. Please exercise caution if you must travel. (01-17-18)
AppalCART has a fare free fixed route system in Boone. Fixed routes are free to all passengers. We are on our summer break schedule and ridership is light. Why not give AppalCART a try instead of driving around Boone looking for parking. It is free, so what have you got to lose?
Update: AppalCART will not roll buses until 12:00 PM. We apologize for any delays, but conditions are not such that it will be safe for our buses to roll until that time.
We start the decision process at 4:00 AM. Our staff works with ASU to determine if it will be safe to run our buses and what time will be optimal to start classes. Sometimes conditions change right as we are starting and force us to stop where we are.
We received this amazing surprise from four App State students Sandy, Emily, Sophia, and Sophia. These gifts and notes from students meant so much to all of our team here. Thank you so much to all who contributed to this thoughtful and kind gift to our drivers!!
AppalCART will demo a double decker bus from Alexander Dennis until 10/8/21 for Pop105 Bus 2.
Note: The bus is not equipped with the TransLoc devices and will not show up on the app. Schedule times for Pop105 Bus 2 at .
@felicityisfab
Due to our terrain, our buses are equipped with brake retarders that automatically engage and slow the bus when the driver lets off the gas. Trust me, working brakes are a good thing in the mountains.
AppalCART ridership is putting up some record numbers. Monday's fixed route ridership was 14,428 and Tuesday's was 14,475. Every trip on the AppalCART is one less car on the road in Boone!
AppalCART will be unveiling our first battery electric bus on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 6 pm. The event will take place at 283 Martin Luther King Jr St, Boone, NC (Parking lot across from the old Boone National Guard Armory).
Our NextBus will be down intermittently over the next few weeks. We are moving NB hardware and our radios from old buses to new. We can't change both at the same time. A bus must have a radio before it can go into service. It takes a little time to coordinate. Starts 2/8/18 Thx.
AppalCART Routes will stop at 2:30 PM today. (12-08-17). The weather and roads are expected to continue to deteriorate the rest of the day. Please have a safe afternoon.
Important Tip: When you see your bus coming, give the driver a wave so he will know to stop. Some bus stops are served by more than one route and the driver doesn't know that you want them to stop unless you give a wave. If they don't stop, it is probably because they are full.
AppalCART will be closing all routes at 6:30 PM due to the potential for snow and ice this evening. No passengers will be picked up after 6:30 PM.
Forecast indicate the snow and ice could come as a quick burst this evening. Please plan accordingly. 2-19-19
The TSA security directive for mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs is in effect through April 18th. The App State and Town of Boone removal of their mask requirements does not impact public transportation.

The High Country’s transit authority is not just a free ride for residents and students. For the Watauga community, it’s a lifeline that keeps people working, keeps businesses humming, and keeps thousands of cars off our roads.

AppalCART will try to run on a regular schedule on Monday, December 11, 2017. Please allow plenty of time to get to your exams/ destinations due to the potential for icy roads and delays.
AppalCART buses will roll at 8 AM, Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Expect limited services. Travel ways in many of the apartment complexes and along some roads are not wide enough for buses to pass through safely. We will provide more details on limited service routes prior to 8AM.

@Ben_Simonette
Our limited service route provided transportation at the bottom of the hill. Road up to Cottages was not safe. All other roads along our routes were safe to use. It is the Cottages responsibility to clear that road and they usually do a good job. They were a little delayed today
Our recommendation is that you consider taking a bus that arrives at your destination earlier than needed in order to allow for potential or possible delays. Thanks and stay safe.
Welcome back to all the students who returned to Boone this weekend! Stay tuned as we share our COVID-19 protocols and answer your questions on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram (

for directing traffic at the Hardin St @ Howard St intersection today. This really helped keep our buses moving.

We apologize for the delays today. Traffic is very heavy around Boone due to visitors coming to the area for the Valle Country Fair, Woolly Worm Festival, and ASU Football Game. (10-19-20)
