@ healthcare professionals: when you have a non-white student doc and white student doc, but you choose to only look at and acknowledge the white student doc in conversation, that’s a microaggression!!!!!!!!!
There’s something so weird about being the only black person on a ward and overhearing multiple medical professionals saying that PC culture is too over the top, and that ‘people can’t take jokes/comments anymore’.
Dr Anthonia Adefolaju MBChB BSc (Hons)!! + I had the pleasure of delivering the graduate speech too! Still very much in disbelief🥹

Wild that the UK FPO decided to make such a big change to the way intercalated degrees will be considered with no notice halfway through the academic year.
When I was in year 7 my form tutor told my class racism in the UK didn’t exist. I was the only black girl in my class. I had to stand up and defend the fact that not only was this not the case, but that I had experienced racism both in that school and outside it. I was in year 7!
Still being in placement, having to dash up and down the country for F1 checks/housing, and working all simultaneously is really really starting to get to me. I actually wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, the situation is looking a bit impossible.
My exam is in less than 3 weeks, don’t know about any of the exam proceedings, just been informed we can’t apply for ECs and to top it all off I have to sit it at 1:30am. Annoyed isn’t the word.
I missed my a level results and ended up taking a gap year, reapplying for and getting into medical school - it was the best decision I’ve ever made!! Missing your grades isn’t the end of the road ☺️ good luck for

You know what? I hate it when a placement site changes your timetable with less than a day’s notice, especially when it means having to travel in when sessions were previously meant to be online.
Welcoming back face to face our year 4 students today; ipads, gloves, face coverings, lanyards and clinical skills teaching packs. Christmas has come early!

Making a promise to myself to report all microaggressions + racist experiences on the wards/in med school this year. No more stomaching rubbish - to freedom!!!!

I distinctly remember in my first med school professionalism lecture that we as med students were not allowed to refer to ourselves as doctors. But the gov can?? 🤨
We're immensely proud of our health & care staff who work round the clock to keep us safe.
It's fantastic there are over 13,700 more nurses & 7,800 more doctors working in our NHS - we're on track to deliver on our commitment of 50,000 more nurses.
I screamed when I opened this pack. 5 reusable surgical scarves/hijabs in a clean green folder.
20 seconds.
It took me just 20 seconds to tie this around my head.
This is why we speak out. Let's make this the norm!!
Thank you

My Ophthalmology rotation was this week - I watched an enucleation and didn’t pass out!! + I can sort of use a direct ophthalmoscope now! This is truly

This is lovely, but pls remember people (especially ethnic minorities)should not have to be exceptional to deserve decency and respect from the public!!
Can we remember...
Marcus Rashford is 23, raised £200m for kids to eat last year.
Jadon Sancho is 21, opened up new football pitches for those in the suburbs of London.
Bukayo Saka is 19, a voice for the youth of football today & helping local communities.

1st day back on wards after 1.5 years off!!
Good things:
-saw a cool surgery
-had a lovely theatre team who let me assist!
-spoke to some lovely patients
Bad things:
-7am start!! 😭
-was chased out of my scheduled theatre by a rather rude Dr
all in all, a mixed bag 😅
I pleaded with the Conservatives to find it in their heart to ensure children don't go hungry.
Tonight they voted against our proposals for Free School Meals this Christmas.
My name is Anthonia and I’m addicted to taking medical students home after their hospital on calls (even when I’m not on call) bc public transport at night is very scary😣😣😣
Don’t get me wrong, I can definitely see why the change to FPAS scoring with publications and extra degrees can (and most likely will) be beneficial - i just wonder why there was no prior warning before this change was implemented?
Filmed a video last week because I saw a incoming medical student say on their story that if you’re not a strong applicant you shouldn’t be applying for med school and i literally couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Check it out here!:

My heart is so broken for Saka, Rashford and Sancho - they (along with the rest of the England team) played so wonderfully and it’s disgraceful that many England fans will choose to voice their disappointment through racial abuse towards these lovely players.
Such an inspiring day at the Women in Surgery conference!! Lots of invaluable advice from some fantastic surgeons -lots to think about concerning a career in surgery!

Been to two med school graduations in the past four days and have barely been able to hold back tears at both. I’m so proud!! Excited to see this new wave of doctors!

Thank you to everyone who nominated us, we appreciate you all!
We’re coming back bigger and better for you all next year 🥳👏🏾
So on Monday evening, my wife was brought to
@uclh
hospital by an ambulance after an NHS 111 referral and was left for 2 hours with 10/10 abdominal pain that was so bad she was gasping for her breath and rolling around.
This thread is fantastic but this(!) takes the crown for me!! It’s so important that people have *realistic* idea of what’s actually going on in med school so they can make an informed decision apply for med school; 12hr study days are not a requirement of being a medic!!
Another point is that due to this increase in freely accesible information about career progression as a medic, it’s easier for younger students to have an idea about what they may be interested in the future, allowing them to pursue this from an earlier stage
As a minority it’s so upsetting and disheartening to have your so-called ‘Britishness’ be dependant on being exceptional at all times. When we’re winning, we’re British - but when we’re losing, we’re ‘just Black’. Big yikes.
Had the pleasure of attending

It was so nice to see all my old cohort again. Congratulations everyone!!🧑🏽🎓
Can we start paying black students for our free recruitment efforts, or weighing social justice work (which arguably has a bigger impact on our patients than a lot of academic research) more in admissions criteria?

Hats off to
@WorcCollegeOx
for placing all the students to whom they offered places this year - irrespective of their scores in the government's A level debacle. THIS is how you do it guys. Come on everyone, please follow suit 👏👏👏
Being one of ~8 black girls from year 7 to year 11 meant being afraid to stand up and call out covert and overt racism bc you didn’t want the teachers to call you disruptive, and when you did call it out amongst students it was rarely taken seriously.
