This!!!! It’s so important at every single stage!! The best way to prepare a child to be 4 is to allow them to be 3 ! It’s true of every stage though. I am passionate about this!!
Principle 1 The best way to prepare children for adult life is to allow them to be children (Bruce 2015). We are not advocates of 'school readiness'. We do not rush children through stages. We respect where they are and respect childhood as a stage in its own right. 🙋🏽♀️if you agree
When can I retire and make jewellery for a living!? This is my mindfulness school holiday activity. It’s like reading a novel - only ever happens in the school holidays!
Our children in Meithrin just love to dress up. They wanted to have more 'wedding clothes' so the practitioners took them to visit the local charity shops and together they created this beautiful new area. It has become a very popular space 😊
We have found that by making beach school and forest school part of our core curriculum offer, wellbeing and relationships are strengthening. Children are growing in confidence week by week and there is a real joy for learning not just during these activities but onsite too 💚
How much time and space to you give to block play? Not ‘construction area’ play but specifically block play? Not just early years but year 2 ? 3? Maybe 4 or more? Read below to see the positive dispositions that can be developed through block play that is uninterrupted&child led.
We recently transformed an unused space to a wood work area! Staff and children alike absolutely love it and just look at all the learning and development! This little boy had the most magical time at nursery today

We have had our beautiful workshop set up for almost 3 terms. It provides so many authentic learning opportunities for our children . Staff and children alike just love being in there. I highly recommend

training to get you started.
After all the positive comments on my wire work I thought I’d be brave and post some more. These are a few charms I’ve been making. Just having a go at the moment but think they might be pretty on a necklace or bracelet maybe 🤔
I really dislike the ‘elves’ drawing on children’s faces when they sleep. I’m not a massive fan of the elves anyway but I know and can see that they do bring magic and joy to some but drawing on children’s faces at as they sleep? Am I the only one who doesn’t like this?
I’m sure I’m preaching to the converted here but just incase this can encourage anyone to allow creativity to be just that - an opportunity for children to be creative
We started renting an allotment this year partly to use for my daughter’s home education with her dad. She loved showing me around today, we harvested corguette and cucumber and picked apples and blackberries then made this delicious crumble !
So blessed and honoured to work with a team of practitioners who understand and value the importance of

who want to share experiences with children in

Today our forest schoolers showed great risk taking skills by swinging across the steam, climbing and jumping from height.
At ECICC childhood is not hurried, it is seen as a precious time in its own right. We give children the freedom and space to wallow in their play. Childhood is respected & valued and we believe learning begins at birth and continues throughout life.
So incredibly moved by the joy & emotion of this evening! Honoured to have been able to share this tonight with inspirational colleagues and friends! what a great night for

we are all so proud of you

we ensure that the experiences and the slow pedagogy that we offer are authentic, exploratory, playful and active
Concentration, perseverance, precision, collaboration, team work, physical development, hand-eye coordination, mathematical development and so on and so on! So much learning and lots of fun!
This little boy started at

Absolutely lush evening with cluster schools and daycare staff discussing the importance of observation, and learning from each other. Great networking, lush cake and fabulous reflections

Personally I feel this is true for all ages not just early years
Long periods of uninterrupted play! I've known it's right in my heart for years and been providing these experiences for years but Froebel Trust training and supportive resources help us to articulate the 'why' behind what we offer. We know it's right for children but why?
"Froebel teaches us that children need uninterrupted stretches of time to engage deeply in their play and creative endeavours..." writes Rachel Griffiths in a new article about the need to make more time for

Oh what a night!! Thank you
@FroebelTrust
for bringing the annual lecture to Cardiff ! It was wonderful to see you all again and to hear professor Tina Bruce speak on the importance of play! A beautiful evening 💚
Play! Not an add on. Not a luxury. An absolute necessity as is observation! Observation is fundamental to a curriculum that is rich in play. Our eyes are our tools as practitioners. Allow time for uninterrupted play: observe, analyse , support, respond.
Really inspired by all the tweets about why playing throughout primary and beyond is so important. Play is a powerful driver for higher learning for so many reasons. Here are just a few. What would you add?

Froebelian educators create long periods of open-ended, uninterrupted time so that both children and adults can become deeply involved in play and other learning activities. Time is not 'filled' but freed from all unnecessary interruptions. (Tovey 2017: 42)

It never seizes to amaze me how wonderful our curriculum is! It's just fabulous. My favourite sentence, 'we should model a joyful approach to learning....' I still get palpitations when I read it 🤣

When your new office is next to Marks and Spencer’s and you accidentally buy lots of new work clothes. Essential for a new post right? Also who knew you don’t need to be over 50 to shop there!! Might I regret this when I see my mum in the same outfits though 🤦🏽♀️😩? Quite possibly!
I’m noticing some key misunderstandings out there regarding

no where does it state that continuous provision must now go. Infact it’s clear we should be building on foundation phase principles. Please read the section on pedagogy on the introduction
When all is quiet and the house still sleeps! Let there be reading and coffee!
I declare half term to be a reading week for my heart, brain and soul. A week of good food, good coffee and good books! Starting with good old Tina Bruce my first inspiration. If you know you know!
Love my new set up in my new beautiful office! Almost a month now since I’ve been in post and what a lovely place to work with community focussed, child centred and like minded people.

My husband took this photo many years ago. I was telling him the theme for this years' gathering is 'the difference in the sameness.' He then said... 'I found this photo, I think it's very Frobelian. What do you think?' I think he's right! They are all bricks washed up by the sea
Today I made a conscious effort to spend time in the English and Welsh nursery rooms, well mostly outdoors! It was wonderful to play, to chat to children and to observe them as learners and explorers! I was blown away by their confidence and their joy! Not many snaps - too busy!

We all found this the hardest principle to write. It's really tricky to articulate the why behind the importance of symbolic play and the reasons why phonics, writing and reading is not pushed too soon. Read the whole thread and we recommended Tina Bruce for further reading.
Creativity is used as a driving force when planning engaging experiences and effective environments, giving children the opportunity to present their own ideas in their own way.

Our clay project has been a real highlight this year. Next year we plan to build on this by introducing clay to our babies in baby room and following the project through into daycare 2 up to nursery 😊
From the introduction, to mark making to freedom with guidance our children have been exploring clay. They have squeezed, squashed, splattered, stamped, stretched, poked, pinched, rubbed, twisted, thrown and rolled using their fingers and whole body.
I taught myself cross stitch to help with cognitive functioning after havingcovid & for mindfulness. I’ve made loads of mistakes with the colours 🤦🏽♀️ but the next one will be perfect! I loved creating this and I’m chuffed that I’ve learnt a new skill even if not yet to perfection!
‘Let’s make a pair of shorts’ she said
‘I don’t have a pattern for shorts.’ I said.
‘I can make a pattern myself’ she said. And she did!
So we casually spent the last three hours making shorts from scrap fabric! I call that

Play is unscripted and freely chosen or else I think it will cease to be play (Clark 2023). Play is personally directed and intrinsically motivated. Play is open ended and has no predetermined external goal. Play is the vehicle by which our children learn!
