I know the honours system isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But for this girl who grew up on free school meals & whose mum worked two low paid jobs to keep a roof over our heads, I was so proud to collect an OBE, for services to human rights, today ❤️
There’s an article about Angela Rayner in tomorrow’s papers that’s so disgusting, so misogynistic, so grim that I honestly don’t know why any woman would ever want to be a politician. Massive solidarity to her & to all women in public life that have to put up with this crap.
I am so bloody proud to have worked for this man. If Gordon was PM during a cost of living crisis he wouldn’t be on holiday. He wouldn’t be proudly declaring he directed money from poor areas to rich ones. He’s right, we need an emergency budget now.
Today is the 14th anniversary of the death of Mo Mowlam. An extraordinary politician with strong values and a big heart. A political hero and giant. So wish we had her in Parliament now. What a woman ❤️
Just did my first proper walk since being on oxygen with coronavirus and having pneumonia. Was tough, lots of stops but felt amazing. It’s a beautiful day and I felt much joy from being well enough to walk ❤️
Saudi Arabia executed 37 people today, including Mutjaba al-Sweikat. Mujtaba was arrested at King Fahd International Airport, on his way to begin his studies at Western Michigan University.He was 17 yrs old when arrested. The PM must condemn these brutal executions.
#ripmutjaba
For all those women who text their mates to let them know they got home safe,who wear flat shoes at night so they can run if they need,who have keys in their hands ready to use, it’s not your fault. It never is. So many of us have stories of being assaulted. It’s never our fault.
Urgh. Keir Starmer sends nice tweet about a conservative MP who has sadly died. The replies to his tweet are a total bin fire. Don’t know whether it’s influence of social media, but where has our decency & compassion gone? She was a person with a family.
Been thinking of a scenario when Gordon Brown is PM & Sarah brings his interior designer into the Cabinet Room to sing happy birthday to to him whilst he’s working in the middle of a global pandemic and I just can’t even
I don’t have words for this stupidity. Having just got back from the care home where my dad is spending his final weeks & months, I have nothing but thanks & gratitude to the care workers from all around the world who patiently tend to the most vulnerable
Seriously BBC. Saying that Rishi Sunak’s parents made “great sacrifices” to send him to an elite public school. Yeah & all those parents who don’t send their kids to private school aren’t making sacrifices? My mums sacrifice was working two physical low paid jobs
2020 has been worst & best year of my life. Very ill with Covid in March, struggled with Long Covid since, worst health of my life. But I also met an amazing man this year & on Christmas Eve he asked me to marry him. I am very lucky & grateful to all who helped me this year 💕💕
Every year I remember the glorious Mo Mowlam. Now 16 years since she died. One of my biggest inspirations, I often think how much better politics and the world would be if she was still alive ❤️
My dad died last night. It’s feels so very very sad to have lost both my parents. It’s a club we all join eventually but no one wants to belong to. I hope I get to see them both again in a future life 💔
27 migrants didn’t drown. 27 human beings did. Men, women, maybe even, heartbreakingly children. People like me, you. People who were loved, who loved others. I’m so sorry 💔
The gracious speeches from Richard Parker and Andy Street show politics as it’s best. Whatever your politics it’s clear they are two men who care deeply about the West Mids. Politics should be more like this please 🙏🏼 (compare with Susan Hall’s ungracious speech about Sadiq)
Free school meals playing on my mind & how many people are saying the parents should get a job.I had free school meals & my mum had 2 jobs- one in supermarket and 1 delivering newspapers, but she still needed help. All her 4 kids now giving back to the system.That’s how it works.
Whatever your politics, why should politicians have to put up with this vile abuse? And I think we all know what fuels this particular hatred of
@SadiqKhan
. Solidarity with him
This young woman, Owami Davies, is missing. Police fear she has been kidnapped. This should be all over the news but I’ve hardly seen a peep. Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen her 🙏🏼
Such a lovely night at
@RhonddaBryant
60th birthday party. All the speeches talked about his integrity & kindness & I agree! Chris gave me my first job in Parliament 21 years ago (!) & he was a fantastic boss. Happy birthday to a great man & MP ❤️
At least three of those executed were minors at the time of their alleged offences. This is a flagrant violation of international law, which prohibits sentencing juveniles to death.
If this is true, then frankly it’s tragic. If it’s not true but some over excited adviser has briefed it thinking it’s a clever attack on Ed Miliband, then it’s also frankly tragic. This is the worst of politics
13 years ago today we lost the political giant Mo Mowlam. I remember that first PLP meeting after the summer where the Chair had to read obituaries for her and Robin Cook, who had died two weeks before. We miss politicians like Mo & Robin so much
#giants
Fed up with the constant slagging off of London. Yes, there needs to be greater distribution of wealth across the UK, but people talk about London like the streets are paved with gold. We have some of the worst poverty & inequality in the country.
Nothing demonstrates the gross inequality in this country more than the fact that every child at Eton has had a private COVID test whilst kids in state schools are forced to miss their education as they struggle to get tested.
Salman Qureish was arrested shortly after his 18th birthday, accused of crimes that took place when he was a juvenile. He was denied basic legal rights and sentenced to death in a mass trial, despite repeated interventions on his behalf by the United Nations
The patience & decency
@DavidLammy
shows in his response to the woman saying he can never be English is incredible. I don’t know how he did it & he certainly shouldn’t have to
What a total and utter arsehole this man is. She’s a 92 year old woman who has devoted her life to serving our country and he walks off without any care for how she’s doing.
15 years since we lost the hero that was Mo Mowlam. The most extraordinary of politicians, a woman with an enormous heart & real integrity. I miss her so much. Politics would be a much better place if we still had Mo in it ❤️
Abdulkarim al-Hawaj was charged with participating in demonstrations, incitement via social media and preparing banners with anti-state slogans. He was beaten, tortured with electricity and chained with his hands above his head until he ‘confessed’ to terrorism offences
I just want people to remember that an eight months pregnant Jewish MP was hounded out of the Labour Party. She had death threats, people imprisoned for threats against her & vile abuse every day.
@lucianaberger
is a hero & I stand in awe of her bravery & decency ❤️
@rhodri
Please never forget the shower on the landing of my ex parents in law. Clear glass door. You step straight out into the hallway. I don’t know why
#duvetknowitschristmas
People taking the p*ss out of support bubbles. Fine, but it’s been bloody miserable and lonely on my own for 14 weeks (two extra weeks when was ill) so I am beyond excited about having someone to share life with again
Delighted & overwhelmed to have been honoured with an OBE for services to human rights, in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. None of this work would be possible without the efforts and bravery of human rights defenders around the world ❤️
I honesty don’t know how any decent, kind hearted person with an ounce of compassion doesn’t look at what’s happening to
@lucianaberger
and weep. An 8 month pregnant woman, subject to the most horrific abuse & still people try & excuse it. Grim beyond belief.
This quote from Lara McNeill
‘Jeremy Corbyn ... will be first PM in decades to oppose all forms of oppression and prejudice and to defend all communities in our diverse society’
Utter bollocks.I worked for Gordon Brown for 3 yrs & the idea he didn’t oppose prejudice is insane
So proud to have worked for this man ❤️. I had free school meals & I know how much my mum dreaded school holidays & the extra cost of food.
@MarcusRashford
is a hero for his campaign & so proud
@OfficeGSBrown
is backing it
Virginia’s Governor has just signed a bill to abolish the death penalty, making it the 23rd US state to do so. In the modern era it’s the second highest executor after Texas, so this is a great day for everyone who wants to see the death penalty consigned to history.
People saying Labour shouldn’t allow a Conservative to join them. You do realise that Labour can’t win the general election unless they persuade Conservatives to switch?
People replying to this tweet that just because Harold Shipman was bad doesn’t mean we shouldn’t see Drs are entirely missing the point. What happened with Shipman led to massive reforms to medical practice after his horrific abuse of power. This is what is needed here.
So depressed by Foreign Sec’s answer to
@SophyRidgeSky
when asked about terrible death of George Floyd. Said footage was distressing but so was rioting & violence.Just condemn the murder of black men in US. It’s wrong. Full stop. Don’t qualify it.
Explaining to my Portuguese husband that me watching Sky News on a Saturday night anxiously waiting for the results of the West Mids election is the equivalent of him watching Benfica in the Champions League. He doesn’t seem convinced.

Posted this last year but think worthy of sharing again. Not sleeping arrangements but my ex in laws shower. On the landing. Clear glass door 😳

Last year, Saudi Arabia executed 184 people. 184 people. This includes at least 3 who were children at the time of their arrests. How unbelievably grim that they are hosting the G20 summit this year. They shouldn’t be anywhere near it.
Happy birthday to the wonderful, inspiring, brilliant man that is Neil Kinnock. He’s my hero and my second dad. Here’s us pre lockdown with some other wonderful humans ❤️
Feeling pretty down today. Think the enormity of living on my own like this for another few months has just hit me (coupled with Long bloody Covid which just won’t go away). Please send good TV/film/book (actually anything really) recommendations to cheer me up 🙏🏼❤️
Happy birthday to my old boss
@OfficeGSBrown
- 70 today 🥳🎉. A man of real integrity & decency, it was such an honour to have worked for him. Here’s a throwback photo ♥️
Saudi Arabia executed 37 people in one day – including three arrested as teenagers and tortured into 'confessions'. Call on
@theresa_may
to condemn these executions and call for release of three still at risk
#StopSaudiExecutions
So sad to hear that Glenda Jackson has died. What a beautiful, intelligent & fearsome woman. Not many people have had the career she did with such extraordinary talent on screen & such passion & dedication in Parliament. RIP Glenda 💜
POOR PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED NICE THINGS 🚨.They’re allowed to go on holiday, they’re allowed to buy their kids presents, they’re allowed phones and computers.Otherwise they’re just surviving, not living. What is it with people who think if you’re poor you’re worthy of nothing decent?
Was really missing my mum this morning so thought I’d watch Dirty Dancing, her favourite film, & now I can’t stop crying. Does anyone else just have days where they really really miss loved ones who have died? 💔
This is such a brilliant picture. I think my favourite is
@HarrietHarman
‘s look of utter disdain. I feel like I’ve seen that face a lot over the years 😂
So, I can’t be party political here but I can say that whatever your politics, there is one woman who has shown immense courage, bravery & decency throughout this election campaign, & that’s my beautiful friend
@lucianaberger
- she’s the best of us ❤️
I haven’t got out of bed for days, I can’t stop coughing & breathing is hard, but the people in the flat opposite have put up their Christmas tree & full lights & decorations so I have something joyous to look at ❤️
It’s such an incredibly weird strategy to go after
@DanNeidle
(and calling him creepy is frankly gross). He’s an inspiration to so many of us on here & I hope his many followers will all show their support to him. (I’ve also known him for 25 years and he’s ace)
Dan Neidle AKA Creepy ‘Captain Tax’ spent many years as Head of Tax at Clifford Chance.
For 24 years he advised corporate companies on UK tax avoidance.
He even said he was ‘embarrassed’ about how much he earned from doing so.
Captain Tax or Captain Hypocrite? You decide!
Not ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye watching this. Whatever your politics, seeing Kim sworn into her sister’s seat (now her seat!) is just so moving. The Leadbeater sisters are a huge inspiration
My annual post for
@rhodri
& his brilliant
#duvetknowitschristmas
- this is the shower on the landing of my ex in laws house. Clear glass door. Step straight onto the landing carpet. Very small.
Thank you
@vincecable
for your excellent Urgent Question in parliament today on the horrific executions of 37 people in Saudi Arabia. Thank you for standing up for human rights.
I know listening to others people’s dreams is so boring but last night I dreamt that my dead mum was hugging me & it felt so emotional & amazing to be hugged by her again. & it felt so real. Any dream experts who can interpret what this means? 🙏🏼
Party politics aside, it’s a day of celebration that a main stream political party has just elected a Muslim man to lead it. He’s the first Person of Colour to lead a UK political party. Massive congrats to
@AnasSarwar
🥳
Remember when Estelle Morris resigned because she didn’t think she was up to the job? Politics really does feel like it’s come a very long way in the last 20 years and not in a good way
I love this photo so much. All the women Labour MPs elected in 87 with Neil Kinnock. We owe these women so much. The 104 Labour women MPs we have now wouldn’t have been possible without these trail blazers who I suspect put up with the biggest amount of crap imaginable ❤️
So sad to hear that Shirley Williams has died. Whatever your politics she was a huge figure in post war politics who championed the improvement of comprehensive schools, understanding they were the root out of poverty for so many. Such a sad loss to British politics 🧡
Hussein was executed in Saudi Arabia yesterday. His family weren’t given the chance to say goodbye. Same day Newcastle played Wolves. I really really hope it’s worth it Newcastle.
BREAKING: Hussein Abo al-Kheir was executed in Saudi Arabia yesterday.
Hussein, a Jordanian father of eight, wasn’t given the chance to say goodbye to his family.
Our thoughts are with his family who tirelessly fought for his freedom. Their pain is unfathomable.
I keep thinking about the fact that China has locked up 1.5 million Uighur Muslims in concentration camps where they are ‘re-educated’. And the world says approximately f-all about it. Utterly horrific.
Would love to hear from anyone who is suffering from long term effects of COVID.16 weeks on,if I do anything more than lie in bed I feel terrible.Still struggle with breathing & generally feel awful. Anyone got any tips? Can anyone give me a ray of hope of when this will be over?
Mother’s Day is impossibly hard for those of us who’ve lost our mums. Sending big love to everyone who finds today tough. Be kind to yourself. I’m going for a nice walk on the Heath & will treat myself to some cake ♥️
Got my divorce through today after 11 years of marriage. Feels strange to be starting a new chapter of my life but I feel so lucky to have the support of my wonderful friends & to know that although we aren’t married anymore I remain good friends with my ex ❤️
I really like the Chancellor. He seems like a decent competent guy, but what a total crock of s**t this is. I was very ill with COVID, on my own, for weeks. Friends dropped food off for me but never once did I break the rules. This just shows utter contempt for ordinary people
Absolutely heartbroken that Glenys Kinnock has died. A truly extraordinary politician & campaigner, she cared so much about improving the lives of people in UK & around the world, but most of all a devoted wife, mum & nain. I hope she is at peace 💔
Just got my Covid vaccine! One year to the day I was on oxygen. Felt quite emotional. Thanks to Dr Patel & the soldiers from Woolwich Barracks for giving the vaccine in the splendour of Charlton House. Is there a nicer place to have the vaccine?
So proud of the brilliant
@BellaSankey
calmy explaining the actual rules about claiming asylum and busting much repeated myths. She doesn’t get angry but she explains clearly why what she’s being told is wrong. She’s a fantastic woman
Oh Jack Dromey. I’m so sad. He was such a wonderful man. A feminist, trade unionist & passionate advocate for social justice. And always just so lovely to deal with. Rest in peace Jack and massive love to Harriet. Heart breaking ❤️
Jo and Kim’s mum and dad must be so proud. Also: what an amazing set of parents to fill their daughters with such love, ambition and belief in public service. Imagine if every child had such amazing parents to support them ❤️
Got the results of my COVID antibody test. Strangely relieved to find out I have the antibodies, even though I knew I would. Please please let this mean I’m immune, I definitely couldn’t go through this again & after 11 weeks I’m still coughing & have reduced lung capacity 😩
.
@SayeedaWarsi
is an absolute hero, fighting a battle in her party which looks pretty lonely at the moment. This is why we all owe it to her to show solidarity and support her tireless fight to eliminate Islamophobia.

Haven’t seen my brothers & sisters since January 2020. Today they came to London & met my husband for the first time and we celebrated with 20 Pastéis de Nata
.
@rhodri
I post this every year & I made your top 20 but just so everyone can enjoy- here’s my ex parent in law’s (wonderful people) shower on the landing. Clear glass. Tiny. Totally bonkers. Merry Christmas 🎄
I had COVID. I ended up in hospital several times. I am still struggling with post COVID illnesses, some of which are life changing. Please just wear a mask. It protects you but it also protects others. I would do anything to have never had COVID.
Without being a massive killjoy, here’s a short thread on why I really hope people are sensible tomorrow when the lockdown restrictions ease. From someone who nearly 17 weeks on is still pretty ill (& very miserable because of it)
