100 years later, FIDE is again innovating the game, and they’re doing it on

With a global audience of over 500M, FIDE is building on Avalanche to bring chess to Web3.
My brother is going on a backpacking trip soon, and I think a fun gift would be a ruggedized local LLM terminal that he can carry around.
Has anyone built this?

Really excited to announce our CantBeEvil licenses. NFT contracts can inherit a standardized interface directly in solidity - with only 1 line of code.
1/ Today we’re thrilled to be launching a slate of open sourced “Can’t be Evil” NFT licenses. These licenses are designed specifically for NFTs and were inspired by 20-plus years of work by the Creative Commons.
It was 2018 - I had been in crypto for two years.
I had spent a summer at Consensys, and had dedicated all my time and energy to crypto.
Even still - I was beginning to feel disillusioned with the industry, and almost left to work in medtech.
Then I read “Why Decentralization…
My new book is finally here -- published today in the U.S.! 🟧
I hope you pick it up, share it, debate it with me.
Looking forward to your feedback.
More editions in more languages coming soon.
To accuse another GM of cheating is a grave insult, and some told Wesley he was being a sore loser. Tigran, on the other hand, went ballistic, writing what would become the most famous copypasta in chess history: (10/15)
I'm 32 followers away from 5k. For fun:
I'll pick one of my next 32 followers randomly using the formula ((ethereum blockhash at 5k followers) % 32) + 4968 and give them 15 mins of feedback/advice or a chess lesson or something
I swear we have the most cracked engineering and research teams in the industry.
We are sharing Jolt, our zkVM, with the world today, fully open source.
The coolest part about Jolt is that it comes from an entirely different lineage than other zkVMs, meaning theres a LOT of…
1/ We're excited to share the initial release of Jolt, a new approach to zkVM design. Early benchmarks indicate it outperforms RISC Zero by ~6x and SP1 by up to 2x. Major optimizations are still in the pipeline.
Getting to know
@sreeramkannan
and the EigenLayer team over the past three years has been a pleasure, and I’m so excited to partner with them for the long term.
If you have ever seen Sreeram give a talk, you can tell he has “it” - equal parts magic and momentum.
I can’t tell…
Today, we're announcing that we're leading

It's exceedingly rare to come across a founder with a vision and plan that has the potential to change everything. I have come to know

At this point I came to the realization that instead of users having to find the copypasta and comment it themselves, a bot would be better suited to the task. I wrote a bot that detects if "pipi" or "petrosian" is mentioned, and comments the copypasta - PetrosianBot. (12/15)
For the last 12 months I’ve been working on a book. I’m excited to talk about it for the first time today. 📘

I've been playing around with CouncilKit from

A bunch of gigachads just went and quietly built a next-gen open-source governance framework and SDK:
The best part? This can all be done programmatically from rewards and allocations to claims and payouts (
@cozyfinance
and
@AnteFinance
are good risk pool legos). It’s time to flip the auditing model on its head by utilizing the composability of DeFi to align long-term incentives.
TIL most of the web is secured by NIST curve seeds that were generated by some dude at the NSA named Jerry by hashing random sentences like "Jerry needs a raise". He conveniently forgets the sentence he used.
Suuuure bro, lets just take your word for it!
Yesterday, after an uptick in popularity of the bot, it reached
#2
on the rankings, before a torrent of “bad bot” comments, likely from fans of the other bots it had beaten, brought it back down to
#23
, where it stands now. (14/15)
We are hosting a chess event for NFT NYC on Thursday! Come hang out, play some casual chess, or get serious and compete for prizes 👑

Die-hard chess fans tend to live and breathe chess - and out of this fervor was born a passionate meme culture. The subreddit r/anarchychess leads this effort and remains the go-to spot for all the best chess drama and memes (r/chess is for the more serious folks) (5/15)
A few days later, the organizers banned him for cheating, and disqualified his team. His iconic monologue was quickly adopted by the chess community, and was commented everywhere on reddit. (11/15)
I propose a new funding model - auditors get outsized rewards for underwriting programmatic risk pools on the protocols they audit. Instead of 2-3% returns you would normally get from typical underwriting, they should get 10-20%, funded by the protocol itself.
The community quickly adopted the bot as its own, and over two years it has now received over 171k karma, thousands of awards, and over 5500 “good bot” comments. A website tracks the number of “good bot” and “bad bot” comments, and ranks all 55k bots. (13/15)
The rate at which cool shit is being developed, even amongst this turmoil, has me super optimistic.
Uniswap’s universal router and permit2, Opensea’s seaportP2P, ZK tools, on-chain auction designs, and many more in the past few days alone.
The last winter was not like this.
The popularity of chess has exploded in the past two years, largely thanks to twitch streamers such as
@alexandravbotez
, the Netflix show "The Queen’s Gambit", and the covid-19 lockdown. My chess journey began in 2018, and I quickly became obsessed. (2/15)
With this model, auditors have skin in the game (they will lose $ if the smart contract is hacked). They get incredible returns proportional to the amount they stake on the protocol. And they are incentivized to audit new upgrades and ensure the long-term health of the protocol.
With the newest version of Git 2.37.0, you can run just "git push" to push new branches. No more "--set-upstream origin". Enable with:
git config --global --add --bool push.autoSetupRemote true
27 Sep 2020. It's the finals of the PRO Chess League. The Armenia Eagles have just defeated the Saint Louis Arch Bishops. Tigran, on the Eagles' side, was asked his secret to winning. He replied that he had been drinking gin during the match. (8/15)

Chess meme culture would require a book to explain, but one event in particular changed the course of chess culture forever. First, some background: (6/15)
Wesley So is an American chess grandmaster, who has consistently ranked among the best players in the world. Tigran Petrosian is an Armenian chess grandmaster, who is strong in his own right, and is among the top 50 players in the world. (7/15)

Wesley, of the Arch Bishops, felt that Tigran was punching above his weight and acting suspiciously, frequently looking down at what could have been an off-screen cheating device. He not-so-subtly hinted in a forum that Tigran was cheating. (9/15)

There has never been a better time to build in web3. Excited to continue investing in the best founders and builders working on the hardest problems in the space through our new Crypto Fund 4! LFG
Today, we’re excited to announce Crypto Fund 4. We believe we’re now entering the golden era of web3, a time when the legendary teams come together to build the most important tech/products. As

Chess is a game of perfect information - the pieces are all on the board, and their rules are set in stone and largely unchanged for 500 years. This means, however, that positions can have objective valuations, where one side is clearly “better” or “worse”. (3/15)
Announcing the Attestation Fellowship! 🎉
It's a 6-week builder program taking promising attestation founders from idea stage to demo day in front of leading ecosystem partners.
Apply to the inaugural batch!
Here's a story about a project I really enjoyed building.
A few months ago I had an idea: what if there was an NFT collection that can't be bought with money, but needs to be earned with skill and dedication?
↓
Computers have become better at chess than humans ever will, because they have an easier time foreseeing all possible branches from positions, and picking the next move that will lead to a better chance of winning. (4/15)
The FWB community is a really special place. From participating in the hackathon to AMAs and local meetups, I've never seen a group so aligned, friendly, and trustworthy. Thankful for the opportunity to work with

and many others
Auditors can choose how much they want to underwrite. This is a signal to the rest of the community indicating the strength of their conviction. Similarly, auditors can withdraw their principal at any time, which could be seen as a negative signal.
