3 years ago,
@Achariam
and I began building
@ClayHQ
: a beautiful, private home for the people & relationships in your life.
This week we announced our $8 million fundraise from
@ForerunnerVC
,
@GeneralCatalyst
, & an amazing list of angels (more on that later)
A few thoughts π§΅ππ½
We designed & built the first version of Clay ourselves, inspired by products we loved as users:
Mailbox.
Sparrow.
Sunrise.
Path.
Products you could tell were made by people who cared
and made you *feel* something
and maniacally focused on the ββββββββ details.
What you don't realize about those products is the amount of time, effort, and care that went into them. How much iteration it took.
Honestly, sometimes it feels like a lot of tech has lost that magic. The fun. The pride of building something eminently beautiful and functional.
A lot of people glorify product work. Few people actually do it. And imposter syndrome is very real.
In the early days, we'd whiplash from a Clay member cancelling their subscription to hearing someone say Clay was the best product they've ever used.
We invited new testers. Things broke. We hired a small team of people much smarter than us.
Tens of millions of contacts and people in Clay. Tens of thousands of individual pieces of feedback.
Together, we've built the beginning of something magical.
And we have a brand new marketing site that I genuinely believe is one of the most beautiful software sites I've ever seen.
Our team does amazing work.
Plus a stunning identity from the insanely talented
@saturday
:
We've got such a long way to go, and a few more exciting announcements you'll see over the next few months.
But before we get back to work, we realize we owe the biggest thanks to the Clay community. We wouldn't be here without your support.
And if you're interested in learning more, we're hiring for...everything:
* Senior backend engineer
* Fullstack engineer
* iOS engineer (I think we're the most complex production Swift UI app?)
* Growth
* Writing and editorial
