I’m honoured to have been awarded the Holyoake Lecture Medal by Humanists UK after delivering this year’s lecture on evidence-based environmentalism. The lecture & medal are named after the progressive 19th century editor George Jacob Holyoake, who coined the word ‘secularism’.

In 1974, due to the oil crisis, French PM Pierre Messmer instigated a plan to build nuclear power plants en masse. There was a saying: “In France, we do not have oil, but we do have ideas.” An idea: treat nuclear power plants as national monuments: protect them & build more.
