Asking politely for people to acknowledge the contradiction or implicit assumptions behind “COVID is only risky for vulnerable populations” and “mask wearers are just doing so out of anxiety”
maybe… maybe they’re in those “vulnerable populations” & still need to go out?
flashback to that argument I used to make about the presumed absence of disabled and chronically ill people from public spaces, at the time specific to universities but clearly obviously just all of them
I fucking hate wearing a mask but I also hate long term forced bed rest and the possibility of passing massive vascular and inflammatory system disease onto my unborn child and I hate both of those things about as much as I hate especially English approaches to COVID
Meanwhile “wah wah you can’t make people disclose their health status!” EXCEPT BY FORCING SOME OF US TO KEEP MASKING UP because you don’t want to
it’s a trash analogy but the one that comes to mind is the exceptionalism inherent in laptop ban/exemption if disabled policies

Yes. Or maybe they live with someone who is vulnerable and do not want to Bring Covid Home.
Or maybe they don’t want to give Covid they wouldn’t yet know they had to anyone who can’t Bring Covid Home.
Or maybe they’ve looked at long Covid and said “Y’know what? No thanks.”
