One of the impacts of facilitating space for community curating, is upskilling that leads to employment for those who chose that path. Nelson Cummins, Curator of the Legacy of Empire at Glasgow Museums talks Intervention/activism in museums. Free event 👇🏽

You don’t need to have a reason to come to

to spend time & keep warm – just come in, make yourself comfortable & let staff know if you need any help.
We may not be able to meet all your needs but here’s what we can offer:
Lessons from the past!
The first recorded 'race riot' Started in Glasgow on this day in 1919. Silence on racism allows people to be pitched against each other without challenging the engine that drives the oppression. 👇🏾
It's great to see the City of Edinburgh acknowledging culpability for its complicity in racial slavery.
The sad death of
#GeorgeFloyd
made people wake up. Many people deserve credit for pushing our history forward in Edinburgh. 🧵
The problem is looking at EDI as a separate strategy when it should be embedded and not an add on. EDI is everyone’s responsibility. From the top down and bottom up. It’s not a project with a beginning/middle/end and should not be approached that way.
Just seen a job for £26k whose responsibility is to write and implement a strategy for inclusion and diversity for an entire museum and all its functions as part of an NLHF project. And we wonder why we don’t make progress in these areas of practice. 🤬🥲
We've released a new report about the links between some of our historically important sites & the British Empire. Nearly 38% have a connection. Some had an important function within the empire; others were owned by people involved with the empire.

Get your ticket for Tue, 23 November 17:30 – 19:00 and attend the Book Launch for Andrew Mackillop's "Human Capital and Empire: Scotland, Ireland, Wales and British Imperialism in Asia, c.1690-c.1820" congratulations

Scotland needs an anti-racist Programme for Government.
CRER is urging Scottish Government to put race equality at the heart of its forthcoming Programme for Government. We've written to Scottish Ministers, setting out five priority areas for action.
Mullen's work highlights the importance of independence of research. Public can make an informed decision on Glasgows built heritage beyond the 'headlines' Household survey already showing support for more education of slavery themes
Facing uncomfortable truths is a reminder that the legacy of this vile trade is the false notion of 'race' that continues to perpetuate 'racialized' hierarchy today.

This was a protest in 2013 Gov knew then that people would continue to be forced into fuel poverty and that it would get worse. Poverty is man made and greed is the foundation.

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. Being 'impartial' is just a smokescreen. Facist behaviour and language must be called out!
"It's patently clear that some of the people who're involved in current politics…are borrowing some of the tactics of the 1920s and 1930s."
