It’s with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of team founder and family patriarch Glen Wood this morning. We want to thank family, friends, our small-town Virginia community of Patrick County, as well as everyone in the NASCAR community for their unwavering support.
Here’s one you weren’t expecting:
Paul is stepping away from full time competition at the end of the season and
@mattdracing
will be taking over our
@MenardsRacing
@MQL_Racing
Mustang, starting in 2020.
Surprised eh?

We want to thank everyone for their messages of concern and support. As was mentioned yesterday, our Pa (Glenn Wood) isn’t in the best of health at present. He’s at home resting and we again just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. It means the world to us! 🤝🙏
EIGHT THOUSAND LIKES. EIGHT..... THOUSAND..... last time we had EIGHT THOUSAND likes for a post was never. Granted, we had upwards of EIGHT THOUSAND messages/tweets/DMs/replies saying ‘keep matt’ but this is different because it’s EIGHT THOUSAND at once. EIGHT THOUSAND

Unbelievably sad day today after hearing of the passing of (one of) THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST
#nascar
drivers. We wouldn’t be here today without him and we’re thinking of the entire David Pearson family tonight.
Well the bad news. We let you down. The good news is, you didn’t let us down. This is just impossible to believe. Thank you thank thank you. We’ll get there. 👍🏼
not a single bad thing to say about what just happened. they force us to race this way by having the final reg season race at a plate track. Matt did all he could and didnt give an inch getting blocked for the lead. proud of his effort. (we got bad damage)
We often times are told how incredible it is that our family all gets along. We owe the credit to family matriarch Bernece Wood so it’s with profound sadness that we had to say goodbye to her today. These things are never easy and we all experience grief, but it’s still hard.
Just gonna throw this out there and then call it a day. Nobody hates this worse than we do. We were on the receiving end last weekend and it sucked just as bad. Paul races cleaner than anybody and we sure hate to have been all up in this one. Real sorry it ended this way
Probably should go ahead and issue our statement of regret for letting emotions run high and getting a touch mouthy over ‘the call’
Official Statement:
We state our regret
Quick update on team co-owner Eddie Wood. He had a tiny little thing done called open heart surgery yesterday. It was a planned deal to repair a prolapsed mitral valve. He’s gonna shoot me for mentioning it, but he’s doing fine rn & we wanted to pass it along
So absolutely proud of this bunch. Trying to come up with all the right words. Great call to catch that caution, just a super good night and couldn’t be prouder of the race Matt drove. We came up short OF A WIN. So all in all, a good night
Doing a little picture taking and video making up here at Wood Bros North. This is Gen 1 thru Gen 6. There’s 1 team that’s fielded the same number in every one. We might’ve felt like 🤡🤡 at some points but we made it work.
September is a big month for
@NASCAR
. It’s also
#SuicidePreventionMonth
. Everyone has been touched by mental illness and there’s no reason we can’t talk about it. We’ll be running this scheme for the Vegas race.

the good news is Harrison's ok. nothing at all he could've done about that. brad was just trying to push and we all got a little aggressive. really hate it but glad he's ok.
One final shout out. Paul Menard gets the credit for coming in and helping build this team. It has only gotten better and better as time has gone on and there’s no way we’d be in this position to be excited about this season if not for him and what he’s done for us.
hey. solid day. wasn't meant to be but you cant get bent over how that one shook out. really proud of Matt and this entire bunch. really fun one to watch. P6
For our
@TooToughToTame
#Throwback
we will rewind back to when Harrison was minus 8 days old when papa
@JeffBurton
last ran these colors in the great state of Martinsville. The year was 2000 and we had all barely survived Y2K. Close one. A neat
@deximaging
scheme fosho
Wood Brothers Racing has purchased the remaining interests in GGRWB, LLC, holder of NASCAR Charter the No. 21 Mustang has used since 2017. We look forward to 2021 and want to thank Archie for being such a great partner.
One of the original Wood Brothers, Ray Lee Wood passed away overnight. Brother to Leonard and the late team founder Glenn Wood, Ray helped shape our team to become what it is today. We’re all in trying times but please remember his sister Crystal and the rest of our family.
2 points to make.
1. Happy Newman is seemingly bouncing back to normal
B. We finished 19th, only 2 laps down with this very wrecked and very damaged and very barely rolling Mustang
3.
@mattdracing
is a blast to work with and did a great job for us
D. We somehow finished 19th
probably best for the safety of the drivers and fans and everyone at home that we just go ahead and call this one complete. we dont need anyone getting hurt or killed. or worse.
It’s not enough that Leonard can build some amazing things, he has to test drive them too. This is a mini-replica of my
@MartinsvilleSwy
race winning truck. The body was a scale carbon fiber wind tunnel body used by
@FordPerformance
. He’s 84 by the way.
Just not gonna be the same without this guy. He had such a unique and special history with Daytona that absolutely nobody will ever come close to attaining (71 consecutive Speedweeks). The coolest part though is he wouldn’t tell you about it unless you asked.
Waited until we knew fosho we didn’t have any issues with the crash repair. We’ll start 8th on Sunday and not need a backup or drop to the tail at the start. 👍🏼
One last thank-you and send off to this guy. We’ve been blessed these last few years and hate to see him go. That said, we’re excited to start our next chapter in
#nascar
racing. We have a few, that’s for sure. (The most in the sport, but who’s counting)
Matt DiBenedetto was going to win that race or bring back a pile of pieces. I’m convinced. We just cannot help 800 caution laps past the regular distance. No way to have predicted this
We see the Darlington throwback weekend a little differently. For us, we’ve got endless schemes to pick from. It’s more about honoring the driver and not a rainbow, so for that reason, we chose Cale Yarborough’s 50th anniversary win scheme for this year’s Southern 500!
how did we finish 444444th./???? wow. I know how but still. This one was a hard fought day. had good stops, we made our Dickies Mustang faster, NOW GO BUY THE DIECAST SO IT GETS MADE !!! lol
ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY UNREAL... Matt D is absolutely unreal. he restarted 20th. 4 wide and 2 laps later is running 10th. P8 right now but that was the most impressive driving that none of us have ever seen (they didnt show it lol).
**PLEASE READ**
We’re trying to buy up a bunch of tablets so our local nursing home residents are able to video-visit with their families. Read the attached note and the link to help/buy a signed thank-you from Matt & us is below.
This is unrelated to anything, but pretty amazing. We’ve mentioned before that Leonard was in the Army during the early racing years and sent my grandpa (Glen) setup info in letters. This was I’m guessing for the
@DISupdates
500. So much random history here.
Wishing a very happy birthday to superstar Leonard Wood. 270 years among these three siblings. It’s cause they eat green beans and healthy stuff. Example: spam, canned pork and beans, Lance crackers and the like
Loss for words. Just a total loss for words here. Had a 7th/6th going there until that at the end. Not taking the blame and not placing it either. We had a killer points day til that though. MAN
Exactly 61 years ago today, Leonard was drafted into the Army. He would write down ‘setups’ (if you call it that) and mail them back to brother Glenn. And here we are 61 years later.
I mean rules is rules. Like getting nailed for running 67mph down the interstate. They didn’t catch us running 100 a mile before, so whatever. Y’all don’t care about the money, points don’t matter, so we can just pretend he finished 2nd and call it a day.
Out of the hospital and seemingly back to normal. As normal as you can be when you’re held together with wires and stuff. Thanks for all the well wishes and nice words over the past week.
P11 for the day. Really proud of these guys. Matt drove a great race, Matt made good calls, Matt did a great job spotting, Matt did a great job changing his tires and he did a good job back at the shop. really proud of all these guys and the effort!
Really sad to hear about the passing of Sam Bass. He was so much more than ‘just’ an artist. He made art that helped make the sport and he will be missed by so many.
Paul’s helmet for Speedweeks. It’s got the storied beech tree Glenn and Leonard originally worked under. You can see the engine hanging from a branch. (Bottom right)
That was an unreal string of laps Matt put together. Just can’t believe how he drove from 20th to 3rd in like 10 laps. Totally unreal. Pucker up time on the points situation. That’s gonna make it increasingly hard to make the playoffs but one thing at a time.
Also we ended up 5th, not 6th. So... first top 5 of the season and Matt’s 2nd top 5 consecutive talladega finish. (Yep, went there. Still salty over the last trip here)
Not something you see everyday. Lining up for the Stuart parade. That’s Leonard driving if you can’t tell. (Leonard being the badass) ((and the Backseater too I guess) 🚗🏎🚛
Jeff Gluck asking how this stayed quiet.
we were just trying to make sure that today was the day to talk about it so once it got finalized we just didn't talk about it. it was fun keeping it quiet and fortunately it stayed that way.
You know you’re a tough dog to keep under the porch when you’re the only (well plus me anyway but I’m a schmuck) one on the plane to go to vEgAs! Leonard Wood don’t play no games.
I think a lot of people underestimate just how hard it is to run top 20 in a cup car. you can dominate in other series, and hopping to cup is a humbling experience. this isnt directed at anybody in particular, just a statement in general. cup racing is hard
insane. an absolutely insane drive from like near Ohio on that restart to finish 5th. we had some bad ones today but the last one is the one that counted. congrats to Blaney too.
Little bit of old mixed with a little bit of new. We couldn’t get crazy, but we did have to make a few tweaks.
Here’s our 2022
@MQL_Racing
Mustang.
@HBurtonRacing
you ready?
Jordan bianchi asking if Matt was the first choice. We asked Paul who to get. Paul said Matt. so he was the obvious and only choice. most things drag on forever but this one fell together super quick
Only comment we’ve really got on this whole single lug thing, it’s not the end of the world. There’s a video NASCAR did showing a pit stop with the lug and how the mechanics of the stop really don’t change much.
13th to close out the day. man we really came alive at the end. we did get fast so thats important moving forward. shame we missed it the first portion of the race but a 13th on a bad day aint that bad
